1 Environmental management and labor productivity: The moderating role of quality management
Abundant studies have been made around the impact of environmental management on economic performance in business, but there is still no consistent conclusion. This study focuses on labor productivity as a measure of economic performance. We argue that environmental management has a negative impact on the labor productivity of company in the special context of Chinese increasingly stringent environmental regulations, but this impact is moderated by quality management. Environmental management score and the years that companies have passed ISO 9001 are set as proxies for independent and moderating variable respectively. A sample including 229 Chinese listed companies is used to test the hypotheses by multiple regression analysis. Results show that environmental management has a negative impact on labor productivity, and quality management moderates the relationship.

2 Safety management efficiency of Chinas coal enterprises and its influencing factors Based on the DEA-Tobit two-stage model
In order to accurately analyze the safety management efficiency of China’s coal enterprises, based on the panel data of 14 coal listed enterprises in 2012–2018, this paper analyzes the overall technical efficiency (TE), pure technical efficiency (PTE) and scale efficiency (SE) of safety management of sample enterprises by the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model, and builds Tobit model of random panel effect to evaluate the impact of business management and safety investment on safety management efficiency. The results show that: in 2012–2018, the average values of TE, PTE and SE of sample enterprises are respectively 0.674, 0.777 and 0.864; all have great room for improvement. The development of PTE and SE in most sample enterprises is unbalanced; TE of sample enterprises does not significantly improve, and shows a trend of rising-decreasing-rising; safety investment, enterprise scale and labor productivity are significantly positively related to safety management technical efficiency, while safety training person time and employees quality are negatively correlated. This paper identified the positive and negative effects of various influencing factors on the safety management efficiency of coal enterprises, and analyzed the main reasons that hinder the improvement of safety efficiency, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions, which are helpful for coal enterprises to effectively improve their safety management efficiency and economic efficiency.

3 A look inside banking profitability: Evidence from a dollarized emerging country
We empirically analyze the determinants of private banking profitability in Ecuador for the period2002−2017. We contribute to the growing literature in four ways. First, we propose a more robust mea-sure to quantify technical efficiency by using a two stages DEA with a Fractional Response Model. Second,we propose to jointly use three competition – market power measures, in line with the new industrialorganization approach, to improve the analysis of industry determinants, which has always been doneassessing separately every market power measure. Third, we introduce two new factors that may influ-ence banking profitability: regulatory/institutional variables and dollarization derived factors, to test howbeing a dollarized (with foreign currency) economy may affect banks’ profitability. Finally, to address theweakness coming from the dynamic form of the Generalized Methods of Moments (GMM), we perform animproved version of it by treating the capital as an endogenous variable and several micro-determinantsas given. We also perform some robustness checks by using a Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA) in order toidentify a robust set of determinants. Our results show that capital ratio, lending rate, labor productivity, size, efficiency and assets composition are micro-stable determinants of banks ‘profitability. In addi-tion, we found that market power is a strong determinant of Ecuadorians’ banks profitability. Regardingmacroeconomic factors, we found that the GDP cycle, inflation and spread are determinants of bank-ing profitability while the regulatory variables did not show any relation. Finally, our results show thatdollarization derived factors have an effect on private banking profitability.

4 Social media information benefits, knowledge management and smart organizations
Social technologies can provide a potent means for organizations to manage their information flows and thus induce changes in their knowledge management (KM) systems, which can then be linked to performance im provements. This paper examines the growth of social media within organizations, considering the impact this may have upon knowledge sharing in a particular type of KM system - Community of Practice - (CoP) based discussion groups (KMDG). We focus on this KM tool because it provides employees with an opportunity to strategically reach out to different groups of people within their CoP, and engage in information exchange and communication. Using a content analysis method, we investigate two intermediate information mechanisms (information richness and informal communication) that social media KMDGs are theorized to generate, and quantify their effects on labor productivity and return on assets. Our findings provide evidence of KMDG po sitively affecting organizational performance through embedded information and social communication.

5 Copper mining productivity: Lessons from Chile
Chile represents almost one third of the world’s copper production. Mining is one of the main industries that contributes to our country’s development with resources and is globally recognized. Due to the end of the commodity cycle, improving productivity will be a key variable in mining performance in incoming years. This paper studies mining productivity in Chile by relying on two indicators: measure of the total factor productivity (TFP) using the traditional Solow methodology, and labor productivity. Since 2000, we found a decrease in TFP, explained mainly by the participation of capital as well as diverse factor adjustments to labor and capital inputs. Average labor productivity also decreases 42% from 1999 to 2010, a decrease explained by four determinants: real mining wages, electricity prices, copper prices and mineral grade. Since 2010, average labor productivity has increased 30%, and there is also an opportunity for additional improvement by reducing energy costs as well as by aligning productivity and labor performances.

6 Productivity growth and income in the tourism sector: Role of tourism demand and human capital investment
This paper proposes a model for the demand for tourism in the context of a developing country. The parameters of the model are a tourist sector characterised by monopolistic competition, where human capital is the main factor of production and hotels have market power. Additionally land use is marked by demand from both agricultural and tourism sectors. From the household side, a simplified OLG approach is developed to consider consumption, human activity and the number of children. A dynamic frame work is therefore identified to investigate the long-run consequences of increasing labor productivity and lowering the fertility rate. If the supply-side policy leads to economic growth, the tourism led growth hypothesis is theoretically confirmed. It is concluded that an increase in labor productivity generates positive growth effects only if the demand for tourism is elastic, otherwise negative results arise.
