The role of location and social strength for friendship prediction in location-based social networks
نقش مکان و قدرت اجتماعی برای پیش بینی دوستی در شبکه های اجتماعی مبتنی بر مکان-2018 Recent advances in data mining and machine learning techniques are focused on exploiting location data. These advances, combined with the increased availability of location-acquisition technology, have encouraged social networking services to offer to their users different ways to share their location information. These social networks, called location-based social networks (LBSNs), have attracted millions of users and the attention of the research community. One fundamental task in the LBSN context is the friendship prediction due to its role in different applications such as recommendation systems. In the literature exists a variety of friendship prediction methods for LBSNs, but most of them give more importance to the location information of users and disregard the strength of relationships existing between these users. The contributions of this article are threefold, we: 1) carried out a comprehensive survey of methods for friendship prediction in LBSNs and proposed a taxonomy to organize the existing methods; 2) put forward a proposal of five new methods addressing gaps identified in our survey while striving to find a balance between optimizing computational resources and improving the predictive power; and 3) used a comprehensive evaluation to quantify the prediction abilities of ten current methods and our five proposals and selected the top-5 friendship prediction methods for LBSNs. We thus present a general panorama of friendship prediction task in the LBSN domain with balanced depth so as to facilitate research and real-world application design regarding this important issue.

Efficient techniques for time-constrained information dissemination using location-based social networks
تکنیک های کارآمد برای زمان محدود انتشار اطلاعات محرمانه با استفاده از شبکه های اجتماعی مبتنی بر مکان-2017 Social networks have undergone an explosive growth in recent years. They constitute a
central part of users everyday lives as they are used as major tools for the spread of
information, ideas and notifications among the members of the network. In this work we
investigate the use of location-based social networks as a medium of emergency notifica
tion, for efficient dissemination of emergency information among members of the social
network under time constraints. Our objective is the following: given a location-based
social network comprising a number of mobile users, the social relationships among the
users, the set of recipients, and the corresponding timeliness requirements, our goal is to
select an appropriate subset of users so that the spread of information is maximized, time
constraints are satisfied and costs are considered. We propose LATITuDE, our system that
investigates the interactions among the members of the social network to infer their social
relationships, and develop scalable dissemination mechanisms that select the most efficient
set of users to initiate the dissemination process in order to maximize the information reach
among the appropriate receivers within a time window. Our detailed experimental results
illustrate that our approach is practical, effectively addresses the problem of informing the
appropriate set of users within a deadline when an emergency event occurs, uses a small
number of messages, and consistently outperforms its competitors.

Experiential Engagement and Active vs: Passive Behavior in Mobile Location-based Social Networks: The Moderating Role of Privacy
تعامل تجربی و فعال در مقابل: رفتار منفعل در شبکه های اجتماعی مبتنی بر مکان: نقش موثر حفظ حریم خصوصی-2017 The study aims to understand how social media and mobile change customer experiences and influence the online active behavior. We explore
how leveraging differently on experiences that the users live online helps to increase experiential engagement and mitigate the negative influence
of privacy concern on the active use of location-based social networking applications. We conceptualize experiential engagement as a second-order
construct that is manifested in two first-order “experience” constructs (Personal Engagement and Social Interactive Engagement). We theorize that
our engagement constructs are causally related to consumer active and passive use of a mobile location-based social network and we test (n = 379)
the moderating role of privacy concern on this relation in EU and the US. Findings show that Personal Engagement plays an important role
influencing active usage when users are more concerned with privacy issues. Social Interactive Engagement shows a significant effect on passive
usage meaning that the more people experience a deep sense of community the more they are interested in reading other comments or collecting
information. Managerial implications are discussed.
