Development of an Undergraduate Quantum Engineering Degree
توسعه یک مدرک کارشناسی مهندسی کوانتوم-2022 Quantum computing, communications, sensing, and simulations are radically transformative
technologies, with great potential to impact industries and economies. Worldwide, national governments,
industries, and universities are moving to create a new class of workforce—the Quantum Engineers. Demand
for such engineers is predicted to be in the tens of thousands within a five-year timescale, far exceeding the
rate at which the world’s universities can produce Ph.D. graduates in the discipline. How best to train this
next generation of engineers is currently a matter of debate. Quantum mechanics—long a pillar of traditional
physics undergraduate degrees—must now be merged with traditional engineering offerings. This article
discusses the history, development, and the first year of operation of the world’s first undergraduate degree
in quantum engineering to be grown out of an engineering curriculum. The main purpose of this article is
to inform the wider discussion, now being held by many institutions worldwide, on how best to formally
educate the Quantum Engineer.

Assessing the Needs of the Quantum Industry
ارزیابی نیازهای صنعت کوانتومی-2022 Background: Quantum information science and
technology (QIST) has progressed significantly in the last decade,
such that it is no longer solely in the domain of research labs,
but is now beginning to be developed for, and applied in, industrial applications and products. With the emergence of this new
quantum industry, a new workforce trained in QIST skills and
knowledge is needed.
Research Questions: To help support the education and training of this workforce, universities and colleges require knowledge
of the type of jobs available for their students and what skills
and degrees are most relevant for those new jobs. What are these
jobs, skills, and degrees?
Methodology: We report on the results from a survey of 57
companies in the quantum industry, with the goal of elucidating the jobs, skills, and degrees that are relevant for this new
workforce.
Findings: We find a range of job opportunities from highly
specific jobs, such as quantum algorithm developer and error
correction scientist, to broader jobs categories within the business, software, and hardware sectors. These broader jobs require
a range of skills, most of which are not quantum related.
Furthermore, except for the highly specific jobs, companies that
responded to the survey are looking for a range of degree levels
to fill these new positions, from bachelors to masters to Ph.D.s.
Contribution: With this knowledge, students, instructors, and
university administrators can make informed decisions about
how to address the challenge of increasing the future quantum
workforce.

Examining the internet of educational things adoption using an extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology
بررسی پذیرش اینترنت از اشیا آموزشی با استفاده از یک نظریه یکپارچه گسترده پذیرش و استفاده از فناوری-2022 The purpose of this study is to examine the adoption of IoT applications for educational purposes
by focusing on students’ perspectives. To validate the internet of educational things (IoET) ap-
plications’ acceptance and usage, the main constructs of UTAUT2 theory were integrated with
innovativeness and social support constructs. This study adopts a quantitated study method and
examined empirically through smart PLS-SEM software, an online questionnaire is established
and disseminated to Taibah university students. Results revealed that social support, facilitated
conditions, innovativeness, and effort expectancy of UTAUT2 constructs had the strongest effect
on IoET applications’ acceptance and usage respectively. Whereas performance expectancy, and
perceived usefulness had the weakest effect on IoET adoption respectively. On the other hand, the
relationship between perceived ease of use and IoET behavioral intention were not supported
because of insignificant relationships. The results demonstrated in this study potentially assist the
universities to understand the main determinists of using IoET applications acceptance and usage
from students’ perspectives to integrate the IoT concept in teaching and learning. keywords: اینترنت اشیا آموزشی | حمایت اجتماعی | نوآوری | عربستان سعودی | Internet of educational things | UTAUT2 | Social support | Innovativeness | Saudi Arabia |

Building a Quantum Engineering Undergraduate Program
ساخت برنامه کارشناسی مهندسی کوانتومی-2022 Contribution: A roadmap is provided for building a
quantum engineering education program to satisfy U.S. national
and international workforce needs.
Background: The rapidly growing quantum information science and engineering (QISE) industry will require both quantumaware and quantum-proficient engineers at the bachelor’s level.
Research Question: What is the best way to provide a flexible
framework that can be tailored for the full academic ecosystem?
Methodology: A workshop of 480 QISE researchers from
across academia, government, industry, and national laboratories
was convened to draw on best practices; representative authors
developed this roadmap.
Findings: 1) For quantum-aware engineers, design of a
first quantum engineering course, accessible to all STEM students, is described; 2) for the education and training of
quantum-proficient engineers, both a quantum engineering minor accessible to all STEM majors, and a quantum track directly
integrated into individual engineering majors are detailed, requiring only three to four newly developed courses complementing
existing STEM classes; 3) a conceptual QISE course for implementation at any postsecondary institution, including community
colleges and military schools, is delineated; 4) QISE presents
extraordinary opportunities to work toward rectifying issues
of inclusivity and equity that continue to be pervasive within
engineering. A plan to do so is presented, as well as how quantum engineering education offers an excellent set of education
research opportunities; and 5) a hands-on training plan on quantum hardware is outlined, a key component of any quantum
engineering program, with a variety of technologies, including
optics, atoms and ions, cryogenic and solid-state technologies,
nanofabrication, and control and readout electronics.

