Geocell geosynthetics have been used in several areas of geotechnical engineering, such as retaining walls, slope protection against erosion, road bases and channel lining. However, geocell was initially designed to improve soil bearing capacity. Performing works in soft soils is always a challenge to geotechnical engineering and involves risks, such as (global and local) soil failures and large settlements. As reinforcement, geocell satisfactorily increases the bearing capacity of the soil, enabling its use. In this regard, this paper presents a method for predicting the bearing capacity of geocell-reinforced soils, taking into account the soil foundation bearing capacity and the geocell reinforcement mechanisms – the stress dispersion effect and the confinement effect. The proposed method is verified with the results of laboratory experiments by several researchers and compared with other calculation methods. The results show that the calculated bearing capacity obtained by this method give a better fit to the experimental results than other methods. The method also proved to be a good approach for different geocell characteristics (geometry), foundation soil and geocell infill (sand and clay) and loading shape (circular, rectangular and strip).

چکیده فارسی:

ژئوسنتتیک های سلولی (ژئوسل) در بسیاری از زمینه‌های مهندسی ژئوتکنیک مانند دیوارهای حایل، حفاظت از شیب در برابر فرسایش، بسترهای جاده و پوشش کانال مورد استفاده قرار گرفته‌اند. با این حال، ژئوسل در ابتدا برای بهبود ظرفیت باربری خاک طراحی شد. انجام کار در خاک‌های نرم همیشه یک چالش برای مهندسی ژئوتکنیک بوده است و شامل خطراتی مانند گسیختگی خاک (‏کلی و موضعی)‏ و نشست¬های بزرگ است. ژئوسل به عنوان تقویت کننده به طور رضایت‌بخشی ظرفیت باربری خاک را افزایش می‌دهد و استفاده از آن را ممکن می‌سازد. در این راستا، این مقاله روشی را برای پیش‌بینی ظرفیت باربری خاک‌های مسلح شده با ژئوسل، با در نظر گرفتن ظرفیت باربری بستر خاک و مکانیزم‌های باربری ژئوسل-اثر پراکندگی تنش و اثر محصورسازی- ارائه می‌دهد. روش پیشنهادی با نتایج آزمایش‌های آزمایشگاهی توسط چندین محقق تأیید شده و با دیگر روش‌های محاسبه مقایسه شده‌است. همچنین ثابت شد که این روش، روش خوبی برای مشخصات مختلف ژئوسل (‏هندسه)‏، بستر خاک و خاک پرکننده ژئوسل (‏ماسه و رس) ‏و شکل بارگذاری (‏دایره‌ای، مستطیلی و نواری)‏ می‌باشد.
