بسیاری از محققان تلاش کرده اند شرح دهند کدام عوامل بر مزیت رقابت آمیز پایدار تاثیر می گذارند. بدین منظور، این مقاله به ادبیات بازاریابی و مدیریت هتلداری افزوده و شواهد تجربی مبنی بر نحوه تاثیر سرمایه انسانی، توانایی بازاریابی پویا و پویایی بازار بر مزیت رقابت آمیز در بخش هتداری فراهم می سازد. داده های نظرسنجی مقطعی را از مدیران فروش و بازاریابی 165 هتل با مصاحبه مفصل در سه هتل واقع در کشورهای شورای همکاری خلیج مشتمل بر عربستان سعودی، قطر، امارات و بحرین جمع آوری کردیم. یافته ها نشان داد که سرمایه انسانی به طور مستقیم و غیرمستقیم از طریق توانمندی بازاریابی پویا نقش اساسی در گسترش مزیت رقابت آمیز ایفا می کند. برای مفهوم سازی این نقش، تحقیق ما نشان می دهد که پویایی بازار در رابطه بین سرمایه انسانی و مزیت رقابتی از طریق توانمندی بازار مداخله می کند. مفاهیم نظری و مدیریتی را برای گسترش مزیت رقابتی در بخش هتل مطرح می کنیم.

3 Know when to fold ‘em: An empirical description of risk management in public research funding

Public research funding programs typically make grants with minimal intervention by program staff, rather than using a hands-on approach to project management, which is more common in the private sector. In contrast, program staff at the US Department of Energys Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) are given a set of real options with which to manage funded projects: abandon, contract or expand project budgets or timelines. Using internal data from ARPA-E, we show that active project management enables risk mitigation across a portfolio of research projects. We find that program staff modify projects frequently, especially project timelines, and these changes are more sensitive to poor performance than to strong performance. We also find that projects with a shortened timeline or reduced budget are less likely to generate short-term research outputs, compared to those of ultimately similar size. This evidence suggests that the practice of active project management, when combined with high upfront risk tolerance, can be used to enhance the productivity of missionoriented public research funding.

4 Influencing factors on energy management in industries

Energy management has been considered in the global agenda as a way to improve energy performance and greenhouse gas reduction in organizations. Industries account for a significant part of energy use worldwide and present opportunities for energy efficiency improvements. Within the industry, energy management is a complex task, regarding scenarios with variables related to the following perspectives: economics, contingency, technological change and behavioural. This paper aims at analyzing the influencing factors on energy management in industries from these perspectives. A survey with 40 variables was carried out with middle managers from different industrial sectors in Brazil. The variables were divided into three groups: drivers for investments in energy efficiency; organizational processes and actions in energy management; involvement of middle managers. Initially, an exploratory factor analysis technique was employed aiming at specifying the main factors influencing energy management. In the sequence, a confirmatory factor analysis was used to associate the variables to the main factors as well as to know how the factors relate to each other. The study showed a positive correlation among all the factors identified. Statistical tests suggested that the factors could not be explained separately. Hypotheses tests were applied to verify the influence of the factors among the groups surveyed. The final model comprised eight factors into the three groups: organizational (strategic, operational), involvement (motivation, support), drivers (production, economics, competitiveness, environment). The results and the main implications of the study are discussed in the paper.

5 Financing paths, firms’ governance and corporate entrepreneurship : Accessing and applying operant and operand resources in biotechnology firms

This study investigates the systemic relationship between financing paths used by early-stage biotechnology firms, the accessed resources, the subsequent reconfiguration of management and governance structures, and their effect on the level of corporate entrepreneurship. Adopting a qualitative methodology based on an inductive approach, in 2018 and 2019 we observed 12 UK biotechnology ventures that accessed private, corporate or crowdfunding equity investments. We collected primary data through open-ended and semi-structured interviews with CEOs and board members of these firms. Findings were interpreted applying a resource-based perspective, which unveiled the role and importance of operant and operand resources for organizational coordination and functioning. The way in which the controlled operant resources are used to improve the management and governance structures, and their functional interdependence, ultimately determines an optimal level of corporate entrepreneurship for effectively exploiting the accessed operand resources. The results provide useful insights regarding the systemic interdependence between financing paths, organizational resources, management team, governance bodies, and corporate entrepreneurship, that can enhance the understanding and performance of managers, shareholders and policy-makers involved in biotechnology business.

6 Planning water-energy-food nexus system management under multilevel and uncertainty

In this study, a multi-level interval fuzzy credibility-constrained programming (MIFCP) method is developed for planning the regional-scale water-energy-food nexus (WEFN) system. MIFCP can not only deal with uncertainties expressed as interval parameters and fuzzy sets, but also handle conflicts and hierarchical relationships among multiple decision departments. The MIFCP approach is then applied to planning the WEFN system of Henan Province, China. Solutions of three different decision targets in various hierarchy levels, five scenarios with different decision makers’ objectives and five credibility levels toward different necessity degrees are examined. Several findings in association with various planting structures, water resources demand, energy consumption, fertilizer and pesticide utilizations and system benefits are achieved. Results reveal that the future total irrigation water can decrease by 1.49% from years 2020e2025. Results also disclose that the total cultivated area can change by 1.91% owing to the variation of fertilizer and pesticide change. Compared to single level programming (SLP) and bi-level programming (BP) approaches, the MIFCP-WEFN model can help decision-makers identify the optimal agricultural water resources management schemes by means of the leadership of water resources managers as well as the feedback of two diverse followers (i.e. energy managers and agricultural managers).

