1 Exploring Potential Applications of Quantum Computing in Transportation Modelling
The idea that quantum effects could be harnessed to allow faster computation was first proposed by Feynman. As of 2020 we appear to have achieved ‘quantum supremacy’, that is, a quantum computer that performs a given task faster than its classical counterpart. This paper examines some possibilities opened up by potential future application of quantum computing to transportation simulation and planning. To date, no such research was found to exist, therefore we begin with an introduction to quantum computing for the programmers of transport models. We discuss existing quantum computing research relevant to transportation, finding developments in network analysis, shortest path computation, multi-objective routing, optimization and calibration – of which the latter three appear to offer the greater promise in future research. Two examples are developed in greater detail, (1) an application of Grover’s quantum algorithm for extracting the mean, which has general applicability towards summarizing distributions which are expensive to compute classically, is applied to an assignment or betweenness model - quantum speedup is elusive in the general case but achievable when trading speed for accuracy for limited outputs; (2) quantum optimization is applied to an activity-based model, giving a theoretically quadratic speedup. Recent developments notwithstanding, implementation of quantum transportation algorithms will for the foreseeable future remain a challenge due to space overheads imposed by the requirement for reversible computation.

2 A graphics-based digital twin framework for computer vision-based post-earthquake structural inspection and evaluation using unmanned aerial vehicles
Rapid structural inspections and evaluations are critical after earthquakes. Computer vision-based methods have attracted the interest of researchers for their potential to be rapid, safe, and objective. To provide an end-to-end solution for computer vision-based post-earthquake inspection and evaluation of a specific as-built structure, the concepts of physics-based graphics model (PBGM) and digital twin (DT) are combined to develop a graphics-based digital twin (GBDT) framework. The GBDT framework comprises a finite element (FE) model and a computer graphics (CG) model whose state is informed by the FE analysis, representing the state of the structure before and after an earthquake. The CG model is first created making use of the FE model and the photographic survey of the structure, yielding the virtual counterpart of the as-built structure quickly and accurately. Then damage modelling approaches are proposed to predict the location and extent of structural and nonstructural damage under seismic loading, from which photographic representation of the predicted damage is realized in the CG model. The effectiveness of the GBDT framework is demonstrated using a five-story reinforced concrete benchmark building through the design and assessment of various UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) inspection trajectories for post-earthquake scenarios. The results demonstrate that the proposed GBDT framework has significant potential to enable rapid structural inspection and evaluation, ultimately leading to more efficient allocation of scarce resources in a post-earthquake setting.

3 Ontological Approach for Semantic Modelling of Malay Translated Qur’an
This thesis contributes to the areas of ontology development and analysis, natural language processing (NLP), Information Retrieval (IR) and Language Resource and Corpus Development. Research in Natural Language Processing and semantic search for English has shown successful results for more than a decade. However, it is difficult to adapt those techniques to the Malay language, because its complex morphology and orthographic forms are very different from English. Moreover, limited resources and tools for computational linguistic analysis are available for Malay. In this thesis, we address those issues and challenges by proposing MyQOS,the Malay Qur’an Ontology System, a prototype ontology-based IR with semantics for representing and accessing a Malay translation of the Qur’an. This supports the development of a semantic search engine and a question answering system and provides a framework for storing and accessing a Malay language corpus and providing computational linguistics resources. The primary use of MyQOS in the current research is for creating and improving the quality and accuracy of the query mechanism to retrieve information embedded in the Malay text of the Qur’an translation. To demonstrate the feasibility of this approach, we describe a new architecture of morphological analysis for MyQOS and query algorithms based on MyQOS. Data analysis that consisted of two measures; precision and recall, where data was obtained from MyQOS Corpus conducted in three search engines. The precision and recall for semantic search are 0.8409 (84%) and 0.8043(80%), double the results of the question answer search which are 0.4971(50%) for precision and 0.6027 (60%) for recall. The semantic search gives high precision and high recall comparing the other two methods. This indicates that semantic search returns more relevant results than irrelevant ones. To conclude, this research is among research in the retrieval of the Qur’an texts in the Malay language that managed to outline state-of-the-art information retrieval system models. Thus, the use of MyQOS will help Malay readers to understand the Qur’an in better ways. Furthermore, the creation of a Malay language corpus and computational linguistics resources will benefit other researchers, especially in religious texts, morphological analysis and semantic modelling.

4 Annealing-based Quantum Computing for Combinatorial Optimal Power Flow
This paper proposes the use of annealing-based quantum computing for solving combinatorial optimal power flow problems. Quantum annealers provide a physical com- puting platform which utilises quantum phase transitions to solve specific classes of combinatorial problems. These devices have seen rapid increases in scale and performance, and are now approaching the point where they could be valuable for industrial applications. This paper shows how an optimal power flow problem incorporating linear multiphase network modelling, discrete sources of energy flexibility, renewable generation place- ment/sizing and network upgrade decisions can be formulated as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimisation problem, which can be solved by quantum annealing. Case studies with these components integrated with the ieee European Low Voltage Test Feeder are implemented using D-Wave Systems’ 5,760 qubit Advantage quantum processing unit and hybrid quantum- classical solver.

