11 Are social incubators different from other incubators? Evidence from Italy
This paper defines and analyses incubators that mainly support start-ups with a significant social impact. In 2016, a survey was conducted on the 162 incubators active in Italy, and a total of 88 responses were received. An analysis of the literature and of this dataset led to the identification of three types of incubators: Business, Mixed, and Social. Thirty of the respondents sent information on their tenants. Thanks to the data regarding 247 tenants, it was possible to analyze the impact of the three different types of incubators (Business, Mixed, and Social) on the tenants’ growth through OLS regression analyses. A Social Incubator is here defined as an incubator that supports more than 50% of start-ups that aim to introduce a positive social impact. The study shows that Social Incubators perceive social impact measurement and training/consulting on business ethics and CSR as being more important services than other incubator types. The regression analyses explain that Social Incubators are as efficient as other incubators, in terms of tenants’ economic growth, notwithstanding the focus of Social Incubators on start-ups that do not pursue only economic objectives. Finally, this study indicates that policy- makers can foster Social Incubators to support social entrepreneurship.

12 The institutional analysis of CSR: Learnings from an emerging country
This paper presents an explanation of why and how institutional arrangements influence the practice of CSR in Pakistan. The authors conduct in-depth interviews with CSR managers; national regulators; and, members of CSR promoting institutions. Our findings suggest that Pakistani CSR is largely found to be in support of charities and donations. Family traditions and religion are primary drivers for the adoption of CSR followed by the influence of peer pressure. Additionally, limited regulative pressures were attributed to the current ambiguity surrounding corporate regulation in Pakistan. This paper contributes to the literature on CSR by identifying internal drivers of CSR praxis.

13 Board of director attributes and CSR engagement in emerging economy firms: Evidence from across Asia
This study investigates the relationship between the board of director attributes and corporate social responsibility (CSR) engagement across a sample of Asian emerging economy firms. We find a statistically positive relationship between CSR engagement and several directors’ attributes including their political influence, international experience, business expertise, other director- ships held and independence from management. These empirical results indicate that while corporate governance recommendations designed for developed economy firms are relevant for emerging economy firms, additional director attributes are also important in encouraging CSR engagement in emerging economy firms given the divergent institutional and resource de- pendency issues they face.

15 The role of leadership in shared value creation from the public’s perspective: A multi-continental study
Porter and Kramer’s concept of creating shared value (CSV) has been welcomed as an approach to corporate social responsibility (CSR) among corporations that also provides a practical opportunity for dialogue in public relations, but it has been little examined from the general population’s (i.e., the public’s) perspective. Such scrutiny is important because its findings enable public relations to contribute to the debate and development of CSV from both the public’s and the organization’s viewpoints. Additionally, if public relations professionals understand how the public perceives CSV, they can give a strategic perspective to top management for maximizing moral capabilities of the business and formulate effective communication to promote CSV initiatives. This study investigates whether the public prefers corporations to practice CSV as opposed to intrinsic CSR as a separate pursuit from business interests. It also explores the role of leadership as an influential and ethical construct in implementing effective CSV as perceived by the public. The public’s preference for CSV over in trinsic CSR was revealed in a survey of 1784 participants in the United States (US), Germany, and China. Factor analysis results further suggested that effective CSV competencies of CEOs were construed as a unidimensional concept in the US, but German and Chinese participants viewed it as two-dimensional. The public perceived that leaders’ moral character played a more important, core role in effective CSV than did altruistic and behavioral attributes, across nations. Network analysis of the perceived effective CSV-characteristics provides further implications for CSV communication.

16 Exploring global retailers corporate social responsibility performance
Retailers serve as the main interface between business and society. This study explores the Corporate Social Responsibility priorities and performance of the largest 23 global retailers. This set of global retailers, who have a major impact on society, were studied in terms of social, environmental and sustainability practices and strategy, and there performance was analysed and evaluated. The study uses a four-dimensional Social, Economic, Envi- ronmental, Supply Chain model for sustainability performance evaluation. We rely on data collected from annual reports, and find that global retailers have addressed the business-society interface in relatively balanced ways for the different dimensions of CSR. Further, our findings indicate that global retailers in different regions have different CSR priorities. In particular, the data indicates that the US retailers place a lower priority on supply chain sustainability performance, followed by the Australians, while European retailers place a higher priority. The study concludes that while global retailers all pay attention to the same dimensions of CSR and do so differently in the different regions, the variation and lack of significant progress indicates that there is a role for stronger government regulation. This study contributes to the literature by shifting the analysis from country to a global level, is more objective in relying on reported data rather than interviews or surveys and provides a new analytical tool.

