1 Epsilon-Nets, Unitary Designs, and Random Quantum Circuits
Epsilon-nets and approximate unitary t-designs are natural notions that capture properties of unitary operations relevant for numerous applications in quantum information and quantum computing. In this work we study quantitative connections between these two notions. Specifically, we prove that, for d dimensional Hilbert space, unitaries constituting δ-approximate t-expanders form -nets for t d5/2 and δ 3d/2 d2. We also show that for arbitrary t, -nets can be used to construct δ-approximate unitary t-designs for δ t, where the notion of approximation is based on the diamond norm. Finally, we prove that the degree of an exact unitary t design necessary to obtain an -net must grow at least as fast as 1 (for fixed dimension) and not slower than d2 (for fixed ). This shows near optimality of our result connecting t-designs and nets. We apply our findings in the context of quantum computing. First, we show that that approximate t-designs can be generated by shallow random circuits formed from a set of universal twoqudit gates in the parallel and sequential local architectures considered in (Brandão et al., 2016). Importantly, our gate sets need not to be symmetric (i.e., contains gates together with their inverses) or consist of gates with algebraic entries. Second, we consider compilation of quantum gates and prove a nonconstructive Solovay-Kitaev theorem for general universal gate sets. Our main technical contribution is a new construction of efficient polynomial approximations to the Dirac delta in the space of quantum channels, which can be of independent interest.]

2 Generalized Perfect Codes for Symmetric Classical-Quantum Channels
We define a new family of codes for symmetric classical-quantum channels and establish their optimality. To this end, we extend the classical notion of generalized perfect and quasi-perfect codes to channels defined over some finite dimensional complex Hilbert output space. The resulting optimality conditions depend on the channel considered and on an auxiliary state defined on the output space of the channel. For certain N -qubit classical-quantum channels, we show that codes based on a generalization of Bell states are quasi-perfect and, therefore, they feature the smallest error probability among all codes of the same block length and cardinality.

3 A supply chain model with service level constraints and strategies under uncertainty
In the current socio-economic situation, the daily demand for essential goods in the business sector is always changing owing to various unavoidable reasons. As a result, choosing the right method for profitable business has become quite tricky. This study introduces different business strategies based on constant and fuzzy demands. There are two types of constraints considered in this model to avoid the backorder cost. However, combining the service-level constraints with the constant and fuzzy demand, this study compares the total costs, and finally, the best strategy is established. Moreover, investing a small amount, this model improves the quality of the products and reduces the vendor’s setup cost. Depending on the number of transported products, this model follows the transportation discount policy for hassle-free delivery of the products with a minimum delivery rate. The Kuhn-Tucker optimization technique is employed, and global optimality is verified numerically, analytically using the Hessian matrix. This model’s robustness is discussed through a comparative study, numerical examples, sensitivity analysis, graphical representation, and managerial insights. Finally, some concluding remarks along with future extensions are discussed.

4 Development of a closed-loop supply chain system with exponential demand and multivariate production/remanufacturing rates for deteriorated products
This article introduces a Closed-Loop Supply Chain Model for Deteriorated Goods. The model is generated for an exponentially growing demand rate based on time and multivariate output and remanufacturing rates. Based on demand and the amount of inventory, we consider the production and remanufacturing rates. The end user receives buyback items and the rate of return is perceived to be linearly time depen- dent. In order to investigate optimized solution for the prescribed model, it has been formulated mathematically. Finally, to illustrate the case, a numerical analysis and sensitivity analysis would be provided.© 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. 5 Perishable material sourcing and final product pricing decisions for two-echelon supply chain under price-sensitive demand
This paper considers a single product supply chain involving a producer/processor and a retailer. The producer/ processor procures and processes perishable materials such as fruits and milk whose demand are often price- sensitive. We model the dyadic relationship as a Stackelberg game to understand how product perishability and the price-sensitive demand of such products can influence the procurement, production, and sale. The producer/processor is the leader and decides on the processing time of the materials and the wholesale price of the product to maximize profit. The retailer as the follower decides on the sale price of the product and order quantity to maximize profit under a price-sensitive demand setting. Propositions and lemmas for optimality are posed, and the model is validated numerically. Our results suggest that the retailer’s profit cannot be worse than the producer/processor under a price elastic demand. With a high deterioration rate or shrinkage, the producer/ processor should improve the storage conditions or processing capacity within certain constraints for better overall supply chain profitability. Finally, both the producer/processor and the retailer need to consider the price sensitivity of consumers when making pricing decisions.

