1 3PL firm’s equity financing for technology innovation in a platform supply chain
Technologies have been driving improvements in logistics and transportation. Focusing on a third-party logistics (3PL) firm’s technology innovations supported by external equity financing, we examine how the innovations can benefit the supply chain, and how the supply chain members should respond with coordinated operational decisions. More specifically, we consider a platform supply chain where a supplier sells a single product on an online platform provided by a retailer, and then hires a 3PL firm for transportation services. The 3PL firm may choose to raise capital through equity financing from external financial institutions, which can be used to support technology innovations to reduce the transportation cost. The financing decision of the 3PL in- teracts with operational decisions of the platform supply chain via possible cost savings. We start with investigating the supply chain coordination by characterizing the optimal operational decisions of the three firms under any given equity financing strategy. Acting non-cooperatively, the 3PL firm and the online retailer first determine the freight charge and revenue sharing respectively, in light of which the supplier’s decision on the retail price. We then move to the 3PL firm internally and derive the optimal equity financing strategy. Our analytical results show that the supply chain efficiency is dependent on the cost allocation between the retailer and the other two firms, but independent of the cost allocation between those two firms. It is also revealed that the original shareholders of the 3PL firm always have a chance to benefit from an appropriate financing strategy, and the optimal financing strategy may depend discontinuously on supply chain parameters. Finally, we check the robustness of our model and show that all key findings remain unchanged when relaxing the deterministic cost reduction to an uncertain one.

2 Biomass supply chain coordination for remote communities: A game-theoretic modeling and analysis approach
Biomass, as one of the most available renewable energies, could reduce dependency on fossil fuels and the consequent environmental impacts. There is a need for biomass supply chain management, which is managing bioenergy production from harvesting feedstock to energy conversion facilities. In case of remote communities, bioenergy adoption requires dealing with dispersed geographies of suppliers and places of consumption with small scales of energy demand. As such, coordination plays a key role in increasing the efficiency of the biomass supply chain network through bundling of demand and thus improving the economy of scale. This paper employs a game-theoretic approach to formulate a coordinated biomass supply chain with three echelons including suppliers, hubs, and energy convertors. To investigate the strategic interactions of participants, three decision making structure scenarios have been considered under Stackelberg game providing insights into the impact of power distribution, the role of side payments in enforcing the flow of decisions, and the resulting efficiency and performance improvements. In doing so, a case study bioenergy supply chain for three northern Canadian communities is explored to demonstrate the application of the proposed formulation, solution methods, and the practicality and significance of the adopted approach and outcomes for remote communities.

3 Dynamic decision and coordination in a low-carbon supply chain considering the retailers social preference
We establish dynamic game models in a low-carbon supply chain consisting of a single manufacturer and a single retailer with social preference. This study investigates the complex dynamic characteristics of pricing decision and carbon abatement strategy in the supply chain and focuses on the impact of the retailer’s social preference on pricing decision, carbon emission abatement strategy, profits, supply chain coordination, and complexity of dynamic models. We find that adjustment parameters of pricing and carbon emission abatement should be maintained in a certain range; otherwise, the system will be unstable and even chaotic through period double bifurcation or wave shape chaos. A higher social preference of the retailer is always beneficial to carbon abatement and the manufacturer and helps maintain the stability of the supply chain system. However, the impact on the long-term profitability of the supply chain is related to the state of the system. Compared with the setting of a centralized decision, the optimal carbon abatement strategy and supply chain profit in a decentralized decision are always less than those in a centralized setting, regardless of whether the retailer has social preference. Therefore, a side-payment self-executing contract is designed to coordinate the supply chain and achieve Pareto improvement. The coordination mechanism proposed in this study not only leads to Pareto improvement but also increases the stability of the supply chain system. Finally, this study enlightens management in operating a low-carbon supply chain.

4 Recycling channel selection and coordination in dual sales channel closed-loop supply chains
The implications of dual sales channels (direct and traditional retail channels) and closedloop supply chains (CLSCs) have been well recognized in the literature and in practice. In this study, we explore the reverse channel choice for the manufacturer and the design of coordination mechanisms in CLSCs in the midst of dual competitive sales channels. We consider three recycling channel structures: manufacturer collecting (Model M), retailer collecting (Model R) and third-party collecting (Model C) structures. We present the following findings. The manufacturer and the retailer obtain more profits in Model M and Model R, respectively. However, from the perspective of the supply chain system, either the M model or the R model could be optimal depending on the following parameters: channel competition intensity between the direct and retail channels, collection costs and remanufacturing cost savings. Furthermore, we show that a simple price contract that consists of the wholesale price, direct channel price and transfer price of the used product (in Model R and Model C), with a complementary profit sharing mechanism can effectively coordinate dual-channel CLSCs under different recycling channel structures.

5 A hybrid modeling approach for green and sustainable closed-loop supply chain considering price, advertisement and uncertain demands
The closed-loop supply chain network design (CLSCND) has garnered a lot of attention since it can handle economic and environmental issues. Likewise, supply chain coordination (SCC) tools can play an important role in enhancing the performance of the supply chains. This paper proposes a new hybrid method, in which SCC decisions and CLSCND objectives are simultaneously involved. First, this approach makes price, greenness, and advertisement decisions, and then it aims at maximizing profit and minimizing CO2 emission. A new nonlinear programming (NLP) model is developed based on the sensitivity of the return rate to green quality and the customers’ maximum tolerance, while the demands are uncertain. In order to overcome the uncertain demands, a robust optimization (RO) model is used. A Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is also employed to solve large-scale instances in a logical running time. The applicability of the proposed approach is corroborated through several examples. The results indicate an improvement in the performance of economic and environmental objectives under greening and advertising decisions. Furthermore, the proposed RO model outperforms the model that does not consider a robust approach.

