1 Face mask recogniser using image processing and computer vision approach
The world saw a health crisis with the onset of the COVID-19 virus outbreak. The mask has been identified as the most efficient way to prevent the spread of virus [1]. This has driven the necessity for a face mask recogniser that not only detects the presence of a mask but also gives the accuracy to which a person is wearing the face mask. Also, the face mask should be recognised in all angles as well. The goal of this study is to create a new and improved real time face mask recogniser using image processing and computer vision approach. A Kaggle dataset which consisted of images with and without masks was used. For the purpose of this study a pre-trained convolutional neural network Mobile Net V2 was used. The performance of the given model was assessed. The model presented in this paper can detect the face mask with 98% precision. This Face mask recogniser can effi- ciently detect the face mask in side wise direction which makes it more useful. A comparison of the performance metrics of the existing algorithms is also presented. Now with the spread of the infectious variant OMICRON, it is necessary to implement such a robust face mask recogniser which can help control the spread.

2 Smart mask – Wearable IoT solution for improved protection and personal health
The use of face masks is an important way to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. In this paper, we envision the Smart Mask, an IoT supported platform and ecosystem aiming to prevent and control the spreading of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses. The integration of sensing, materials, AI, wireless, IoT, and software will help the gathering of health data and health-related event detection in real time from the user as well as from their environment. In the larger scale, with the help of AI-based analysis for health data it is possible to predict and decrease medical costs with accurate diagnoses and treatment plans, where the comparison of personal data to large-scale public data enables drawing up a personal health trajectory, for example. Key research prob- lems for smart respiratory protective equipment are identified in addition to future research di- rections. A Smart Mask prototype was developed with accompanying user application, backend and heath AI to study the concept.

A novel multiple-single-channel color image cryptosystem based on unequal spectrum decomposition (USD) and 2D sine improved 1ogistic iterative chaotic map with infinite collapse modulation map (2D-SLIM) is proposed. In this method, R, G, and B channels of each color image of an authorized user is fused with corresponding LL sub-band of a gray-scale carrier image by inverse discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to obtain single-channel and watermarked image. The individual biometric key of an authorized user is produced by his/her phase- encoded irisprint and then modulated by chaotic random phase mask (CRPM). So the parameters of CRPM are used as decryption keys with the uniqueness of the irisprint. The watermarked image as input image is normalized, multiplied with biometric key, and then Fresnel transformed. The Fresnel spectrum is divided into two complex-value masks by using unequal spectrum decomposition in which one phase mask is exploited as decryption key and other as ciphertext. The final ciphertext is obtained by adding individual ciphertexts. The encryption and decryption process can be realized with a hybrid optoelectronic system. Numerical simulations have been performed to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed system.

4 A deep learning approach to the screening of malaria infection: Automated and rapid cell counting, object detection and instance segmentation using Mask R-CNN
Accurate and early diagnosis is critical to proper malaria treatment and hence death prevention. Several com- puter vision technologies have emerged in recent years as alternatives to traditional microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests. In this work, we used a deep learning model called Mask R-CNN that is trained on uninfected and Plasmodium falciparum-infected red blood cells. Our predictive model produced reports at a rate 15 times faster than manual counting without compromising on accuracy. Another unique feature of our model is its ability to generate segmentation masks on top of bounding box classifications for immediate visualization, making it superior to existing models. Furthermore, with greater standardization, it holds much potential to reduce errors arising from manual counting and save a significant amount of human resources, time, and cost.

5 Computer vision approaches for detecting missing barricades
The installation of barricades effectively prevents falls from height (FFH) on construction sites. Common approaches for detecting missing barricades (e.g., manual inspection of the site or three-dimensional models) are not practical due to two inherent challenges: (1) these approaches are labor-intensive and time-consuming; and(2) FFH hazards are dynamic and changing as construction work progresses. To address these challenges, two computer vision-based detection approaches, including Masks Comparison Approach (MCA) and Missing Object Detection Approach (MODA), are developed in this study to automatically detect missing barricade. The performance of the proposed approaches and their benefits and implementation challenges were evaluated through a case study. The results demonstrate that MODA can achieve better performance and have several implementation advantages over MCA. The average precision and average recall for MODA were 57.9% and 73.6%, respectively. These two approaches can help site managers take action promptly to reduce the risks of FFH accidents.

6 An agent-based model for supply chain recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic
An agent-based model for supply chain recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic-2021
The current COVID-19 pandemic has hugely disrupted supply chains (SCs) in different sectors globally. The global demand for many essential items (e.g., facemasks, food products) has been phenomenal, resulting in supply failure. SCs could not keep up with the shortage of raw materials, and manufacturing firms could not ramp up their production capacity to meet these unparalleled demand levels. This study aimed to examine a set of congruent strategies and recovery plans to minimize the cost and maximize the availability of essential items to respond to global SC disruptions. We used facemask SCs as an example and simulated the current state of its supply and demand using the agent-based modeling method. We proposed two main recovery strategies relevant to building emergency supply and extra manufacturing capacity to mitigate SC disruptions. Our findings revealed that minimizing the risk response time and maximizing the production capacity helped essential item manufacturers meet consumers’ skyrocketing demands and timely supply to consumers, reducing financial shocks to firms. Our study suggested that delayed implementation of the proposed recovery strategies could lead to supply, demand, and financial shocks for essential item manufacturers. This study scrutinized strategies to mitigate the demand–supply crisis of essential items. It further proposed congruent strategies and recovery plans to alleviate the problem in the exceptional disruptive event caused by COVID-19.

7 Reducing human efforts in video segmentation annotation with reinforcement learning
Manual annotation of video segmentation datasets requires an immense amount of human effort, thus, reduction of human annotation costs is an active topic of research. While many papers deal with the propagation of masks through frames of a video, only a few results attempt to optimize annotation task selection. In this paper we present a deep learning based solution to the latter problem and train it using Reinforcement Learning. Our approach utilizes a modified version of the Dueling Deep Q-Network sharing weight parameters across the temporal axis of the video. This technique enables the trained agent to select annotation tasks from the whole video. We evaluate our annotation task selection method by means of a hierarchical supervoxel segmentation based mask propagation algorithm.

8 Psychodynamics of shame in prison: The Russian dolls of shame
Objectives. – Shame is omnipresent in jail, often in the shadows orhidden behind the masks of other affects. However, psychologicalresearch in a forensic context has paid little attention to this feeling.Method. – This present qualitative study, conducted at a Paris sub-urban jail, is based on psychotherapeutic interviews and groupdiscussions on parenthood with inmates.Results. – Shame first reveals itself silently through body language:shifty eyes, sweaty palms, stooped shoulders. Then it becomesmore apparent when incarcerated individuals expose their perso-nal background, the origin of their delinquent behavior, or theireveryday life in prison.Discussion. – We posit that shame is structural and cumulative inthe life of incarcerated individuals, nested like five Russian dollsin their psyche: first, shame germinates in their social and culturalenvironment; secondly, it roots itself in the experience of violenceand trauma; then it is revealed at the heart of the psychodynamicsof crime; it is amplified by imprisonment; and lastly, while still injail, shame is transmitted to the next generation.Conclusion. – Our research has demonstrated the prevalence ofshame in the psychodynamics of inmates. Further research couldfocus on defining specific psychotherapeutic approaches that canhelp them overcome shame.
