Pain Prevalence, Pain Management, and the Need for Pain Education in Healthcare Undergraduates
شیوع درد، مدیریت درد و نیاز به آموزش درد در دانشجویان مراقبت های بهداشتی-2021 Background: Pain is a common health problem in undergraduate students. Pain prevalence, pain management strategies and knowledge among healthcare groups has not been revealed yet.
Aim: This study explored pain prevalence, intensity, pain management strategies, knowledge, and education in undergraduate students specializing in healthcare science. The findings will highlight the necessity for increasing pain management education in the university setting. Design: A questionnaire-based, cross-sectional study was conducted. Settings/ Participants: Data was collected from 1,490 university students in Tokyo between December 2015 and April 2016. A c square test was performed to examine differences in pain status and management strategies according to gender. We compared medical knowledge scores among disciplines using one-way analysis of variance. Results: In total, 511 (79.2%) students had experienced bodily pain during the preceding 6 months. Pain prevalence differed by gender. More nursing students had used both pharmacological and nonpharmacological methods for pain management than had students from other disciplines (p ¼ .011). Pain medication knowledge of students in other disciplines was low to moderate, with greater knowledge observed in medical students (p < .05). Conclusions: Education regarding pain management should be developed that considers differences among disciplines. Additionally, poor pain management knowledge could affect the quality of care students provide to patients after graduation. Enhancing pain management knowledge by providing suitable pain management education in universities may contribute to better pain management for students, and this may translate to their work in clinical settings. |

Development and validation of INTENSS, a need-supportive training for nurses to support patients self-management
توسعه و اعتبار سنجی های آمیز، آموزش نیازمندی برای پرستاران برای حمایت از خود مدیریت بیماران-2021 Background: The growing prevalence of chronic illnesses requires nurses to support self-management and help
patients integrate the chronic illness into their life. To our knowledge there are currently no training programs
that combine the necessary components to adequately enhance nurses competencies in self-management
support.
Objective: The systematic development and validation of a need-supportive training in self-management support
for nurses.
Design: A three-phased study, according to van Meijel et al. (2004), with collection of building blocks, design, and
validation of the need-supportive character of the training.
Setting and participants: Eight training groups with 30 nurses, 34 nursing students and nine social healthcare
workers from different nursing colleges in Flanders, Belgium.
Methods: In phase one a literature review, current practice analysis, and problem and needs analysis were per-
formed. In phase two, the INTENSS training intervention was developed, framed within the Self-Determination
Theory and the 5A’s-Model. The training consisted of a basic training module and a video-interaction guidance
module. The intervention was subsequently tested in eight training groups (N = 73). Participants provided
feedback during focus group discussions. The intervention was cyclically adapted to trainees experiences and
suggestions. In phase three, we evaluated the need-supportive character of the training intervention.
Results: Phase one indicated the need for training, since nurses application of self-management support was
limited and practiced from a narrow medical point of view. In phase two we developed a theory-driven and
multifaceted training, building on attitude, knowledge, skills and reflection in the training. The training was
framed within the Self-Determination Theory both at the didactical level as well as on content and format.
Overall, participants appreciated the building blocks of the training as supporting their basic needs for auton-
omy, relatedness and competence.
Conclusions: INTENSS, a multifaceted need-supportive training in self-management support was developed,
successfully taking into account participants needs. keywords: توسعه مداخله | آموزش | تحصیلات | نظریه خود تعیین | پشتیبانی از خود مدیریت | مراقبت های بهداشتی | پرستاری | بیماری مزمن | Intervention development | Training | Education | Self-determination theory | Self-management support | Health care | Nursing | Chronic illness |

Utilizing courageous dialogue to support minority and disadvantaged background nursing students
استفاده از گفتگوی شجاعانه برای حمایت از دانشجویان اقلیت و محروم پرستاری-2020 Background: Nursing students from historically underrepresented ethnic minorities and disadvantaged background
(HUREM-DB) groups often face barriers such as a lack of consistent financial resources, fewer professional
role models, bias, and micro-inequities. Utilizing a multifaceted approach for support can be crucial to
enhancing student success.
Purpose of the project: MENTORS2 mitigates some of the challenges for HUREM-DB nursing students with educational,
cultural, social, and financial resources. Courageous dialogue (CD) was one required activity of
MENTORS2 and included topics such as stress management, time management, and honors project preparation.
Implementation of the project: Courageous dialogue sessions were conducted with 56 HUREM-DB undergraduate
nursing students enrolled in a baccalaureate program. The number of evaluations submitted for a session
averaged 17 (range 7–36). Courageous dialogue sessions allowed students to express views in a safe environment
with opportunities for peer support, role modeling, open discussion, and problem solving.
Project outcomes: Student evaluations reflected an appreciation of the opportunity to share experiences and learn
new skills, knowledge, and approaches to aid their success in nursing school and perhaps their entry into the
profession of nursing.
Conclusion: Courageous dialogue can be an important part of a comprehensive strategy to support HUREM-DB
nursing students academically, socially, and professionally. Keywords: Courageous dialogues | Disadvantaged background | Ethnic minority | Nursing student |