6 An agent-based approach for project-driven supply chain problem under information asymmetry and decentralized decision-making
In a project-driven supply chain, the project schedule and material supply influence one another. The effective decision-making process between the project manager and the suppliers can promote the flexibility and competitiveness of supply chains. However, due to their incompatible objectives, the suppliers are reluctant to disclose private information. By incorporating information asymmetry, we build a model to describe the decentralized decision-making process. The project manager does not know the lead time and the production/ transportation cost of the material suppliers accurately. To build an effective alliance in the supply chain, different contracts are considered to provide a positive or negative incentive for the suppliers, including a non- financial incentive contract with continuous orders. Then, we present a framework that integrates the agent- based approach and evolutionary algorithm. In the framework, the agents not only negotiate with each other to complete a solution but also jointly evaluate the solutions generated by the evolutionary algorithm. Finally, an experiment is conducted to compare the agent-based approach and the classical NSGA-II under information symmetry. The results show that the gap between the algorithms is acceptable, especially for a large project. The results also show that the non-financial incentive contract is beneficial to all the players in the supply chain.

7 Negotiation-sequence, pricing, and ordering decisions in a three-echelon supply chain: A coopetitive-game analysis
We investigate a three-echelon supply chain in which a distributor at the middle echelon negotiates two wholesale price contracts with his upstream manufacturer and downstream retailer. In the first stage, the distributor decides on whether to first negotiate with the manufacturer or with the retailer; in the second (combined, noncooperative-cooperative, game) stage, the two negotiations are conducted sequentially. We find that the supply chain can be coordinated if the distributor first negotiates with the retailer. The distributor should choose the negotiation sequence for supply chain coordination, if he has a sufficiently large (small) relative bargaining power in the negotiation with the manufacturer (the retailer). We also extend our analysis to the cases in which the distributor and the manufacturer negotiate a buyback or two-part tariff contract, and draw similar outcomes when the distributor first negotiates with the retailer. In addition, under the two-part tariff contract, the distributor prefers to first negotiate with the retailer if the manufacturer has a sufficiently high disagreement payoff whereas, under the buyback contract, the distributor always prefers to first negotiate with the firm with a stronger bargaining power. Moreover, the two-part tariff (buyback) contract cannot (can) always coordinate the supply chain.

: Influenza vaccine supply chains are subject to yield and demand uncertainty, which leads to the mismatch between supply and demand. This paper studies the production and procurement decisions in the influenza vaccine supply chain consisting of a manufacturer facing uncertain production yield and a social planner who faces uncertain demand and is responsible for social infection costs. We develop a novel model framework considering the risks resulting from uncertainties on both supply and demand sides that the manufacturer may delay part of delivery and the social planner may order under or over demand. Based on the framework, we first discuss the production and procurement decision-making problem in a centralized and a decentralized system. By comparing the two systems, we present the existence and extent of the inefficiency in the influenza vaccine supply chain. Further, we propose a procurement strategy that provides the social planner with two ordering opportunities and explore the conditions under which the two members would be willing to accept the strategy. The results show that such a strategy is effective on improving the influenza vaccine supply chain coordination. Additionally, considering large-scale outbreaks of influenza epidemics, we extend the models with a piecewise linear infection probability function to those with a generic one and describe the characteristics of the extended models and their solutions.

9 Dual-channel supply chain coordination considering targeted capacity allocation under uncertainty
This paper investigates a dual-channel supply chain (SC) composed of a manufacturer and retailer in which the manufacturer confronts random yield issues. Since supply uncertainty may lead to a production shortage, the manufacturer faces the problem of allocating the products to traditional/online channels. To address this problem, a novel product-allocation policy is developed in which the limited supply is allocated to traditional and online channels under a flexible strategy called “targeted capacity allocation”. In order to coordinate the proposed decentralized channel, a two-part tariff contract is suggested. Furthermore, opening a direct channel besides brick-and-mortar stores is discussed through analytical results. Then, the effectiveness of the targeted capacity allocation policy is investigated by comparing the results of the current model with a case, in which, the same policy is not applied. By doing so, some interesting managerial insights on the merit of applying the capacity allocation policy in managing dual-channel SCs under yield uncertainty are revealed. Finally, numerical analysis shows that the proposed contract can perfectly coordinate the SC and achieve the Pareto improving solution for both partners.

10 Retailer-run resale market and supply chain coordination
This study proposes strategies for full coordination of a supply chain when the retailer enables buyers not only to return their product after inspection but also to resell it as used at the store after partial consumption. In recent years, mega-retailers have added resale service to their conventional business of selling new products, which is called the retailer-run resale market. Prior literature shows from the retailer’s perspective that the ultimate motive for running resale business is to reduce the volume of consumers’ product returns. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies on the retailer’s resale business from the manufacturer’s perspective. We adopt a manufacturer’s perspective and derive strategies to motivate retailers to make decisions for the benefit of the entire supply chain in the presence of the retailer-run resale market using five commonly used types of contracts: revenue-sharing, buybacks, quantity flexibility, quantity discount, and two-part tariff. Ongoing digitalization and web security in retailing have provided a convenient environment for online transactions, which have emerged as a supply chain and become a staple for many shoppers. However, growing popularity of online shopping inevitably increases the volume of product returns because it lacks an opportunity to experience the product before purchase. Thus, an increasing number of online retailers have adopted a resale business unilaterally to reduce consumer returns. The study provides strategic guidelines for a manufacturer to induce such retailers to make decisions for joint profit maximization.