7 Strengthening science, technology, and innovation-based incubators to help achieve Sustainable Development Goals : Lessons from India

Policymakers in developing countries increasingly see science, technology, and innovation (STI) as an avenue for meeting sustainable development goals (SDGs), with STI-based startups as a key part of these efforts. Market failures call for government interventions in supporting STI for SDGs and publicly-funded incubators can potentially fulfil this role. Using the specific case of India, we examine how publicly-funded incubators could contribute to strengthening STI-based entrepreneurship. Indias STI policy and its links to societal goals span multiple decades—but since 2015 these goals became formally organized around the SDGs. We examine why STI-based incubators were created under different policy priorities before 2015, the role of public agencies in implementing these policies, and how some incubators were particularly effective in addressing the societal challenges that can now be mapped to SDGs. We find that effective incubation for supporting STI-based entrepreneurship to meet societal goals extended beyond traditional incubation activities. For STI-based incubators to be effective, policymakers must strengthen the ‘incubation system’. This involves incorporating targeted SDGs in specific incubator goals, promoting coordination between existing incubator programs, developing a performance monitoring system, and finally, extending extensive capacity building at multiple levels including for incubator managers and for broader STI in the country.

8 Automatic underground space security monitoring based on BIM

Traditional underground space safety monitoring is ineffective as data continuity is weak, systematic and random errors are prominent, data quantification is difficult, data stability is scarce (especially in bad weather), and it is difficult to guarantee human safety. In this study, BIM technology and multi-data wireless sensor network transmission protocol, cloud computing platform are introduced into engineering monitoring, real-time online monitoring equipment, cloud computing platform and other hardware and software are developed, and corresponding online monitoring system for structural safety is developed to realize online monitoring and early diagnosis of underground space safety. First, the shape of the underground space, the surrounding environment, and various monitoring points are modeled using BIM. Then, the monitoring data collected from sensors at the engineering site are transmitted to the cloud via wireless transmission. Data information management is then realized via cloud computing, and an actual state-change trend and security assessment is provided. Finally, 4D technology (i.e., 3D model + time axis) that leverages a deformation chromatographic nephogram is used to facilitate managers to view deformation and safety of their underground spaces. To overcome past shortcomings, this system supports the management of basic engineering project data and storage of historical data. Furthermore, the system continuously reflects the fine response of each monitoring item under various working conditions all day, which has significant theoretical value and application.

9 Energy costs information in manufacturing companies: A systematic literature review

Accurate, detailed, and up-to-date information on energy costs is crucial for energy management in manufacturing companies. Yet, to what extent is such energy costs information actually available and used? This study reviews empirical information provided in papers published in research journals about the availability and use of energy costs information in manufacturing companies. The study aims to focus both on energy-intensive companies as well as non-energy-intensive companies, and also to distinguish between the practices of small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) vs. large companies. The literature review covers 23 journals in the fields of business, accounting, energy, and engineering, leading to the final sample that includes 51 papers for the analysis. Most studies in this sample concern energyintensive and large companies. The most striking result is that with only few exceptions, almost no studies provide a nuanced description of how measuring and allocating energy costs is being done. For example, almost no studies investigate specific cost allocation bases, the accuracy of cost allocations, or differentiation between first-stage allocation and second-stage allocation. Nevertheless, the overall impression is that many manufacturing companies resort to imprecise methods for measuring and allocating energy costs. They seem to lack much of the cost information necessary for energy management, such as information needed for improving energy efficiency, evaluating energy efficiency improvement investments, and holding managers accountable for energy efficiency.

10 Leading successful government-academia collaborations using FLOSS and agile values

Government and academia share concerns for efficiently and effectively servicing societal demands, which includes the development of e-government software. Government-academia partnerships can be a valu- able approach for improving productivity in achieving these goals. However, governmental and academic institutions tend to have very different agendas and organizational and managerial structures, which can hinder the success of such collaborative projects. In order to identify effective approaches to overcome collaboration barriers, we systematically studied the case of the Brazilian Public Software portal project, a 30-month government-academia collaboration that, using Free/Libre/Open Source Software practices and agile methods for project management, developed an unprecedented platform in the context of the Brazil- ian government. We gathered information from experience reports and data collection from repositories and interviews to derive a collection of practices that contributed to the success of the collaboration. In this paper, we describe how the data analysis led to the identification of a set of three high-level decisions supported by the adoption of nine best practices that improved the project performance and enabled professional training of the whole team.
