IoT-based Prediction Models in the Environmental Context: A Systematic Literature Review

Furthermore, the advent of Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm has enhanced the research activity in the environmental field offering low-cost sensors. Moreover, artificial
intelligence and more specifically, statistical and machine learning methodologies have proved their predictive power in many disciplines and various
real-world problems. As a result of the aforementioned, many scientists of
the environmental research field have performed prediction models exploiting
the strength of IoT data. Hence, insightful information could be extracted
from the review of these research works and for this reason, a Systematic
Literature Review (SLR) is introduced in the present manuscript in order to
summarize the recent studies of the field under specific rules and constraints.
From the SLR, 54 primary studies have been extracted during 2017-2021.
The analysis showed that many IoT-based prediction models have been applied the previous years in 10 different environmental issues, presenting in
the majority of the primary studies promising results.

Is the Internet of Things a helpful employee? An exploratory study of discourses of Canadian farmers

for the modernization of agriculture. “Internet of Things” is one of the technologies that is pre-
dicted to offer many solutions. We conducted a discourse analysis of 19 interviews with farmers in
Ontario, Canada, asking them to describe their experience of working with IoT and related
technologies. One main discourse with two opposing tendencies was identified: farmers recognize
their relationship with IoT and related technology and view technology as a kind of “employee”,
but some tend to emphasize (1) an optimistic view which is discourse of technology is a “Helpful
Employee”; while others tend to emphasize (2) a pessimistic view which is a discourse of tech-
nology is an “Untrustworthy Employee”. We examine these tendencies in the light of the literature
on organizational behavior and identify potential outcomes of these beliefs. The results suggest
that a farmer’s style of approaching technology can be assessed on a similar scale as managers’

Understanding the effect of surfactants on two-phase flow using computer vision
درک اثر سورفکتانت ها بر جریان دو فازی با استفاده از بینایی کامپیوتر-2022 The effect of surfactants on vertical gas-liquid flow is experimentally investigated in a 12.7 mm diameter
tube at conditions relevant to an ammonia-water bubble absorber. The characteristics of two-phase flow
are studied using an air-water mixture, both with and without the addition of 1-octanol as the surfac-
tant. High-speed videography is used to study the flow patterns and quantify interfacial areas and bubble
velocities. Novel computer vision-based methods are used to analyze and quantify these flow parame-
ters. The addition of 1-octanol results in enhancement in interfacial area due to the prevention of bubble
coalescence leading to many small diameter bubbles. Measured values of interfacial area are compared
with predictions from correlations in the literature, and agreement and differences are interpreted and
discussed. The bubble velocity is measured by object tracking using the optical flow method. Surfactants
lead to a decrease in bubble velocity and increase in the residence time. These are surmised to be due
to the shear stresses caused by the non-uniform concentration distribution of surfactant along the bub-
ble surface. Overall, the addition of surfactants can lead to appreciable enhancement in heat and mass

A systematic review on computer vision-based parking lot management applied on public datasets
مرور سیستماتیک مدیریت پارکینگ مبتنی بر بینایی ماشین اعمال شده بر روی مجموعه داده های عمومی-2022 Computer vision-based parking lot management methods have been extensively researched upon owing to their
flexibility and cost-effectiveness. To evaluate such methods authors often employ publicly available parking lot
image datasets. In this study, we surveyed and compared robust publicly available image datasets specifically
crafted to test computer vision-based methods for parking lot management approaches and consequently
present a systematic and comprehensive review of existing works that employ such datasets. The literature
review identified relevant gaps that require further research, such as the requirement of dataset-independent
approaches and methods suitable for autonomous detection of position of parking spaces. In addition, we have
noticed that several important factors such as the presence of the same cars across consecutive images, have
been neglected in most studies, thereby rendering unrealistic assessment protocols. Furthermore, the analysis
of the datasets also revealed that certain features that should be present when developing new benchmarks,
such as the availability of video sequences and images taken in more diverse conditions, including nighttime
and snow, have not been incorporated.

