1 Internet-of-things-based optimal smart city energy management considering shiftable loads and energy storage

Formulating a novel mixed integer linear programing problem, this paper introduces an optimal Internet-of-Things-based Energy Management (EM) framework for general distribution networks in Smart Cities (SCs), in the presence of shiftable loads. The system’s decisions are optimally shared between its two main designed layers; a “core cloud” and the “edge clouds”. The EM of a Microgrid (MG), covered by an edge cloud, is directly done by its operator and the Distribution System Operator (DSO) is responsible for optimising the EM of the core cloud. Changing the load consumption pattern, based on market energy prices, for the edge clouds and their peak load hours, the framework results in decreasing the total operation cost of the edge clouds. Using the optimal trading power of the MGs aggregators as the input parameters of the core cloud optimisation problem, the DSO optimises the network’s total operation cost addressing the optimal scheduling of the energy storages. The energy storages are charged in low energy prices through the purchasing power from the market and discharged in high energy prices to meet the demand of the network and to satisfy the energy required by the edge clouds. As a result, the shiftable loads and the energy storages are used by the DSO and the MGs to meet the energy balance with the minimum cost.

2 Different aspects of microgrid management: A comprehensive review

Microgrid is a network that usually includes small generators, storages and local loads. Environmental issues, fossil fuels finitude and economic benefits are three important reasons that cause increasing attention to renewable resources and local generation. In recent years, development of renewable resources in electrical networks has been increased more than ever. Energy management in small scale networks such as microgrids has many advantages such as reducing the power losses and simplifying the control process. Hence, various aspects of microgrid management including components, network structures, operation modes, storage systems, types of load, modeling the problem, solving procedures and many more should be investigated in the microgrid management point of view. In order to achieve a perfect analysis, a complete study of recent researches is required. In this regard, a comprehensive study considering various aspects and latest investigations has been presented. In addition, to show the strength and weakness of studies and determine future works more clearly, the statistic comparison between different subjects is proposed for each section, if possible. This review enables researchers to study conveniently the latest developments in microgrid management and select their intended studies.

3 Quantification of energy flexibility of residential net-zero-energy buildings involved with dynamic operations of hybrid energy storages and diversified energy conversion strategies

For immediate response and sufficient reaction to building energy demands by avoiding excessive production, increasing stability of energy networks, and minimising energy congestion, building energy flexibility has potentials to enhance the resilience of hybrid grids to fluctuations in energy demands of multi-energy systems. However, few studies focused on dealing with the complexity of energy flexibility quantification regarding diversified energy conversions and hybrid energy storages. Moreover, few studies focused on the exploitation of energy potential provided by building energy systems itself through flexible energy control strategy. In this study, a generic methodology was proposed to characterise energy flexibility of diversified energy systems. A series of new flexibility indicators are proposed such as flexible power, flexible electricity, on-site flexible electric load fraction, on-site flexible surplus renewable fraction ratio, and flexibility factors. Technical solutions are proposed to improve the energy flexibility using integrated solutions of energy conversion, energy storage, and rule-based control strategies. Case studies with different control strategies (i.e. ‘‘battery-todemand control strategy’’ and ‘‘renewable-to-demand control strategy’’) are studied for the technical viability assessment. This study provides a generic methodology to characterise the energy flexibility regarding sophisticated building energy systems, and a rule-based control strategy for the flexibility enhancement, which will be effective in the promotion of energy flexible buildings.

4 Multi-period data driven control strategy for real-time management of energy storages in virtual power plants integrated with power grid
استراتژی کنترل داده های چند دوره برای مدیریت زمان واقعی ذخیره انرژی در نیروگاه های مجازی که با شبکه برق ادغام شده اند-2020
This paper investigates a novel real-time stochastic multi-period management strategy of a virtual power plant (VPP) using a three-layer language protocol based on computer program compiler principle, which takes advantage of the availability of the battery storage in a VPP to maximize the revenue of the VPP over the entire trading horizon considering the predicted prices in each slice of that horizon. When the conventional scenario tree method is used to solve the computational complexity of the multi-period stochastic optimization problem, it may cause the problem to become intractable when the problem-scale increases. This paper proposes a deterministic lookahead approach that makes use of a novel formal language that implements a special formal grammar to manage the real-time control on the battery storages of the VPP. The control of charging/discharging of the battery storages, which is driven by the real-time spot price and the rolling price prediction, is formalized by using the proposed recursive grammar and the corresponding non-deterministic finite automaton (NFA). For validation, the proposed approach is applied to a simple three-bus and an adapted IEEE 14-bus test system. The simulation results show that the proposed method can obtain optimal revenue by managing each battery in the VPP to operate as a local generator, a local load, an energy buyer, an energy seller, or by being in an idle state when the battery is full or empty.

سیستم های تولید توزیع شده معمولا شامل منابع محلی انرژی، ذخیره سازی، و بارها هستند. تقریبا همیشه، این کمیت ها دارای مبدل های قدرت خودشان برای واسطه گری شبکه و پردازش انرژی هستند. داشتن مبدل فردی دارای مزایایی مانند کنترل فردی انعطاف پذیرتر و طراحی ساده است اما ادغام قابلیت را تشویق نمی کند. بنابراین کاهش نیمه رساناها برای یک طراحی یکپارچه و متراکم امکان پذیر نیست. با پرداختن به این امر، تعدادی از سیستم های یکپارچه تولید انرژی که از 25% نیمه رسانای کمتر استفاده می کنند ارائه شده است. این سیستم بسته به انواع منابع، ذخیره سازی ها، و بارهای مونتاژ شده می تواند یک یا سه فاز باشد. در مقایسه با راه حل های دیگر که از سوئیچ های بیشتری استفاده می کنند، آنها می توانند در حالت شبکه گره خورده و یا مستقل بدون هیچ مصالحه ای در اجرای مورد نظر عمل کنند. برای تایید عملکرد سیستم های یکپارچه ارائه شده، تست آزمایشی در حال حاضر در دو سیستم نمونه که در آزمایشگاه مونتاژ شده اند انجام شده است.
