1 Digital Twin-driven approach to improving energy efficiency of indoor lighting based on computer vision and dynamic BIM

Intelligent lighting systems and surveillance systems have become an important part of intelligent buildings. However, the current intelligent lighting system generally adopts independent sensor control and does not perform multi-source heterogeneous data fusion with other digital systems. This paper fully considers the linkage between the lighting system and the surveillance system and proposes a digital twin lighting (DTL) system that mainly consists of three parts. Firstly, a visualized operation and maintenance (VO&M) platform for a DTL system was established based on dynamic BIM. Secondly, the environment perception, key-frame similarity judgment, and multi-channel key-frame cut and merge mechanism were utilized to preprocess the video stream of the surveillance system in real-time. Lastly, pedestrians detected using YOLOv4 and the ambient brightness perceived by the environment perception mechanism were transmitted to the cloud database and were continuously read by the VO&M platform. The intent here was to aid timely adaptive adjustment of the digital twin and realistic lighting through the internet. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by experimenting with a surveillance video stream for 14 days. The key results of the experiments are as follows: (1) the accuracy rate of intelligent decision control reached 95.15%; (2) energy consumption and electricity costs were reduced by approximately 79%; and (3) the hardware cost and energy consumption of detection equipment and the time and cost of operation and maintenance (O&M) were greatly reduced.

2 Assessment of public lighting systems considering mesopic vision
ارزیابی سیستم های روشنایی عمومی با توجه به دید مزوپیک-2021
The objective of this research was to evaluate public lighting systems installed in a concrete pathway considering the effects of mesopic vision. The light sources evaluated were high-pressure sodium vapour, metal halide and LED. The quantitative evaluation was based on in-situ measurements of the illuminance and luminance levels and computer simulations. The qualitative aspect included the application of questionnaires to local users. It was found that the energy savings could be up to 53% when replacing metal-halide lamps with LEDs. As for the qualitative analysis, the LED lamp was the one that received the best evaluation, followed by the metal halide and finally the high-pressure sodium vapour. The LED provided a greater sense of security to people, although the illuminance level provided was 31% less than that of the sodium vapour lamp. The research confirmed the effects of mesopic vision, i.e. when light sources with higher S/P (Scotopic/Photopic) ratio were used, the luminous perception and efficiency of the systems increased. Based on the analysis performed, it was noticed that the use of LEDs to light a concrete pathway was the best option in terms of energy savings and safety.© 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

3 Energy saving based lighting system optimization and smart control solutions for rail transportation: Evidence from China

As the natural resources are becoming exhausted, energy consumption by metro systems dominates internal transportation resources in urban areas. The comprehensive exploration of energy improvements in lighting system energy is necessary. To evaluate the energy-saving potential and identify the efficiency improvement opportunities for lighting operations in metro systems, an intelligent energy management system for metro stations is examined through a case study in Nanchang city of China. First, the study explores the main factors influencing the lighting energy consumption of metro systems and analyses the lighting distribution in different station regions. Second, DIALux software is employed to optimize and monitor the best illuminating effect for hall lighting in the selected station. Third, an intelligent model is proposed for the lighting system based on the energy-saving scheme and solution using BECH energy analysis software combined with DIALux software. A thermal model is proposed to verify the energy and load performances. Results show that (1) the proper layout by means of DIALux software, can not only meet the functional demands of lighting but also reduce energy consumption; (2) intelligent lighting control system can improve the lighting energy-saving design, and the lighting control framework is capable of refined control; and (3) based on the performance analyses, the solution with the adopted DALI digital light adjustment is helpful for increasing passengers comfort and realizing the goals reduction.The novelty is to integrate the lighting energy saving solution with software within an intelligent management and verified its valuable application, it is practical for construction emission control

4 Dynamic luminance tuning method for tunnel lighting based on data mining of real-time traffic flow

Tunnel lighting constitutes one of the major expenses incurred in transportation lighting, and hence substantial research has been conducted to improve the efficiency of lighting and thus to minimize operating costs. This paper investigates an intelligent method for adjusting tunnel lighting with dynamic control based on data mining of traffic flow distribution, traffic composition, and vehicle speed distribution. Field monitoring data of traffic flow in five real expressway tunnels, which are in HeDa expressway, Jilin Province, China, was used in the analysis. The K-MEANS clustering algorithm was used to group (or cluster) the distribution of daily traffic volume into six-time periods, in which the traffic volume includes two peak periods (8:01–11:23 and 14:31–19:01). A dynamic luminance regulation method is proposed that distinguishes operational strategies under different time periods. Furthermore, the impact of tunnel length and traffic flow on the effect of energysaving and system sustainability of the proposed method was assessed. The results show that when using the proposed method, the energy-savings in tunnel lighting could be between about 50% and 60% for a daily traffic volume between 750 and 2500 vehicles. The results also show that the switching frequency of the lighting system is significantly reduced, which would significantly enhance the sustainability of the lighting system.

