1 Optimal innovation investment: the role of subsidy schemes and supply chain channel power structure
سرمایه گذاری نوآوری بهینه: نقش طرح های یارانه و ساختار قدرت کانال زنجیره تامین-2021
We investigate the impact of government subsidy schemes and channel power structure on the level of inno- vation in a two-tier supply chain. Our results indicate that consumer subsidies are more effective than producer subsidies in promoting innovation investment for a given channel power structure. Regardless of the power structure, supply chain members, consumers and society benefit more from consumer subsidies. If government subsidies are absent, innovation investment is higher when neither member of the supply chain dominates, and consumer surplus and social welfare are also higher in the Nash game. Under the consumer subsidy scheme, although government expenditures are higher in the manufacturer-led game, innovation investment is the same under different power structures, and consumer surplus and social welfare are also, in turn, the same. Under the producer subsidy scheme, the manufacturer invests more in innovation, and government expenditure is also higher when the retailer dominates the supply chain. Under producer subsidies, consumers and society benefit from the presence of powerful retailers when the investment cost is lower, and consumer surplus and social welfare have an inverted U-shaped relationship with the retailer’s power otherwise.

2 Staggered boards, unequal voting rights, poison pills and innovation intensity: New evidence from the Asian markets
تابلوی مبهوت ، حق رای نابرابر ، قرص های سمی و شدت نوآوری: شواهد جدیدی از بازارهای آسیایی-2020
This study examines the impact of staggered boards, poison pills and unequal voting rights on corporate innovation intensity using a sample of listed firms in six Asian countries from 2010 to 2017. We analyze the differential effects of antitakeover provisions using the high order fixed effects panel data model that controls for firm fixed effects, industry-year fixed effects and country-year fixed effects. The propensity score matching is used to deal with possible endogeneity issues. This paper provides evidence that staggered boards impede R&D investments. In contrast we show that unequal voting rights and poison pill provisions have no significant effect on long term R&D investments. We also find that a combination of a staggered board and a poison pill provision discourages innovation investments. This study uncovers an economic mechanism on the differential effects of antitakeover provisions on R&D responsiveness to firm investment sets. Staggered boards decrease the sensitivity of R&D to the investment opportunity set, resulting to higher innovative inefficiency. The managerial moral hazard effect of staggered boards disproportionately contributes to low firm performance in innovative firms. This study provides evidence on the source of the efficiency loss from staggered boards by pointing to its governance role in promoting more inefficient allocation of R&D capital.

3 How does family management affect innovation investment propensity? The key role of innovation impulses
چگونه مدیریت خانواده روی تمایل به سرمایه گذاری در نوآوری تأثیر می گذارد؟ نقش اصلی انگیزه های نوآوری-2020
We investigate the relationship between family management and innovation investment propensity in family firms through analyzing the effect of two innovation impulses: demand-pull and technology-push. Extending the technology-push/demand-pull framework to the context of family firms, and adopting a direct measure of firms’ innovation investment propensity, we test our hypotheses on a sample of 1093 Italian small and medium-sized family firms. Our results show that both the demand-pull and technology-push innovation impulses moderate the relationship between family management and the firms’ propensity to invest in innovation, reducing the negative effect exerted by family management on family firms’ innovation investment propensity. Moreover, our evidence shows that family firms’ innovation investments are more sensitive to the demand-pull than the technology-push impulse. Overall, our findings suggest to practitioners and policymakers that family firm in- novation impulses are important contingencies that need to be taken into account when making innovation investment decisions.

4 From buzz to bucks: The impact of social media opinions on the locus of innovation
از شایعه تا مخالفت ها: تاثیر نظرات رسانه های اجتماعی روی مکان هندسی نوآوری-2018
Social media influences business practices such as innovation activities. This study is anchored in the theoretical paradigm of strategic information technology (IT) alignment and the literature on social media and its business value. We examine how the valence and volume of user-generated content (UGC) from social media influence firm-level innovation strategies. Based on an analysis of five years of panel data for 886 listed firms and their 6.2 million relevant microblogs, we observed three interesting results. First, the valence of social media UGC has a U-shaped relationship with firms’ innovation investments; and compared with neutral UGC, both negative and positive content lead to more innovation investment. Second, we found that this curvilinear relationship is mitigated as the volume of UGC increases. Third, we verified that increasing innovation investment improves firm performance. We then examined these findings using a series of strict robustness checks and discussed our study’s contribution to theory and practice.
