1 Soldiers dont go mad: Shell shock and accounting intransigence in the British Army 1914-18

This research examines intransigence in accounting systems. Using historical research methods and archival sources, it explores intransigence in the Royal Army Medical Corps’ accounting systems in the context of the incidence of shell shock among British Army soldiers fighting at the battlefront during the First World War. The Army did not recognise shell shock as a medical condition and made few changes to its medical accounting systems for soldiers with shell shock. The four factors of system stability of the AGIL scheme (adaptation, goal attainment, integration, latency) are used to understand the limited medical accounting response to shell shock. This research indicates that in addition to historical and internal political reasons for intransigence, intransigence will occur unless a factor in the AGIL scheme is sufficiently impaired to make the accounting system unstable and force system change. This research finding has contemporary relevance, explaining accounting intransigence in response to issues of social concern.

2 Determinants of the management learning performance in ERP context

Management learning poses some challenges, firstly students should identify all administration areas and sec- ondly, they should understand the big picture of an organizational context, by integrating all the studied areas. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are the backbone of any organization, in terms of information management systems integration. The usage of these systems is important in terms of management in any or- ganization, and ERPs can facilitate the management learning process. The main objectives of this study are to understand if the ERP usage supports management learning, and to identify the main determinants of individual performance. This study presents a success model of ERP usage for learning management context. The model was validated empirically through a survey answered by university management students. The results show that system quality, process quality, and training play a determinant role in the students performance.

3 Engaging vulnerable populations in drug treatment court: Six month outcomes from a co-occurring disorder wraparound intervention

Objective: Although drug treatment courts (DTCs) have demonstrated positive outcomes, participants with co- occurring mental health and substance use disorders (CODs) are a high-risk group that often struggle with treatment engagement not previously examined. This pilot study fills this gap by looking at six-month behavioral health and criminal justice outcomes among a hard to engage DTC COD participant sample in two Massachusetts DTCs receiving a wraparound-treatment (Maintaining Independence and Sobriety through Systems Integration, Outreach, and Networking-Criminal Justice - MISSION-CJ).Methods: Participants were evaluated at baseline and at six-month follow-up. Bivariate analyses examined baseline differences between clients with higher versus low engagement were examined. A mixed analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures with time as the within subject factor, and level of engagement as the between subject factor was performed for criminal justice (CJ) and behavioral health outcomes.Results: Participants were primarily male (86.6%), White (90.6%), living in unstable housing (86.2%), had an average of 18.94 years of criminal justice involvement, had an average of 15.49 years of regular illicit substance use, and mild mental health symptoms as measured by the BASIS-32 average total score (0.51), with no sta- tistically significant differences at baseline from bivariate analyses. Mixed ANOVA results demonstrated signif-icant effect time of time in MISSION-CJ on reducing nights in jail (p = 0.0266), opioid use (p = 0.0013), andmental health symptom (p = 0.0349). Additional improvements in nights in jail p = 0.0139), illicit substance use (p = 0.0358), and opioid use (p = 0.0013), were observed for clients that had high engagement in MISSION-CJ.Conclusions: Wraparound services, such as MISSION-CJ, alongside DTC programming for a chronic relapsing DTC population can improve engagement in treatment and CJ and behavioral health outcomes. Future research is needed with MISSION-CJ that includes a randomized trial and a larger sample.

4 Measuring the impact of enterprise integration on firm performance using data envelopment analysis

Today, with rapidly developing technology and changing business models, organizations face rapid changes in both internal and external environments. To be able to rapidly respond to such changing environments, integration of software systems has become a top priority for many organizations. However, despite extensive use of software systems integration, quantitative methods for estimating the business value of such integrations are still missing. Using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the microeconomic concept of marginal rates, this study proposes a method for quantifying the effects of enterprise integration on the firm performance. In the paper, we explain how DEA can be used to evaluate the marginal benefits of enterprise integration. Our proposed method is to measure and compare the productive efficiency of firms using enterprise integration, specifically by relating the benefits produced to the resources consumed in the process. The method is illustrated on data collected from 12 organizations. The defined method has a solid theoretical foundation, eliminating the need for a priori information about the relationship between different measures. Furthermore, the framework could be used not only to quantify the business value of enterprise integration, but also to estimate trade-offs and impacts of other subjective managerial goals on the results. The major limitation of the proposed method is the absence of a comprehensive theory relating IT architecture changes to organizational outcomes. The underlying model is strongly dependent on the relevancy and accuracy of the included variables, as well as number of data units, introducing uncertainties to the outcomes of the model.