از آنجایی که گوشی های هوشمند روز به روز قدرتمند و همه گیر می شوند، یکپارچه سازی آنها به صورت سیستمهای هوشمند روشنایی می تواند هم راحتی و هم بهره وری انرژی را بالاتر ببرد. این مقاله یک نمونه آزمایشی از سیستم روشنایی هوشمند با ویژگی های امنیتی بالا را برای خانه های هوشمند ارائه می دهد. برنامه کاربردی سفارشی گوشی همراه اندرویدی، استفاده از حسگر روشنایی محیطی را جهت اجرای یک الگوریتم بازخوردی نوین حلقه بسته و جهت اجرای عملیات جمع آوری روشنایی روز، ممکن می سازد. یک تحلیل هنزیه ای نشان می دهد که نصب کل سیستم اندکی از محصولات تجاری ارزان تر است و به دلیل قابلیت های آن در جمع آوری روشنایی روز، پتانسیل صرفه جویی پولی را در بلند مدت دارد و کارایی بالاتری از محصولات تجاری فعلی دارد.

6 Office building cooling load reduction using thermal analysis method – A case study

Buildings worldwide consume approximately 45% of primary energy sources, making it the single largest energy consumption sector. The importance of improving a building’s energy performance was emphasized by the government with the enforcement of sustainable building policies. Article 9 of the Directive 2010/31/EU of the European Parliament and the Council (19th May 2010) on the energy performance of buildings states the importance of stimulating refurbishment of existing buildings into near zero-energy buildings. However, the effectiveness of the process depends on the basic building structure and the refurbishment designs. Hence, methods to find the effective strategies for retrofitting and modelling to predict energy reduction is vital. Unlike the previous studies, this paper presents a method for a deep building retrofit based on the whole building’s thermal analysis specifically for cooling demand countries. This work set against recommended best practice office building energy benchmarks in Malaysia, and following a comprehensive building audit, a retrofit strategy was proposed based on tar- get building’s thermal analysis with cooling demand reduction in particular focus. It was found that 71% of the building’s heat gain emanated from its lighting system and solar heat gain through windows. A 40.2% reduction in the building’s cooling load is estimated to reduce 47% of the total energy consumption. A comparison of the actual and simulated energy results suggested that the simulation made under pre- dicted the energy reduction by 4.3%.© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

7 Business innovation and diffusion of off-grid solar technologies in India

India is a country where 300 million people still live without access to formal electricity, and where hundreds of millions more live with irregular supply through the existing grid network. This paper examines business innovation in the diffusion of off-grid solar technologies in India. An in-country survey of off-grid solar energy providers from across the nation was conducted and coupled with extensive field interviews. Findings reveal that most off-grid solar energy enterprises are not operating in the government subsidy market and that more than half are not offering any form of financing to their customers when selling their products. Also, more than half of the enterprises are selling their products in areas where the electric grid is present. Analysis of data collected suggests that an increase in product categories (lanterns, solar home lighting systems (SHS), micro-grids, etc.) negatively affects unit scaling for a firm but increases the likelihood that the firm is offering financing for its products. In areas without the electricity grid, the number of off-grid solar technology options decreases because the firms operating in the area have fewer categories of technology options. This study finds that off-grid solar technology enterprises that focus on fewer technology categories are more likely to achieve unit scaling. This finding must be balanced with the fact that the extent of the grid has not inhibited the market for off-grid solar technologies, but rather affects the number of categories of technologies that can be offered in those regions. Development programs should thus recognize that those who need electricity access the most may be the ones with the most limited technology options.© 2015 International Energy Initiative. 8 Energy savings by energy management systems: A review

This study investigated energy saving effects of published papers related to energy management system (EMS), building energy management system (BEMS), industrial, company and factory energy management system (I/C/ F/EMS); and EMS for heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigerating equipment, artificial lighting systems, motors and others (EMS for equipment). From 1976 to 2014, management performance reported by 305 EMS cases (105 BEMS cases, 103 I/C/F EMS cases and 97 cases of EMS for equipment) is analyzed to evaluate varied energy saving effects. Statistical results show that saving effects of BEMS increased from 11.39% to 16.22% yearly. Inversely, saving effects of I/C/F EMS decreased from 18.89% to 10.35%. Regarding to EMS for equipment, there is no obvious trend but only the averaged saving effect can be reported. EMS for artificial lighting systems has the highest saving effect up to 39.5% in average. For HVAC and other equipment, energy saving effects are around 14.07% and 16.66% respectively. These energy saving performances are correlated with developed EMS functions. The key EMS functions could be identified from their developing progress for effective energy sav- ings. Based on the quantitative analysis, the future trends of EMS are discussed.& 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

9 Comparative study of commercial building energy-efficiency retrofit policies in four pilot cities in China
مطالعه تطبیقی مقاوم سازی بهره وری انرژی ساختمان تجاری در چهار شهرستان پایلوت در چین-2016
The energy efficiency of existing commercial buildings is more challenging to regulate and improve than the energy efficiency of new constructions. In 2011 and 2012, the Chinese Government selected four cities- Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, and Chongqing- to implement pilot commercial building energy efficiency retrofit program. Based on site surveys and expert interviews in these pilot cities, this research conducted a comparative analysis on incentive policies of local city level. The analysis results show that policy designs of existing commercial buildings should be further improved. The aspects that influence the implementation effect in the future, such as subsidy level, installments, and business model pro- motion, should be specified in the policy clauses. Referring to the technical solution and cost-benefit in Chongqing, we found that lighting system is the most common retrofit objects while envelope system is the least common one. And the subsidy incentive is greatest for educational buildings, followed by office buildings. In the end, we further discussed the problems and obstacles in commercial building retrofit market, and provided a series of recommendations.& 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
