1 Exploring learning processes associated with a cancer pain self-management intervention in patients and family caregivers: A mixed methods study

Aim: Explore learning processes associated with a psychoeducational pain selfmanagement intervention. Background: Self-management of cancer pain is challenging for patients and their family caregivers (FCs). While psychoeducational interventions can support them to handle these tasks, it remains unclear how learning pro- cesses are hampered or facilitated. Methods: A convergent parallel mixed methods design with qualitative data collection embedded in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) was used. Outpatients with cancer and FCs were recruited from three Swiss university hospitals. The six-week intervention consisted of education, skills building, and nurse coaching. Quantitative data on pain management knowledge and self-efficacy were analyzed using multilevel models. Patients and FCs were interviewed post-RCT regarding their learning experiences. Qualitative data analysis was guided by interpretive description. Finally, quantitative and qualitative data were integrated using case level comparisons and a meta-matrix. Results: Twenty-one patients and seven FCs completed this study. The group-by-time effect showed increases in knowledge (p = 0.035) and self-efficacy (p = 0.007). Patients and FCs learning through experience was sup- ported by an intervention nurse, who was perceived as competent and trustworthy. After the study, most intervention group participants felt more confident to implement pain self-management. Finally, data integration showed that declining health hampered some patients pain self-management. Conclusions: Competent and trustworthy nurses can support patients and FCs pain self-management by providing individualized interventions. Using a diary, jointly reflecting on the documented experiences, and addressing knowledge deficits and misconceptions through the use of academic detailing can facilitate patients and FCs learning of critical skills.

2 New kid on the block: An investigation of the physical, operational, personnel, and service characteristics of recovery community centers in the United States

Background: Professional treatment and non-professional mutual-help organizations (MHOs) play important roles in mitigating addiction relapse risk. More recently, a third tier of recovery support services has emerged that are neither treatment nor MHO that encompass an all-inclusive flexible approach combining professionals and volunteers. The most prominent of these is Recovery Community Centers (RCCs). RCCs goal is to provide an attractive central recovery hub facilitating the accrual of recovery capital by providing a variety of services (e.g., recovery coaching; medication assisted treatment [MAT] support, employment/educational linkages). Despite their growth, little is known formally about their structure and function. Greater knowledge would inform the field about their potential clinical and public health utility. Method: On-site visits (2015–2016) to RCCs across the northeastern U.S. (K = 32) with semi-structured interviews conducted with RCC directors and online surveys with staff assessing RCCs: physicality and locality; operations and budgets; leadership and staffing; membership; and services. Results: Physicality and locality: RCCs were mostly in urban/suburban locations (90%) with very good to excellent Walk Scores reflecting easy accessibility. Ratings of environmental quality indicated neighborhood/ grounds/buildings were moderate-good attractiveness and quality. Operations: RCCs had been operating for an average of 8.5 years (SD = 6.2; range 1–33 years) with budgets (mostly state-funded) ranging from $17,000–$760,000/year, serving anywhere from a dozen to more than two thousand visitors/month. Leadership and staffing: Center directors were mostly female (55%) with primary drug histories of alcohol (62%), cocaine (19%), or opioids (19%). Most, but not all, directors (90%) and staff (84%) were in recovery. Membership: A large proportion of RCC visitors were male (61%), White (72%), unemployed (50%), criminal-justice system-involved (43%) and reported opioids (35%) or alcohol (33%) as their primary substance. Roughly half were in their first year of recovery (49%), but about 20% had five or more years. Services: RCCs reported a range of services including social/recreational (100%), mutual-help (91%), recovery coaching (77%), and employment (83%) and education (63%) assistance. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) support (43%) and overdose reversal training (57%) were less frequently offered, despite being rated as highly important by staff. Conclusions: RCCs are easily accessible, attractive, mostly state-funded, recovery support hubs providing an array of services to individuals in various recovery stages. They appear to play a valued role in facilitating the accrual of social, employment, housing, and other recovery capital. Research is needed to understand the relative lack of opioid-specific support and to determine their broader impact in initiating and sustaining remission and cost-effectiveness.

3 Establishing competitive intelligence process elements in sport performance analysis and coaching: A comparative systematic literature review

Sport performance analysts and coaches collect and convert competitor and environmental information for strategic decision making. However, existing studies do not provide a systematic approach for this managerial process. Within the business domain, competitive intelligence (CI) is a proven systematic process, which is applied to enhance organizations’ competitiveness through the systematic collection, conversion and countering of information. Therefore, the objective of this comparative systematic literature review (SLR) was to establish similarities between the business CI elements and sport performance analysis (PA). The review was conducted from the functionalist quadrant, to provide rational explanations where mechanical analogies from the business CI domain were used for modelling and understanding the particular phenomenon of the CI process in sport. A systematic review protocol was established, and a total of 61 articles from the CI (34) and PA (27) domains were included. The SLR revealed substantial similarities of the current sport PA elements to the business CI process. The similarities were used to develop an information management process, which is illustrated as a literature CI model for sport coaches. Specific differences between the two domains indicated that empirical research is needed to fill the gaps of sport CI elements description.