On the Logical Error Rate of Sparse Quantum Codes
در مورد میزان خطای منطقی کدهای کوانتومی پراکنده-2022 The quantum paradigm presents a phenomenon known as degeneracy that can potentially
improve the performance of quantum error correcting codes. However, the effects of this mechanism are
sometimes ignored when evaluating the performance of sparse quantum codes and the logical error rate is
not always correctly reported. In this article, we discuss previously existing methods to compute the logical
error rate and we present an efficient coset-based method inspired by classical coding strategies to estimate
degenerate errors and distinguish them from logical errors. Additionally, we show that the proposed method
presents a computational advantage for the family of Calderbank–Shor–Steane codes. We use this method
to prove that degenerate errors are frequent in a specific family of sparse quantum codes, which stresses
the importance of accurately reporting their performance. Our results also reveal that the modified decoding
strategies proposed in the literature are an important tool to improve the performance of sparse quantum
codes.

Preparation of Quantum Superposition Using Partial Negation
تهیه برهم نهی کوانتومی با استفاده از نفی جزئی-2022 The preparation of a quantum superposition is the key to the success of many quantum
algorithms and quantum machine learning techniques. The preparation of an incomplete or a non-uniform
quantum superposition with certain properties is a non-trivial task. In this paper, an n-qubits variational
quantum circuit using partial negation and controlled partial negation operators is proposed to prepare
a quantum superposition from a given space of probability distributions. The speed of the preparation
process and the accuracy of the prepared superposition has special importance to the success of any quantum
algorithm. The proposed method can be used to prepare the required quantum superposition in O(n) steps

Quantum Machine Learning Applications in the Biomedical Domain: A Systematic Review

which tend to range from chemistry to agriculture, natural language processing, and healthcare due to
exponentially growing computational power and advancement in machine learning algorithms. Furthermore,
the processing of classical data and machine learning algorithms in the quantum domain has given rise to
an emerging field like quantum machine learning. Recently, quantum machine learning has become quite a
challenging field in the case of healthcare applications. As a result, quantum machine learning has become
a common and effective technique for data processing and classification across a wide range of domains.
Consequently, quantum machine learning is the most commonly used application of quantum computing.
The main objective of this work is to present a brief overview of current state-of-the-art published articles
between 2013 and 2021 to identify, analyze, and classify the different QML algorithms and applications in the
biomedical field. Furthermore, the approach adheres to the requirements for conducting systematic literature
review techniques such as research questions and quality metrics of the articles. Initially, we discovered
3149 articles, excluded the 2847 papers, and read the 121 full papers. Therefore, this research compiled
30 articles that comply with the quantum machine learning models and quantum circuits using biomedical
data. Eventually, this article provides a broad overview of quantum machine learning limitations and future
prospects.

Lossy Data Compression for IoT Sensors: A Review

enabling large systems that connect a huge number of intelligent sensors and subsequent data
collection for analytical applications. This factor is responsible for the substantial increase in
the current volume of data generated by IoT devices. The large volume of data generated by
IoT sensors can lead to unusual demands on cloud storage and data transmission bandwidths.
A suitable approach to address these issues is through data compression approaches. This
article presents a systematic review of the literature on lossy data compression algorithms that
allows the systems to reduce the data detected by IoT devices. Lossy algorithms have a good
compression ratio, preserving data quality and minimizing compression errors. A taxonomy was
proposed from the review results, and the main works were classified, analyzed, and discussed.

Secure firmware Over-The-Air updates for IoT: Survey, challenges, and discussions

manufacturers of IoT devices and IoT-related service providers are competing. Time to market
has become essential to be competitive. The faster a competitor develops and integrates his
product, the more likely he is to dominate the market. This competition could lead to critical
security issues due to the lack of testing or the short development time. Moreover, lots of
IoT devices present some vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers. They are also
constantly subject to Zero-days, which require quick intervention to maintain the security of
the environments in which they are deployed in. For these purposes, the quick update of the
firmware image of these IoT devices is an effective way to counter most of these attacks. This
document starts by defining the firmware update mechanisms for IoT, and in particular the ones
done Over-The-Air. Then presents a state-of-the-art of the currently proposed solutions, with the
particularity of surveying from the literature, the standardization bodies and from some well known industrial solutions. It also proposes a new classification of the different types of System
on Chip (SoC) present in the marketed IoT devices together with an analysis of the different
challenges and threats related to the OTA update. The objective is to open up the horizon for
future research directions.
