This study aims to analyze Saudi demand for natural honey imported from Yemen, Pakistan, Australia, Argentina, Mexico, and Germany, which contribute around 73.7% of the value of natural honey imports during the period of study (1991–2017). Marshallian elasticities estimation using AIDS model shows all own-price elasticities were negative and significant except for own-price elasticity associated with demand for natural honey imported from Pakistan. Natural honey imported from Yemen has ownprice inelastic demand. In addition, the results of cross-price elasticities show a relationship between different products of imported natural honey and the estimated values of expenditure elasticities. According to these study results, it is important to encourage the domestic production of honey to meet the increase in the demand of the natural honey. The future studies could examine whether the domestic natural honey might be close substitute of any of these imported natural honey. In addition, we recommend increasing sources of import natural honey, especially if a country might be closer substitute for others.

چکیده فارسی:

هدف این تحقیق، تحلیل تفاضا در کشور عربستان سعودی برای عسل طبیعی وارداتی از یمن، پاکستان، استرالیا، آرژانتین، مکزیک و آلمان می باشد که حدود 73.7% از واردات عسل طبیعی را در دوره تحقیق (1991 تا 2017) به خود اختصاص داده است. تخمین انعطاف پذیری مارشال با استفاده از مدل ΑIDS نشان می دهد که تمام انعطاف پذیری های قیمت به جر برای انعطاف پذیری قیمت داخلی از نظر آماری منفی و قابل توجه می باشد و تنها استثنای موجود مربوط به تقاضا برای عسل طبیعی وارداتی از پاکستان است. عسل طبیعی وارداتی از یمن دارای تقاضای انعطاف پذیری قیمت می باشد. به علاوه، نتایج بدست آمده از تخمین انعطاف پذیری ها نشان دهنده رابطه بین محصولات مختلف عسل طبیعی و ارزش تخمین شده انعطاف پذیری هزینه ها می باشد. با توجه به این نتایج، تشویق تولید داخلی عسل برای تامین نیازهای روزافزون عسل طبیعی ضروری می باشد. تحقیقات آینده می توانند بررسی کنند که آیا عسل طبیعی خانگی می تواند جایگزین عسل های طبیعی تولید شده دیگر باشد. به علاوه، ما پیشنهاد می کنیم که منابع واردات عسل طبیعی را افزایش دهیم (بخصوص اگر کشور جایگزینی برای سایر محصولات عسل باشد).