5 Ontology-Based Web Service Architecture for Retail Supply Chain Management

Service-oriented computing (SOC) technologies provide numerous opportunities and value-added service capabilities that global retail business requires to remain competitive in the market. Initiative to semantic web service provision is playing a crucial role to realize the possibility of heterogenous information systems integration in supply chain. The ability to dynamically discover and invoke a web service is an important aspects of semantic web service-based architecture. An essential part of the service discovery process is the ontology-based semantic web service matchmaking algorithm. This paper presents the key features of an improved matchmaking algorithm to calculate the similarity between concepts on ontology for semantic web service. The matchmaking is taking place in the context of OWL-S (Ontology Web Language for Services) based retail sales management. The paper describes the Semantic Web Service Architecture-II (SWSA-II), which uses a hybrid knowledge-based system; and it consists of Structural Case-Based Reasoning (S-CBR), Rule-Based Reasoning (RBR), and an ontological concept similarity assessment algorithm. Finally, a business scenario is used to demonstrate the functionality of the algorithm.

6 Toward integration of Big Data, technology and information systems competencies into the accounting curriculum

Recent initiatives of the American Accounting Association (AAA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB) have emphasized the impor tance of integrating Big Data and technology into the accounting curriculum. In response to these calls and to identify a common body of instructional resources toward this purpose, our paper uses the lens of the Competency Integration for Accounting Education frame work to provide examples of Big Data and information systems integration into instruc tional resources. We loosely frame these instructional resources using accounting course subjects as the unit of analysis.

شرکت های کوچک و متوسط فناوری محور به عنوان ضرورتی برای اقتصاد و فعالیت تجاری شناخته شده اند. هدف از این مقاله بررسی نحوه روند نوآوری تکنولوژیکی در شرکت های کوچک و متوسط فناوری محور واقع در منطقه شهری دره پارایا و ساحل شمالی - برزیل است. چارچوب نظری مورد استفاده از شش مدل از نوآوری تشکیل شده است: فشار تکنولوژی، کشش بازار، روند نوآوری فرایند ترکیبی، فرآیند ادغام کارکردی، ادغام سیستمها و روند نوآوری شبکه و نوآوری باز است. در این تحقیق، مطالعات موردی چندگانه با یک رویکرد کیفی مورد استفاده قرار گرفت. داده ها با استفاده از مصاحبه های نیمه رسمی با مدیران مالک جمع آوری شد. نمونه شامل چهار شرکت کوچک و متوسط فن آوری محور در منطقه کلان شهر دره پارایبا و ساحل شمالی - برزیل بود. در تجزیه و تحلیل داده ها، به منظور بررسی شباهت ها و تفاوت های مورد نظر، یک تحلیل درونی و متقابل وجود داشت. در نتیجه مشاهده مدل های نوآوری توسعه یافته توسط شرکت ها، به نظر می رسد که این مدل به آنچه در مدل تعامل زنجیره ای پیشنهاد شده است نزدیک تر است. توسعه نوآوری بستگی به نوع فعالیت اقتصادی انجام شده توسط شرکت و تعاملات آن با محیط داخلی و خارجی دارد. ما به این نتیجه رسیدم که شرکت های کوچک و متوسط تکنولوژی محور ، به صورت سیستماتیک نوآور نیستند، بلکه به طور مستقیم و به طور کامل بر ایده های بنیانگذاران خود متمرکز می شوند. آنها نوآوری را برای تطبیق با الزامات مشتریان و نیازهای مشاهده شده در بازار در نظر می گیرند. شکل گیری مشارکت ها هنوز هم توسط رهبران و صاحبان در نظر گرفته شده است.

With the rapid advancement of information and communication technologies, particularly Internet and Web-based technologies during the past 15 years, various systems integration and collaboration technologies have been developed and deployed to different application domains, including architecture, engineering, construction, and facilities management (AEC/FM). These technologies provide a consistent set of solutions to support the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of information through the entire product and project lifecycle, and further to integrate people, processes, business systems, and information more effectively. This paper presents a comprehensive review of research literature on systems integration and collaboration in AEC/FM, and discusses challenging research issues and future research opportunities.
