Rapid changes that are taking place in the urban environment have significant impact on urban growth. Most cities and urban regions all over the world compete to increase resident and visitor satisfaction. The growing requirements and rapidity of introducing new technologies to all aspects of residents’ lives force cities and urban regions to implement "smart cities" concepts in their activities. Real estate is one of the principal anthropogenic components of urban environment thus become a subject of thorough multidisciplinary analysis in the field of data requiring spatial information systems. Recent advances in information technology, combined with the increased availability of high-resolution imagery from Earth observation, create an opportunity to use new sources of data that enable to identify, monitor, and solved many of urban environmental problem. The aim of the paper is to elaborate precise, complete and detailed property information with the use of remote sensing observations in a suitable numerical algorithm. The authors concentrate on providing one of the most important, and probably the most lacking, feature describing properties – building usable floor area (BUFA). The solution is elaborated in the form of an automatic algorithm based on machine learning and computer vision technology related to LiDAR (big data), close range images with respect to spatial information systems requirements. The obtained results related to BUFA estimation in comparison to the state-of-the-art results are satisfactory and may increase the reliability of decision-making in investment, fiscal, registration and planning aspects.

2 Does service type influence satisfaction?: A case study of Edinburgh Castle

Tourism sites often use interpretation to communicate their meaning and influence visitor satisfaction. However, few studies have explored the relationship between satisfaction and different interpretive service types. This study investigated the relationship between prior knowledge and satisfaction with interpretive service types at a highly visited UNESCO World Heritage Site. An onsite self-administered questionnaire collected data from English speaking tourists visiting Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. Respondents self-identified their primary interpretive service type used during their visitor experience. Results reveal visitor satisfaction differed among guided, audio-guided, and self-guided interpretation. Specifically, those primarily using their own personal resources had greater satisfaction than those who took an interpretive guided tour or read exhibits and signs. Additionally, findings identified visitors derive visit satisfaction through interpretive resources not supplied by the site. Implications for tourism management and interpretation services are discussed, along with opportunities for future research.

3 Contemplating museums’ service failure: Extracting the service quality dimensions of museums from negative on-line reviews

Museums are important attractions in contemporary cultural tourism, which has brought them economic benefit as well as managerial challenges. Museums mandate of custodianship and curatorial and educational focus on tangible artifacts and facilities has been diverted to and augmented by the intangible memories, emotions, and experiences of visitors and tourists. Identifying museum service failures from social media is complementary to, rather than a contradiction of, museum visitor satisfaction assessment. This study, through adoption of interdisciplinary literature, has extracted twelve service qualities— assurance, reliability, responsiveness, tangibles, empathy, communication, consumables, convenience, servicescape, purposiveness, contemplation, and first-hand experience—as grounds for contemplating conception and operation of museum tourism as well as consumer-based museum servicescapes.

4 Impact of government policy and environment quality on visitor loyalty to Taiwan music festivals: Moderating effects of revisit reason and occupation type

Tourists' repeat patronage is a prerequisite for sustainable festivals. Past studies have examined tourist cognition, affection, and conation to festivals. Government involvement in festivals has increased during the past decade; however, few studies have examined how government policy and environment quality influence visitor loyalty to festivals. Using sample data collected from 931 visitors during spring music festivals held in Southern Taiwan, this study used a structural equation model (SEM) with latent variables to examine these influences. The results suggest that government policy positively influences perceived environment quality, visitor satisfaction, and loyalty to festivals. Furthermore, the results from a multigroup SEM approach reveal that tourists' revisit reason (revisit festival versus other) and occupation type (student versus nonstudent) moderate the relationships between government policy and festival loyalty. Implications on festival planning and government policymaking are discussed.© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

5 Facilitating reef tourism management through an innovative importance-performance analysis method

This study presents a quantitative analysis of visitor satisfaction and its relation to tourism attributes on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. It applies a modified version of the importance-performance analysis to determine various attributes’ range of impact on, and asymmetrical contribution to, visitor satisfaction. The analysis of 369 visitor surveys identified a complex relationship between satisfaction and environ mental, operational and customer service attributes. It also identified those attributes which have a strong satisfaction-generating potential when they perform well, such as the diversity of the marine life, interactions with other passengers, comfort of the boat, quality of the entertainment, knowledgeable crew, quality of the information provided and the destination of the trip, and attributes with a high dissatisfaction-generating potential when they perform poorly, e.g. customer service, comfort of the trip, weather, quality of the coral, and cost of the trip. The study also considers the use of attribute-based studies of satisfaction within protected-area tourism and the management of visitor experiences.