4 Developing management effectiveness: The nexus between teaching and coaching

As a contribution to the evolving debate about the future of business schools, we explore the complementary value of teaching and coaching in executive education to offer a more holistic individualised learning experience. Beginning in each case with teaching, some enriching differences are: focus on knowing at a macro-level versus doing at a micro-level; pre-determined context-free knowledge versus self-determined context-specific knowledge; impersonal access to many subject experts versus personal access to one process professional; directively taking people out of themselves versus nondirectively taking people into themselves; critical feedback centred on normative reference points versus supportive feedback centred on personalised, formative reference points. The differences reveal limitations in each approach that the other can address. We propose that the greatest benefit for adult learning and management performance can be found at the nexus of the two approaches, when teachers and coaches integrate the qualities of both approaches. This entails not just appreciating some value in the other, but actually incorporating insights and methods from the other approach into their practice.

6 Perceived leader behavioral integrity and employee voice in SMEs travel agents: The mediating role of empowering leader behaviors

This paper investigates how perceived leader behavioral integrity and empowering leader behaviors stimulate employee voice at SMEs travel agents in Egypt. Data were collected from 500 frontline employees. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS–SEM) was employed to test the hypotheses. The findings confirmed that perceived leader behavioral integrity significantly impacted empowering leader behaviors and employee voice. Empowering leader behaviors positively influenced employee voice. Moreover, the results showed that empowering leader behaviors mediated the relationship between perceived leader behavioral integrity and employee voice. Finally, there were no differences between family and non-family businesses in most of the relationships studied.

7 Focusing on teacher–student interactions eliminates the negative impact of students’ disruptive behavior on teacher perceptions

This study tests the impact of a randomly assigned professional development coaching intervention (MyTeachingPartner-Secondary; MTP-S) on teacher projections of their students’ educational attainment. Results indicate that students who report more behavior problems in the Fall of the academic year are projected by teachers to have lower future educational attainment in the Spring of the academic year. However, analyses further indicate that participation in the MTP-S intervention moderates the association between Fall student behavior problems and teachers’ Spring projections for student attainment, such that this link is not significant for students in classrooms where the teacher is participating in MTP-S. In fact, results indicate that teachers who participate in the intervention project better educational attainment for their students than teachers who are in a business-as-usual control condition, regardless of their students’ behavior. Findings are discussed in terms of the role that interventions targeting classroom interactions may play in altering teachers’ internal view of students, thus ultimately promoting adolescent development.

در عصر صنعتی که خیلی وقت پیش، بشریت با ظهور ماشین‌های بخار وارد آن شده است، مکانیزاسیون ابتدایی در تولید ایجاد شده است. امروزه با توسعه‌ی اینترنت و تکنولوژی‌های موبایل، الکترونیک، تکنولوژی نانو، پیشرفت در علم پزشکی، بهداشت و کاربردهای دیجیتال و ...، تحقیقات مکاترونیک سرعت بیش‌تری به خود گرفته است. آخرین شکل اقتصاد جهانی، جایگاه مهمی را در دستور کار علم رباتیک و هوش مصنوعی دارد و اقتصاددان‌هایی مانند Roubini و Stiglitz نیز وارد بحث تاثیرات رباتیک و هوش مصنوعی بر اقتصاد و کسب‌وکار شده‌اند. اگرچه Stephen Hawking ریسک‌های مربوط در این زمینه را مورد انتقاد قرار داده است، ولی ما هر روز شاهد اخبار و مقالات فوق‌العاده‌ای در صفحات کسب‌وکار هستیم که به این موضوع می‌پردازند و بدیهی است شرکت‌های بزرگ و متخصصان دیگر نمی‌توانند در برابر این تغییرات، مقاومت کنند. شکل تغییریافته‌ی اصطلاحات کسب‌وکار و نیروی کار، و روش انجام کسب‌وکار با استفاده از تکنولوژی‌های جدید، تاثیرات مختلفی بر روی زندگی کسب‌وکار روزانه و در نتیجه بر اقتصاد کشورها و اقتصاد جهانی خواهد داشت. آیتم‌ها و سرفصل‌های زیادی از جمله نرخ بیکاری، منحنی فیلیپس، کارایی، مدیریت، تحلیل CRM، مدیریت ارتباط با مشتری، فروش، برنامه‌ریزی استراتژیک، تولید انبوه، برابری قدرت خرید، GDP، تورم، پول، بانک‌های مرکزی، سیستم بانک‌داری، رهبری، آموزش، حسابرسی، مالیات و ... که در ارتباط با کسب‌وکار هستند، با خطرات متنوع، تغییرات، افشاگری‌ها و نیز فرصت‌ها و دستاوردهای حاصل از بهبود در هوش مصنوعی و رباتیک مواجه خواهند شد. یک مثال ساده می‌تواند درجه‌ی این تاثیرات را توضیح دهد: آیا ما باید به مقررات مربوط به پرداخت حق سنوات کارکنان شرکت ادامه دهیم و یا اینکه باید بر روی استهلاک/ استهلاک ربات‌ها در شرکت حساب باز کنیم (باید بجای منابع انسانی از ربات‌ها استفاده کنیم)، کدام کفه از این ترازو توسط مدیران منابع انسانی مدیریت خواهد شد و یا چرا ما باید هنوز از اسم منابع انسانی استفاده کنیم؟ هدف این مقاله‌ی مفهومی و فرضیه‌ای، پرداختن به آینده‌ی ربات‌ها، مکاتیرونیک و هوش مصنوعی و بحث کردن در مورد آن‌ها از جنبه‌های مختلف است.