5 Analysing the inhibitors of complexity for achieving sustainability and improving sustainable performance of petroleum supply chain
In the era of business sustainability, the modern supply chain is becoming complex due to several inhibitors such as uncertainty in the market, technological innovation, environmental protocols, cross-border trade regulations, and many stakeholders’ involvement. In the existing literature, minimal discussion to study the inhibit supply chain complexity (SCC) inhibitors for achieving sustainability. Therefore, the study analyses the inhibitors to SCC and supply chain sustainability (SCS) jointly. The combined examination of the underlying relationship for improving the Petroleum Supply Chain’s sustainable performance (PSC) is arguably one of the complex sectors with a significant impact on the environment and sustainability. The inhibitors to SCC and SCS are identified through extensive literature review and experts’ opinions. Through a structured questionnaire, data were collected from PSC experts. An integrated approach of analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and interpretive structural modelling (ISM) is proposed to prioritize and examine the underlying relationship between inhibitors. This study explores the driving and dependence power of the inhibitors. The results indicate that most of the SCS inhibitors, such as institutional pressures (laws and regulations), strategic lack of strategic supplier alliance, market threat, act as drivers of SCC inhibitors, such as technological complexity, horizontal complexity, and complexity of customers. The study’s findings would help the supply chain managers and the petroleum sector policymakers to make better decision to overcome the challenges for achieving sustainability in PSC.

6 Effect of CNT additives on the electrical properties of derived nanocomposites (experimentally and numerical investigation)
In this work, two simulations models have been developed to study the electrical percolation and the electrical conductivity of epoxy-based nanocomposite containing Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes. The models are based on resistor-model and finite element analysis. The former was evaluated using MATLAB code and the finite element analysis using DIGIMAT software. The maximum tunneling distance and its influence on the percolation probability and final electrical conductivity were studied. Electrical measurements on the samples were conducted for numerical validation. The experimental data showed a percolation achievement around 2 wt%, which was confirmed in the numerical simulations. This study provides evidence of the effectiveness of the resistor model and finite element method approach to predict the electrical conductivity of nanocomposites.

7 Multifactor door locking systems: A review
Security has become very important, but along with that, people also need a system that is not very expensive and can be customized to meet our needs. As conventional door locks can be easily opened, this makes people vulnerable to security threats. This study attempts a comparative analysis of pre- existing researches, made in the field of security control system developed and improvised over the span of time with multifactor authentication technique’s evolvement. The components, hardware complications, work efficiency and algorithms used in each of the model is drawn as a comparison to other to pro- vide an idea of systematic development in this regard. With each passing day, security systems are advancing and new technology is being developed. Security systems or door locking mechanics have evolved from metallic door locks of primitive type keys, to advanced controlling structure with up to four or five step authentications to ensure utmost safety.© 2021 Elsevier Ltd. 8 Multi-objective optimization modelling of sustainable green supply chain in inventory and production management
The ever increasing pressure to conserve the environment from global warming cannot be overemphasized. Emission from the inventory and production process contributes immensely to global warming and hence, the need to device a sustainable green inventory by the operational managers. In this paper, a multi-item multi-objective inventory model with back-ordered quantity incorporating green investment in order to save the environment is proposed. The model is formulated as a multi-objective fractional programming problem with four objectives: maximizing profit ratio to total back-ordered quantity, minimizing the holding cost in the system, minimizing total waste produced by the inventory system per cycle and minimizing the total penalty cost due to green investment. The constraints are included with budget limitation, space restrictions, a constraint on cost of ordering each item, environmental waste disposal restriction, cost of pollution control, electricity consumption cost during production and cost of greenhouse gas emission in the production process. The model effectiveness is illustrated numerically, and the solution obtained to give a useful suggestion to the decision-markers in the manufacturing sectors.

9 Accounting for cross-immunity can improve forecast accuracy during influenza epidemics
Previous exposure to influenza viruses confers cross-immunity against future infections with related strains. However, this is not always accounted for explicitly in mathematical models used for forecasting during influenza outbreaks. We show that, if an influenza outbreak is due to a strain that is similar to one that has emerged previously, then accounting for cross-immunity explicitly can improve the accuracy of real-time forecasts. To do this, we consider two infectious disease outbreak forecasting models. In the first (the ‘‘1-group model’’), all individuals are assumed to be identical and cross-immunity is not accounted for. In the second (the ‘‘2-group model’’), individuals who have previously been infected by a related strain are assumed to be less likely to experience severe disease, and therefore recover more quickly, than immunologically naive individuals. We fit both models to estimated case notification data (including symptomatic individuals as well as laboratory-confirmed cases) from Japan from the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, and then generate synthetic data for a future outbreak by assuming that the 2-group model represents the epidemiology of influenza infections more accurately. We use the 1-group model (as well as the 2-group model for comparison) to generate forecasts that would be obtained in real-time as the future outbreak is ongoing, using parameter values estimated from the 2009 epidemic as informative priors, motivated by the fact that without using prior information from 2009, the forecasts are highly uncertain. In the scenario that we consider, the 1-group model only produces accurate outbreak forecasts once the peak of the epidemic has passed, even when the values of important epidemiological parameters such as the lengths of the mean incubation and infectious periods are known exactly. As a result, it is necessary to use the more epidemiologically realistic 2-group model to generate accurate forecasts. Accounting for cross-immunity driven by exposures in previous outbreaks explicitly is expected to improve the accuracy of epidemiological modelling forecasts during influenza outbreaks.

10 Purchasings contribution to supply chain emission reduction
Does environmental purchasing and supplier management (EPSM) help to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the supply chain and, thereby, mitigate climate change? And, if so, under which conditions? Taking these two questions as a starting point, we hypothesize that heightened environmental protection efforts targeting the upstream value chain should lead to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the buying companies’ supply chain. We continue to delineate three contingency factors that might affect the relationship between EPSM and supply chain GHG emissions: The power of the buying firm over supply chain partners, prior experience in EPSM, and materiality of environmental supply chain management in a certain industry. We collect longitudinal data from 260 companies and analyze them using hybrid panel data analysis. We find that the increase of EPSM leads to a significant reduction of the GHG emission intensity of buying firms’ supply chains and that this reduction is stronger for companies operating in industries where emission management is more material.