Effect of a theory-driven educational intervention on the level of knowledge, attitudes, and assessment practices regarding breakthrough cancer pain (BTCP) management among medical nurses in Hong Kong
تأثیر مداخله آموزشی مبتنی بر تئوری بر سطح دانش، نگرش ها و شیوه های ارزیابی در مورد مدیریت سرطان پیشرفته (BTCP) در پرستاران پزشکی در هنگ کنگ-2021 Purpose: To examine the effect of an educational intervention intended to improve medical nurses’ adherence to
breakthrough cancer pain (BTCP) assessment practices and their level of knowledge, attitudes and perceived
assessment practices regarding BTCP management.
Methods: Nurses working in a regional hospital were recruited to this quasi-experimental study. The intervention
group received a 3-h educational workshop and one session of individual clinical instruction, whilst the control
group did not receive any intervention. Chart audits were performed to examine adherence to BTCP assessment
practices as the primary outcome. A self-developed questionnaire was used to measure nurses’ knowledge, at-
titudes and perceived assessment practices regarding BTCP management as the secondary outcomes. The chi-
square or Fisher’s exact test was used to compare the rate of adherence to BTCP assessment practices between
groups. A generalised estimating equation was used to compare changes in knowledge, attitudes, and perceived
assessment practices between groups over time.
Results: One hundred and five nurses completed the study. The chart audits revealed a significantly higher rate of
adherence to BTCP assessment practices in the intervention group after the intervention (p < .05). The inter-
vention group exhibited significant positive changes in scores for knowledge (β = 25.49, p < .001), attitude (β =
0.98 to 2.81, p < .01), and their perceived assessment practices (β = 1.33 to 3.14, p < .002) when compared with
the control group.
Conclusions: This theory-driven educational intervention significantly improved the medical nurses’ adherence to
BTCP assessment practices and their level of knowledge attitudes and perceived assessment practices regarding

Three-month follow-up effects of a medication management program on nurses’ knowledge
اثرات پیگیری سه ماهه یک برنامه مدیریت دارو در دانش پرستاران-2021 This quasi-experimental study examined the effects of a medication management program on nurses knowledge
of medication management, three months after program completion. Fifty-seven nurses took a multiple-choice
test both immediately after the program and three months later. Changes in test performance were assessed
using McNemar’s test and generalized estimating equations for binary outcomes. Test results were generally
consistent from immediately post-program to three months later, though four items differed significantly. From
immediately post-program to three months later, fewer nurses correctly answered the items: documenting no
medication administration (98.2 vs 86.6, p = 0.04); documenting opioid administration (56.1 vs 33.3, p = 0.01); and
observation after opioid administration (35.1 vs 19.3, p = 0.08. Significantly more nurses correctly answered the
item concerning the pharmacology of medication administered with food (64.9 vs 77.2, p = 0.09). We recom-
mend both continuous medication management training and focusing on the correspondence between theory-
based knowledge and clinical practice routines. keywords: پرستار بیمارستان | برنامه آموزشی | مدیریت دارو | دانش | Hospital nurse | Education program | Medication management | Knowledge |

Comparative educational outcomes of an active versus passive learning continuing professional development activity on self-management support for respiratory educators: A non-randomized controlled mixed-methods study
نتایج آموزشی مقایسهای فعالیت توسعه حرفهای مستمر یادگیری فعال در مقابل غیرفعال بر حمایت خودمدیریتی از مربیان تنفسی: یک مطالعه با روشهای ترکیبی کنترلشده غیرتصادفی-2021 Aim: We compared educational outcomes associated with an active vs. passive continuing professional development activity on self-management support for respiratory educators.
Background: There is a need to identify learning activities associated with the most successful continuing professional development programs for respiratory educators.
Design: This was a non-randomized controlled mixed-methods study recruiting respiratory educators attending a
continuing professional development activity on self-management support.
Methods: In the experimental group, active learning methods (role-play simulations) were employed, whereas
passive learning methods (lecture) were used in the comparison group. Educators were allocated to the comparison group (first 15 months of the study), then to the experimental group (last 17 months). Educators filled
questionnaires measuring pre-/post-activity knowledge about self-management support (score 0–25) and selfreported competence (score 1–10). Scores were compared using mixed-effect models. Interviews with educators were conducted and content analysis was performed.
Results: We recruited 94/94 educators (active: n = 51; passive: n = 43). Knowledge scores increased to a greater
extent in the active vs. passive learning group (adjusted difference-in-difference [aDID]=2.01; 95% confidence
interval [95%CI]: 0.14–3.88), although competence scores increased to a greater extent in the passive learning
group (aDID=− 0.38; 95%CI: − 1.56 to − 0.04). Reflecting on their competence, educators of the active learning
group identified the need to further improve their self-management support skills, whereas educators of the
passive learning group did not.
Conclusions: Our results show that an active learning continuing professional development activity on selfmanagement support could help educators to better apply knowledge and appears to engage them in a process of reflection on action.

Becoming a scholarly management practitioner – Entanglements between the worlds of practice and scholarship
تبدیل شدن به یک متخصص مدیریت علمی - درهم تنیدگی بین دنیای عمل و بورسیه-2021 Our contribution in this paper is to elucidate how doctoral education can enable professionals to
develop through an experiential pedagogy that is based on a theoretical model of scholarly
management practice. It will draw from our experience of designing and running a large online
DBA with participants from across the world. We present a model of Scholarly Management
Practice and explain how its use differentiates this approach to doctoral education from others in
that there is a clear focus on how holders of the DBA enact their management practice, charac-
terized by an orientation to problematization, inquiry, dialogue and critical reflection. We
describe the design and underlying theoretical and philosophical rationale for how the program
elements articulate together to stimulate the development of scholarly management practitioners.
The implications for teaching and learning are presented in the form of a description and ratio-
nale for the design of the program in its three stages. We illustrate the trajectory of potential
development as a doctoral practitioner through the vignette of one student’s journey. We also
reflect on the limitations and lessons learned of our own theorising and practice in the devel-
opment and delivery of this DBA. keywords: Doctoral education | Scholarly practice | Online learning | Management education | DBA |
