1 A new circular business model typology for creating value from agro-waste
نوع جدید مدل کسب و کار دایره ای برای ایجاد ارزش از زباله های کشاورزی-2020
Shifting from a linear to a circular economy in the agrifood domain requires innovative business models, including reverse logistics, new visions on customer-supplier relationships, and new forms of organization and marketing strategies at the crossroads of various value chains. This research aims to identify and characterise different types of business models that create value from agricultural waste and by-products via cascading or closing loops. Conceptual and management insights into circular business models are still sparse. In total, 39 cases have been studied that convert agro-waste and by-products into valuable products via a circular economy approach. Semi-structured interviews and on-site visits of six representative cases have been done, and secondary data been collected. Data has been treated with content analysis. Cases are presented according to the type of organisational structure, resources, transformation processes, value propositions, key partners, customers, strategic approaches and innovation. Six types of circular business models are identified and discussed: biogas plant, upcycling entrepreneurship, environmental biorefinery, agricultural cooperative, agropark and support structure. They differ in their way of value creation and organisational form, but strongly depend on partnerships and their capacity to respond to changing external conditions. This study offers the first circular business model typology within the agricultural domain, revealing the interconnectedness of the six different business model types. It provides options for managers in positioning and adapting their business strategies. It highlights the potential of using biomass first for higher added-value products before exploiting it as energy source. Cascading biomass valorisation at a territorial level will increasingly be important for locally cooperating actors within a circular bioeconomy approach.

3 Systemic building blocks for creating and capturing value from circular economy
بلوک های ساختاری سیستماتیک برای ایجاد و گرفتن ارزش از اقتصاد دایره ای-2020
The idea of a circular economy has generated widespread academic, policy and business interest for its potential to address economic, ecological and societal concerns posed by current production and consumption systems. The growth in the number of academic publications reflects a period of critique, clarification and validation leading to research challenges, questions and a call for real world evidence of how the ideas translate into practice, evidence of outcomes and operational effectiveness. Whilst there has been extensive research into the classifications of circular business models, these are rarely linked to a discussion of actual circular value realisation within real world settings. In this paper we draw on three illustrative examples used within a global executive education programmer to reflect on the locus of circular value creation and capture. Specifically, we explore the role and interplay of four configurable ‘building blocks’: circular design, business models, reverse network management and system enablers, as a potentially useful heuristic to describe how businesses are realising value from their circular economy practices. These cases illustrate that the success of large scale value creation and capture derives from the iteration of multiple, boundary spanning activities emerging over time in varying configurations. There is now a need to move from classification and description to quantification and testing of how value is created and captured from circular economy in different contexts. Circular economy validation requires rapid growth in building a credible research evidence base of successful case examples.

4 Circular business models: Current aspects that influence implementation and unaddressed subjects
مدل های تجاری دایره ای: جنبه های فعلی که بر پیاده سازی و موضوعات بدون آدرس تأثیر می گذارد-2020
Natural resources are limited and society has long been unwisely consuming them, while Earth has been longing for care. Most existing businesses are based on linear models and a transition to Circular Business Models is necessary. Circular Business Models are business models that enable systems that are regen- erative by nature; they seek maintaining resource value at its maximum for as long as feasible, and eliminating or reducing resource leakage, by closing, slowing, or narrowing resource flows. For a transition to circular business models to happen, researchers and practitioners need to know how to implement and manage them. Therefore, this paper’s aim is threefold: (i) identify researchers, topics of highlight and journals housing research on Circular Business Models worldwide, (ii) identify the main aspects that influence Circular Business Model implementation, and (iii) point the unaddressed subjects in the existing literature on Circular Business Models. To that end, a systematic literature review was conducted. The EndNote, Microsoft Power BI, and the VOS viewer software tools were used to manage references and build visual maps, respectively. Resource flow management, considerations on surpluses, system orientation, challenges to circular business models, system design aspects, influence of company size, possible rebound effects, customer consideration, company’s culture and behavior, and capacity building for CE have been the main aspects of current concern on circular business model investigation. The importance of increasing circularity through circular business models is mainly addressed through the importance of top management support and its action from the company’s core to the outside. Further investigations and partnerships from theoreticians and practitioners are expected to assist the evolution of the theme.© 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

5 Tokenizing coopetition in a blockchain for a transition to circular economy
ایجاد رقابت در یک بلاکچین برای انتقال به اقتصاد مدور-2019
The circular economy offers a way for businesses to conceptualize sustainable economic activity with a concern for environmental and societal well-being. Putting this concept into practice is a complex undertaking, given the current production and consumption systems, and necessitates strategies that enable competition and cooperation between various actors to generate and scale up the best ideas. Simultaneous competition and cooperation, or coopetition, is studied in strategy literature within the context of managing the complexity of business networks. Coopetition could offer valuable perspectives for firms transitioning to circular models. The purpose of this paper is to show how coopetition could be operationalized and optimized using tokens in a blockchain to support a transition to circular models of value creation and appropriation. The findings of our study indicate that tokens could enable previously disconnected product ecosystems to converge and unleash the waves of creativity and innovation required for circular business models. However, facilitating such convergence would require the coopetition models to transition from comprising the current stages of value creation and appropriation to being based on value creation and circulation.

6 Lifecycle Management of Product-service Systems: A Preliminary Investigation of a White Goods Manufacturer
مدیریت چرخه سیستم های خدمات محصولات: یک بررسی مقدماتی تولید کننده محصولات سفید-2017
Product-Service Systems (PSS) have been discussed as promising business strategies towards a circular economy (CE). However, PSS solutions are not necessarily more sustainable. PSS lifecycle management may play an important role to improve the offering and achieve sustainability benefits. Nevertheless, bottom-up issues for CE implementation in the industry such as lifecycle management are still little discussed in the literature. In this sense, this paper aims to explore a PSS business strategy adopted by a large white goods manufacturer that transitioned from a linear to a circular business, and the practices applied throughout the entire lifecycle that may be valuable to achieve CE requirements. A case-based approach was employed in this study and multiple sources of evidence were considered. Data were analyzed in the light of the literature, considering an inductive approach. The main preliminary findings suggest that resources consumption reduction and cost savings can be obtained through lifecycle management practices that take into consideration CE issues since the beginning of life of the PSS offering. Design practices, the adoption of different strategies at the end of life (reuse/remanufacturing or recycle), and the implementation of cleaner production practices are some of the identified practices that can contribute to achieve resource efficiency and CE requirements. This is a work in progress and further work is going to focus on a quantitative analysis of the environmental and economic performance of this PSS. In addition, as this study focused on a use-oriented PSS, future research may compare lifecycle management practices adopted by other and distinct PSS categories, and how different lifecycle management practices may contribute to achieving resource efficiency.