6 Testing the effectiveness of consumer financial disclosure: Experimental evidence from savings accounts
While popular with policymakers, most evidence on consumer financial disclosure’s effectiveness studies borrowing decisions (where optimality is unclear) or lab experiments (where attention is not scarce). We provide field evidence from randomized controlled trials with 124,000 savings account holders at five UK depositories. Treated consumers were disclosed varying degrees of salient information about alternative products, including one with their current provider strictly dominating their current product. Despite switching taking roughly 15 minutes and the moderate average potential gains ($190/year), switching is rare across disclosure designs and depositors. We find pessimistic beliefs drive disclosure inattention and limit disclosure’s effectiveness, helping explain deposit stickiness. -

7 Optimal trajectory design accounting for the stabilization of linear time-varying error dynamics
This study is dedicated to the development of a direct optimal control-based algorithm for trajectory optimization problems that accounts for the closed-loop stability of the trajectory tracking error dynamics already during the optimization. Consequently, the trajectory is designed such that the Linear Time-Varying (LTV) dynamic system, describing the controller’s error dynamics, is stable, while additionally the desired optimality criterion is optimized and all enforced constraints on the trajectory are fulfilled. This is achieved by means of a Lyapunov stability analysis of the LTV dynamics within the optimization problem using a time-dependent, quadratic Lyapunov function candidate. Special care is taken with regard to ensuring the correct definiteness of the ensuing matrices within the Lyapunov stability analysis, specifically considering a numerically stable formulation of these in the numerical optimization. The developed algorithm is applied to a trajectory design problem for which the LTV system is part of the path-following error dynamics, which is required to be stable. The main benefit of the proposed scheme in this context is that the designed trajectory trades-off the required stability and robustness properties of the LTV dynamics with the optimality of the trajectory already at the design phase and thus, does not produce unstable optimal trajectories the system must follow in the real application.

8 Deep reinforcement learning based energy management for a hybrid electric vehicle
This research proposes a reinforcement learning-based algorithm and a deep reinforcement learningbased algorithm for energy management of a series hybrid electric tracked vehicle. Firstly, the powertrain model of the series hybrid electric tracked vehicle (SHETV) is constructed, then the corresponding energy management formulation is established. Subsequently, a new variant of reinforcement learning (RL) method Dyna, namely Dyna-H, is developed by combining the heuristic planning step with the Dyna agent and is applied to energy management control for SHETV. Its rapidity and optimality are validated by comparing with DP and conventional Dyna method. Facing the problem of the “curse of dimensionality” in the reinforcement learning method, a novel deep reinforcement learning algorithm deep Qlearning (DQL) is designed for energy management control, which uses a new optimization method (AMSGrad) to update the weights of the neural network. Then the proposed deep reinforcement learning control system is trained and verified by the realistic driving condition with high-precision, and is compared with the benchmark method DP and the traditional DQL method. Results show that the proposed deep reinforcement learning method realizes faster training speed and lower fuel consumption than traditional DQL policy does, and its fuel economy quite approximates to global optimum. Furthermore, the adaptability of the proposed method is confirmed in another driving schedule.

9 Principled reward shaping for reinforcement learning via lyapunov stability theory
Reinforcement learning (RL) suffers from the designation in reward function and the large computational iterating steps until convergence. How to accelerate the training process in RL plays a vital role. In this paper, we proposed a Lyapunov function based approach to shape the reward function which can effec- tively accelerate the training. Furthermore, the shaped reward function leads to convergence guarantee via stochastic approximation, an invariant optimality condition using Bellman Equation and an asymp- totical unbiased policy. Moreover, sufficient RL benchmarks have been experimented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. It has been verified that our proposed method substantially accel- erates the convergence process as well as improves the performance in terms of a higher accumulated reward.

10 Algorithmic portfolio tilting to harvest higher moment gains
Many financial portfolios are not mean-variance-skewness-kurtosis efficient. We recommend tilting these portfolios in a direction that increases their estimated mean and third central moment and decreases their variance and fourth central moment. The advantages of tilting come at the cost of deviation from the initial optimality criterion. In this paper, we show the usefulness of portfolio tilting applied to the equally-weighted, equal-risk-contribution and maximum diversification portfolios in a UCITS-compliant asset allocation setting.
