In order to explore the potential of profit margin improvement, a novel three-scale integrated optimization model of furnace simulation, cyclic scheduling, and supply chain of ethylene plants is proposed and evaluated. A decoupling strategy is proposed for the solution of the three-scale model, which uses our previously proposed reactor scale model for operation optimization and then transfers the obtained results as a parameter table in the joint MILP optimization of plant-supply chain scale for cyclic scheduling. This optimization framework simplifies the fundamental MINLP into several sub-models, and improves the interpretability and extendibility. In the evaluation of an industrial case, a profit increase at a percentage of 3.25% is attained in optimization compared to the practical operations. Further sensitivity analysis is carried out for strategy evolving study when price policy, supply chain, and production requirement parameters are varied. These results could provide useful suggestions for petrochemical enterprises on thermal cracking production.

2 Predictive scheduling of wet flue gas desulfurization system based on reinforcement learning

With the development of renewable energy, loads of thermal power units fluctuate, resulting in the trade- offbetween the frequent switching of auxiliary equipment and the economic-emission benefits in the wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system. In this paper, the predictive scheduling problem is formalized, considering the power consumption, emission punishment and the switching frequency of slurry circula- tion pumps with finite prediction sequence of load and sulfur in coal. Model-free off-policy reinforcement learning (RL) is applied to solve the unclear and drifting system dynamic. Considering a real system, the framework setting and an emulator is introduced. Compared with traditional scheduling policies and the case without prediction, the proposed framework shows obvious advantages in terms of comprehensive performance and approximates the theoretical optimal solution at the steady-state. Moreover, the policy keeps the performance by adapting to the drifting without manual intervention, which demonstrates a broad application prospect in similar scenarios.

3 Traffic system operation optimization incorporating buffer size

This paper presents a general framework for resolving resource utilizations conflicts of air traffic system, expressed in the form of a max-plus linear model. The general air traffic system optimization model is presented taking into account buffer size in view of different purposes. The proposed air traffic system model is very flexible and it is extensible focusing on distinct circumstances. The dynamics of air traffic systems is characterized through the occurrence of discrete events such as aircrafts entering or leaving sub-segments. We focus on input control of air traffic system modeled by max-plus algebra by controlling the inflow of aircraft into the system. The constraints between input variables, state variables and output variables were obtained. The proposed method aims to minimize system total delay to meet demand specifications, allowing the air traffic controller to obtain the best control policy, which delays the occurrence of input events or varying input rate of system resources. Through simulations we verify the performance of the proposed max-plus linear model control scheme.
