The interplay between social capital and international opportunities_ A processual study of international ‘take-off’ episodes in Chinese SMEs
تعامل میان سرمایه اجتماعی و فرصت های بین المللی- یک مطالعه فرایندی بین المللی قسمت "برداشتن" در SME های چینی-2017 The paper presents a processual analysis of international take-off episodes in Chinese SMEs. In considering the
dynamics of pre-internationalization, the paper posits four temporally finer-grained, phases based on an actors
orientation towards international opportunities. Based on a sample of twenty Chinese SMEs, the paper theorizes
12 temporally fine-grained take-off episodes, or which appear in practice as a series of tactical moves through
which Chinese SMEs advance through the four phases in the longer pre-internationalization of the process. By
considering the multi-dimensional nature of social capital in international take-off, the findings contribute to a
greater understanding of how forming international relationships work in the context of pre-internationalization
in SMEs, also adding insights into the dynamics of internationalization as an entrepreneurial and networked
endeavour.

Cyber-security in government: reducing the risk
امنیت سایبری در دولت: کاهش خطر-2017 and human behaviour, thus providing a
clearer picture to make improvements.
Are devices accurately encrypted? Is the
same security clearance given across all
IT systems? How can visibility of the
devices used by employees improve?
These are just a few areas where an audit
can provide clarity to an organisation.
BYOD seems a natural solution for
SMEs to gain the mobility and accessibility they require to successfully compete.
But to truly gain the full potential from
BYOD, organisations must understand
the security threat that comes with it.
This understanding must run through the
entire hierarchy of an organisation and
combating it must be seen as a collective
effort rather than being left to the IT team
to deal with. Solutions such as COPE and
MDM all serve to improve the clarity of
the devices used and address the security
challenges with these.
Placing BYOD as an SME business
priority will also need to be equally
matched by cyber-security enforcement;
considering cyber-security as an afterthought will only lead to further complications for SMEs down the line.

Is there a gender effect on the cost of bank financing?
آیا تأثیر جنسیتی بر هزینه تأمین مالی بانک وجود دارد؟-2017 In this paper, we address the question of whether the gender of a firm’s leader affects the cost of bank
funding faced by small and medium enterprises in Europe. Using a large sample of observations of non
financial firms, during the years 2009–2013, we empirically test for the presence of discrimination,
comparing female-led and male-led firms. After controlling for a rich set of variables and addressing
potential endogeneity, our results show that i) female-led enterprises are more likely to face worse price
conditions for bank financing compared to their male-led counterparts and, ii) firms whose leadership
changes from female to male are more likely to benefit from an improvement in interest rate levels. This
evidence is robust to different model specifications and various methodological approaches. The existence
of such bias in the credit markets highlights the need of policy measures addressing female-led businesses,
thus reducing their bank financing burdens and enhancing their entrepreneurial opportunities.

The impact of SMEs’ lending and credit guarantee on bank efficiency in South Korea
تأثیر وام های SME و تضمین اعتبار در بهره وری بانک در کره جنوبی-2017 This study examines how small and medium-size enterprises’ (SMEs’) lending and credit guarantee affect Korean banks’ efficiency, by employing
the stochastic frontier approach on 14 banks over the period 2001–2010. When lending increases to SMEs, the findings indicate that banks’ cost
efficiency decreases due to information asymmetry. However, the increased proportion of credit guarantee can improve their cost efficiency. This
proves that South Korea’s credit guarantee system can indeed share SMEs’ credit risk of lending in order to help raise bank efficiency.

Relationship banking and bankruptcy resolution in Spain: The impact of size
رابطه بانکداری و حل ورشکستگی در اسپانیا: تاثیر اندازه-2017 Within the framework of asymmetric information, the present work has the aim of analysing the influence
of relationship banking in bankruptcy resolution, with particular reference to firm size. The obtained
results, from a sample of 622 micro- and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) non-financial and
unlisted firms that filed for bankruptcy in 2010 (resolved by the end of 2014), allow us to conclude that:
(1) SMEs are more likely to survive than micro firms; (2) the number of relationships banking is not
relevant; (3) maintaining relations with one of the big banks, especially the largest bank in a country,
increases the likelihood of reorganization, as opposed to liquidation.

The participation of new technology-based firms in EU-funded R&D partnerships: The role of venture capital
مشارکت شرکت های جدید مبتنی بر تکنولوژی در شراکت های R&D بودجه اتحادیه اروپا : نقش سرمایه گذاری-2016 This paper investigates the participation of new technology-based firms (NTBFs) in EU-funded R&D
partnerships. We examine whether venture capital (VC)-backed firms are more likely to enter these partnerships than their non VC-backed peers and the role of the ownership and governance of the VC investor.
We resort to a mixed method approach. We use qualitative information collected through interviews with
managers of NTBFs and VC firms to better illustrate our deductively derived theoretical hypotheses, that
are then tested through a large scale econometric analysis. The econometric analysis takes advantage
of the VICO dataset, which includes longitudinal data on 8346 NTBFs from seven European countries
observed from 1995 to 2008, out of which 758 were VC-backed. The econometric results show that VC
backing has a strong positive impact on NTBFs’ participation in EU-funded R&D partnerships, but the
magnitude of this effect rapidly decreases with NTBFs’ prior experience of this type of partnership. Moreover, the magnitude of the impact of VC backing considerably differs depending on the type of investor
with bank and government VC exhibiting the strongest positive effects.

Bridging science and technology through academic–industry partnerships
پل علم و فن آوری از طریق مشارکت صنعت علمی-2016 Article history:Received 18 August 2014Received in revised form 15 July 2015 Accepted 21 July 2015Keywords:Economic development Technological change and growth Technological changeResearch and development Government policyPartnerships that foster the translation of scientific advances emerging from academic research orga- nizations into commercialized products at private firms are a policy tool that has attracted increased interest. This paper examines empirical data from the Danish National Advanced Technology Founda- tion, an agency that funds partnerships between universities and private companies. We assess the effect on participating firms’ innovative performance, comparing patent count, publication count and propor- tion of cross-institutional publications between funded and unfunded firms. Specifically, we measure the impact on each of these variables based on three dimensions – small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), younger firms, and size of the collaboration firms participated in – to establish boundary condi- tions. Our results suggest that receiving funding affects firms’ innovative behavior differently depending on the type of firm, where (1) peer-reviewed publications increased significantly more for SMEs and larger projects, (2) granted patents increased significantly up to 4 years after funding for young firms and those in larger projects, and (3) proportion of cross-institutional publications increased significantly more 3 years after funding for all three sample specifications.© 2015 Elsevier B.V. A model for effective planning of SME support services
مدل برای برنامه ریزی موثر از خدمات پشتیبانی SME-2016 This paper presents a model for effective planning of support services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The idea is to scrutinize and measure the suitability of support services in order to give recommendations for the improvement of a support planning process. We examined the applied support services and matched them with the problems and needs of SMEs, based on the survey conducted in 2013 on a sample of 336 SMEs in Serbia. We defined and analysed the five research questions that refer to support services, their consistency with the SMEs’ problems and needs, and the relation between the given support and SMEs’ success. The survey results have shown a statistically significant connection between them. Based on this result, we proposed an eight-phase model as a method for the improvement of support service planning for SMEs. This model helps SMEs to plan better their requirements in terms of support; government and administration bodies at all levels and organizations that provide support services to understand better SMEs’ problems and needs for support.© 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