Organ Donation Related With Attitude Toward the Law of Presumed Consent: Spanish University Medical and Nursing Students Study
اهدای عضو مرتبط با نگرش به قانون رضایت احتمالی: مطالعه دانشجویان پزشکی و پرستاری دانشگاه اسپانیا-2020 Information provided by health care professionals is crucial to create a
climate of social opinion. This is important in organ donation and transplantation (ODT),
where the participation of the general public is essential to obtain organs.
Objective. To determine the attitude toward the Law of Presumed Consent (LPC) among
Spanish university students and to analyze their relation with attitude toward ODT.
Methods. and design. The type of study was a sociologic, multicenter, observational
study. The population included medical and nursing students in Spanish universities.
Database of Collaborative International Donor Project was used stratified by geographic
area and academic course. A validated questionnaire (Collaborative International Donor
Project, organ donation and transplantation questionnaire in Spanish [PCID-DTO-RIOS])
was self-administered and completed anonymously. A sample of 9598 medical and 10,566
nursing students was analyzed (99% confidence and precision of 1%) and stratified by
geographic area and year of study.
Results. Completion rate was 90%. Regarding attitude toward LPC, 66% of the students
were against the law, whereas 34% accepted it. Of the students surveyed, 9% considered
the law as a gesture of solidarity, 25% as an effective way of not wasting organs, 48% as an
abuse of power, and 18% as offenses against the family. Those students who were in favor
of LPC also had a more favorable attitude toward ODT (86% vs 76%; P < .001).
Comparing groups, nursing students were less in favor of LPC than medical students (32%
vs 36%; P < .000).
Conclusion. Sixty-six percent of Spanish university medical and nursing students were
against the LPC. The favorable attitude toward ODT is associated with considering the law
as a gesture of solidarity or as an effective way of not wasting organs. |

Uncovering cyberincivility among nurses and nursing students on Twitter: A data mining study
کشف فضای مجازی در بین پرستاران و دانشجویان پرستاری در توییتر: مطالعه داده کاوی-2019 Background: Although misuse of social networking sites, particularly Twitter, has occurred, little is known about
the prevalence, content, and characteristics of uncivil tweets posted by nurses and nursing students.
Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of tweets posted by nurses and nursing
students on Twitter with a focus on cyberincivility.
Method: A cross-sectional, data-mining study was held from February through April 2017. Using a data-mining
tool, we extracted quantitative and qualitative data from a sample of 163 self-identified nurses and nursing
students on Twitter. The analysis of 8934 tweets was performed by a combination of SAS 9.4 for descriptive and
inferential statistics including logistic regression and NVivo 11 to derive descriptive patterns of unstructured
textual data.
Findings: We categorized 413 tweets (4.62%, n=8934) as uncivil. Of these, 240 (58%) were related to nursing
and the other 173 (42%) to personal life. Of the 163 unique users, 60 (36.8%) generated those 413 uncivil posts,
tweeting inappropriately at least once over a period of six weeks. Most uncivil tweets contained profanity
(n=135, 32.7%), sexually explicit or suggestive material (n=37, 9.0%), name-calling (n=14, 3.4%), and
discriminatory remarks against minorities (n=9, 2.2%). Other uncivil content included product promotion,
demeaning comments toward patients, aggression toward health professionals, and HIPAA violations.
Conclusion: Nurses and nursing students share uncivil tweets that could tarnish the image of the profession and
violate codes of ethics. Individual, interpersonal, and institutional efforts should be made to foster a culture of
cybercivility. Keywords: Civility | Cyberincivility | Education | Incivility | Nurses | Nursing | Nursing students | Social media | Social networking sites | Twitter |
