1 Internet of energy-based demand response management scheme for smart homes and PHEVs using SVM

The usage of information and communication technology (ICT) in the power sector has led to the emergence of smart grid (SG). The connected loads in SG are able to communicate their consumption data to the grid using ICT and thus forming a large Internet of Energy (IoE) network. However, various issues such as–increasing demand–supply gap, grid instability, and deteriorating quality of service persist in this network which degrade its performance. These issues can be handled in an efficient way by managing the demand response (DR) of different types of loads. For this purpose, cloud computing can be leveraged to gather the data generated in IoE network and perform analytics to manage DR. Working in this direction, a novel scheme to handle the DR of smart homes (SHs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) is presented in this paper. The proposed scheme is based on analyzing the demand of these users at the cloud server for flattening the overall load profile of grid. This scheme is divided into two hierarchical stages which work as follows. In the first stage, the residential and PHEV users are identified whose demands can be regulated. This task is achieved with the help of a binary-class support vector machine (SVM) which uses Gaussian kernel function to classify these users. In the next stage, the load in SHs is curtailed on the basis of a pre-defined rule-base after analyzing the consumption data of various devices; whereas PHEVs are managed by controlling their charging rates. The efficacy of proposed scheme has been tested on PJM benchmark data and Open Energy Information dataset. The simulation results prove that the proposed scheme is effective in maintaining the overall load profile of SG by managing the DR of SHs and PHEV users.

3 A unified framework for big data acquisition, storage, and analytics for demand response management in smart cities

With an increased usage of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the smart cities, the data generated from different smart devices has increased manifolds. This data is heterogeneous in nature which varies with respect to time and exhibits the properties of all essential V’s for big data. Therefore, to handle such an enormous amount of data, various big data processing techniques are required. To cope up with these issues, this paper presents a tensor-based big data management technique to reduce the dimensionality of data gathered from the Internet-of-Energy (IoE) environment in a smart city. The core data is extracted out of the gathered data by using tensor operations such as-matricization, vectorization and tensorization with the help of higher-order singular value decomposition. This core data is then stored on the cloud in the reduced form. After reducing the dimensionality of data, it is used for providing many services in smart cities; and its application to provide demand response (DR) services has been discussed in this paper. For this purpose, support vector machine (SVM)-based classifier is used to classify the end users (residential and commercial) into normal, overloaded and underloaded categories from the core data. Once such users are identified to take part in DR mechanism, utilities then generate commands to handle their DR in order to alter load requirements so that the overall load is optimized. Results obtained on Open Energy Information and PJM dataset clearly indicate the supremacy of the proposed tensor-based scheme over the traditional scheme for DR management.

4 An integrative model of information security policy compliance with psychological contract: Examining a bilateral perspective

Organizations are trying to induce employees to comply with information security policy (ISP) as organizational damage of information breach incidents gets serious. Many previ ous approaches to ISP compliance have focused on security technologies. However, researchers in this area agree that technology approach is not sufficient so that other approaches such as behavioral and social are required. This study suggests the integrated research model including ISP compliance antecedents and psychological contract fulfillment. The study in vestigates the mediating effect of psychological contract fulfillment between perceived costs and ISP compliance intention comparing supervisor and supervisee groups.The results show that psychological contract fulfillment can mitigate the negative effect of costs on ISP com pliance intention in supervisor group. Employees also anticipate complying with ISP when they recognize the benefits of ISP compliance. This study could shed more lights on the ISP compliance area by integrating and examining ISP compliance research model with psy chological contract as a social factor.
