Platform skills and the value of new hires in the software industry
مهارت های بستر های نرم افزاری و ارزش استخدام های جدید در صنعت نرم افزار-2020 The software industry is unique in terms of its “platform economics” where many firms build their products
based on dominant software platforms. Hiring workers from firms with high platform knowledge may thus
create externalities for the recipient software firms. Yet, while prior studies have shown that hiring IT workers
creates value for recipient firms, the sources of such hiring and the characteristics of recipients that increase
value in the software industry are unclear. This paper contributes to the literature by uncovering that the value
created through hiring IT workers in the software industry stems largely from firms that are high in platform
human capital. Using a large dataset derived from an online professional network, we show that hiring platformskilled
workers from firms that are high in platform human capital is associated with a statistically and economically
significant increase in financial performance of the recipient software firms. Further, the value of
hiring derives from platform-skilled workers with tenure long enough at the source firms, and for recipient firms
that are innovative and have high R&D intensity. We thus explicate the sources of hiring and recipient characteristics

Forgotten or not? Home country embeddedness and returnee entrepreneurship
فراموش شده یا نه؟ تعامل داخلی و کارآفرینی بازگشتی در کشور مبدا-2019 Building on the social network and strategic entrepreneurship literature, we investigate the overall relationship
between returnee entrepreneurs’ networks in different periods and locations, domestic resource acquisitions and
firm performance. While the labor mobility literature emphasizes the “gone but not forgotten” networks in the
prior location of migrants, other studies argue that returnees suffer from a lack of local networks. Our findings
show that returnee entrepreneurs are different in the extent of their home country embeddedness while they are
overseas, which indicates different degrees of enduring networks in the home countries. The effect of home
country embeddedness improves the performance of returnee entrepreneurship via domestic resource acquisition,
and this effect could be substituted by pre-overseas local ties and the presence of local top management
team (TMT) members. This study extends returnee research by shedding light on the importance of network
maintenance in determining whether the home country’s network endures or decays and by highlighting the

Organization capital, labor market flexibility, and stock returns around the world
سرمایه سازمانی، انعطاف پذیری بازار کار و بازگشت های سهام در سراسر جهان-2018 Using data from 20 OECD countries, we find that firms with greater organization capital have significantly higher stock returns and that this represents an international phenomenon. We also find new evidence that the positive association between organization capital and stock returns increases with labor market flexibility. This finding is consistent with greater labor mobility and competition in flexible labor markets rendering organization capital investment riskier from the shareholders’ perspective.