17 Using Machine Learning for predicting area and Firmware metrics of hardware designs from abstract specifications
Advancements of Machine Learning (ML) in the field of computer vision have paved the way for its po- tential application in many other fields. Researchers and Hardware domain experts are exploring possible applications of Machine Learning in optimizing many aspects of the Hardware development process. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for predicting area and multiple Firmware metrics of Hardware components from specifications. The flow uses an existing RTL generation framework for gen- erating valid data samples that enable ML algorithms to train the learning models. The approach has been successfully employed to predict the area and Firmware measurements of real-life Hardware components such as Control and Status Register (CSR) interfaces, that are ubiquitous in embedded systems. With our method we are able to perform an estimation on the area of an Hardware component with more than 98% accuracy and 600 x faster than the existing methods. In addition, we are able to rank the features according to their importance in final area estimations. Finally, we are as well able to predict with an accuracy of approx. 85% the size and the CPU running cycles of a Firmware program embedded on the same Hardware component. This method, as a whole, is an important approach towards an accurate and fast estimation in the context of Hardware/Software trade-offanalysis.

18 Statistical characterization and classification of colon microarray gene expression data using multiple machine learning paradigms
Objective: A colon microarray data is a repository of thousands of gene expressions with different strengths for each cancer cell. It is necessary to detect which genes are responsible for cancer growth. This study presents an exhaustive comparative study of different machine learning (ML) systems which serves two major purposes: (a) identification of high risk differential genes using statistical tests and (b) development of a ML strategy for predicting cancer genes. Methods: Four statistical tests namely: Wilcoxon sign rank sum (WCSRS), t test, Kruskal–Wallis (KW), and F-test were adapted for cancerous gene identification using their p-values. The extracted gene set was used to classify cancer patients using ten classifiers namely: linear discriminant analysis (LDA), quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA), naïve Bayes (NB), Gaussian process classification (GPC), support vector ma- chine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT), Adaboost (AB), and random forest (RF). Performance was then evaluated using cross-validation protocols and standard- ized metrics viz. accuracy (ACC) and area under the curve (AUC). Results: The colon cancer dataset consists of 20 0 0 genes from 62 patients (40 cancer vs. 22 control). The overall mean ACC of our ML system using all four statistical tests and all ten classifiers was 90.50 %. The ML system showed an ACC of 99.81% using a combination WCSRS test and RF-based classifier. This is an improvement of 8% over previously published values in literature. Conclusions: RF-based model with statistical tests for detection of high risk genes showed the best per- formance for accurate cancer classification in multi-center clinical trials.

19 Corporate Social Responsibility and financial performance: A comparative study in the Sub-Saharan Africa banking sector
There is a growing interest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), both in the professional and academic fields. Building on the Stakeholder theory, this study examines the impact of voluntary CSR disclosure on Financial Performance (FP) in the Sub-Saharan banking sector by comparing the top-ranked banks in Mozambique and the Republic of South Africa. This study applied content analysis to assess the Corporate Social Responsibility dimensions and the general measure of FP such as Return on Asset (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE), which are published in the annual reports in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Based on a panel data covering the period of 2012e2016, this study regresses FP on CSR disclosure and found a significant and positive relationship between FP and CSR disclosure, suggesting that CSR behavior is helpful to improve the performance of banks. The findings indicate that the Republic of South Africa banks are slightly over performing Mozambican banks, and the Republic of South Africa banks are disclosing more information regarding CSR than Mozambican banks. Also, the influence of the positive CSR disclosure index is much stronger than that of the negative CSR disclosure index on improving FP. In practical terms, it is believed that the voluntary report on CSR commitment could help the banking sector to improve its FP. The evidence from the study can help regulators and investors to understand the banks business practices in these two countries.

20 Effects of corporate social responsibility on employees in the casino industry
The current study examines CSR issues in the casino context from employees perspectives, especially due to the essential role of employees for business success in service industries. This study first investigates the main effect of employees perceived CSR on organizational commitment, mediated by job satisfaction. This study further explores this mediated relationship by incorporating employees perceptions of the casino industry as a moderator, based on social identity theory which appears particularly well-suited to support the proposed moderating effect in the casino context due to the industrys controversial nature. The results support the proposed hypotheses, making theoretical and managerial implications, especially with the finding of employees perceptions of the casino industry as a new and significant moderator. Such finding also makes a managerial contribution by suggesting the importance of creating and/or improving employees general perceptions about the casino industry which will eventually help to enhance the employees commitment to their organization.
