1 Modern slavery statements: From regulation to substantive supply chain reporting
Recent years have seen a renewed focus on labor standards in the supply chain, prompted by legislation that requires firms to provide an account of their efforts to combat modern slavery. However, as a common problem of non-financial disclosure regulation, companies can decide the extent and content of their reporting, which could potentially result in merely symbolic disclosures with little substance. We examine the disclosure of substantive actions in modern slavery statements, defined as those disclosures of corporate actions that can positively affect working conditions in supply chains. We examine the corporate disclosure of these actions over time in order to evaluate whether legally mandated disclosure requirements could lead to progress in combatting modern slavery. For this purpose, we collected modern slavery statements from companies that had issued such statements for at least two different years after the

2 Circular economy for phosphorus supply chain and its impact on social sustainable development goals
To be able to grow crops, we have interfered with Earths reserves of one of top three essential elements, phosphorus (P), as to which we face a problem related to its high consumption compared to available resources. This forces us to follow the alternative of closing the phosphorus loop from a circular economy perspective. However, there is a lack of research on regional and global social sustainability in this area, as emphasized in the United Nations Agenda 2030 goals for sustainable development. In this paper, we address social challenges involved in global phosphorus supply chain, such as eradicating poverty, child labor and malnutrition; promoting gender equality; providing decent work and economic growth; maintaining sustainable water use; and achieving food security. Our research is driven by the question of whether the circular economy aims to direct phosphorus management towards tackling social issues associated with its supply chain. We use system dynamics modelling by combining the concept of material flow analysis and social life cycle assessment. Detailed analysis at regional and global levels indicates a paradoxical social impact of phosphorus circular model. This reflects the multiple stakeholders involved, and the regional interactions with phosphorus circular economy transitions. Improvements can be demonstrated in reducing poverty and providing safer work environment in many regions, e.g., Western Asia (93%), New Zealand, Central Asia, and Europe (44–61%), while achieving employment targets is limited in Northern and Eastern Europe. Circular model fails to promote gender equality, it also exacerbates exploitative child work problem for the Caribbean and most Africa. It provides sufficient nutrition to North America, Australia/New Zealand, and Northern Europe. It achieves water use targets in several regions with 53% savings worldwide. Finally, circular model contributes to P efficiency (average balance of 1.21 kgP/ha) and strengthens P security within most regions with an average of 64%.

3 A life cycle sustainability assessment of organic and conventional pork supply chains in Sweden
Most existing life cycle assessment studies that have compared the sustainability of organic and conventional pork supply chains are environmental assessments. The economic and social sustainability dimensions of pork supply chains are currently under-researched. The study reported here was designed to assess the environmental, economic and social sustainability of conventional and organic pork in Sweden. Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment was undertaken using 20 indicators expressed per unit product (1000 kg pork fork weight) and per unit area (1000 ha of farmland) for the four main subsystems in pork supply chains: (1) farm and feed production, (2) slaughter, (3) wholesaling and retailing, and (4) consumption. The organic pork supply chain out-performed the conventional chain in 11 of the 20 indicators expressed per unit product and 18 of the 20 indicators expressed per unit area. It was therefore the more sustainable of the two chains in nearly all the indicators expressed per unit area. However, the organic supply chain was less sustainable in some of the indicators expressed per unit product because, more feed per kg of pork was required in organic pork production. Pig welfare improvement leads to higher production costs and environmental impacts. Assessment of all three sustainability dimensions – environmental, economic and social – helps to identify trade-offs between these three pillars of sustainability. However, the selection of indicators influences results, and obtaining environmental, economic and social data simultaneously is challenging.

4 AHP-TOPSIS social sustainability approach for selecting supplier in construction supply chain
Prequalification of suppliers in the Construction Supply Chain is considered a crucial step to assure to their ability to deliver socially sustainable projects. This research identifies the most important social sustainability prequalification criteria for supplier selection in Construction Supply Chain. Additionally, a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) model based on social indicators of sustainability is proposed in this research. Structured interviews were organized with experienced practitioners to define the relative importance weights of criteria that have collected in the first phase using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). As such, the AHP is applied to develop mathematical determination to achieve the weights of social indicators. Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method is used to evaluate the different suppliers in the construction supply chain against 17 identified attributes. Ultimately, the closeness coefficients of the suppliers are estimated in order to identify social performance. The research aims at proposing a computational model of MCDM in order to introduce it to the construction organizations to utilize in the supplier prequalification process. A computational model is developed and a case study is worked out to illustrate the proposed methodology in supplier selection to ensure sustainable construction projects. Afterwards, the model is validated and a sensitivity analysis is conducted to analyze the impact of changing the weights of the considered attributes in the model outputs.

5 A two-stage multi-objective second generation biodiesel supply chain design considering social sustainability: A case study
Undesirable environmental impacts caused by fossil fuel consumption have motivated governments to focus on biofuels production. Therefore, in our paper, we design a multi-objective biodiesel supply chain from Jatropha, which includes biomass cultivation center, pretreatment, and oil extraction center, bio- refinery, and demand zone. In our study, a two-stage approach presented, which first specifies candidate locations for biomass cultivation with a common weight data envelopment analysis (CWDEA) method and then strategic and tactical decisions were made by a mathematical model. The presented multi- objective model focuses on cost minimization, besides social benefits and environmental impacts maximization while a life cycle assessment approach is used to model social indicators. The capability of the model is validated by proposing a case study of Iran and the augmented ε-constraint method is employed to reach a trade-off between three pillars of sustainability while managerial insights are provided by employing a Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method for the optimal solution selection. Models results and sensitivity analysis on key parameters, specify the best locations for Jatropha Curcas L. (JCL) cultivation and facility construction as well as an optimal value of supply chain variables, which finally proves that Iran has a high potential for biodiesel production from JCL that leads improving balanced socio-economic development in this country.© 2021 Elsevier Ltd. 8 System architecture for blockchain based transparency of supply chain social sustainability
Social sustainability is a major concern in global supply chains for protecting workers from exploitation and for providing a safe working environment. Although there are stipulated standards to govern supply chain social sustainability, it is not uncommon to hear of businesses being reported for noncompliance issues. Even reputable firms such as Unilever have been criticized for production labor exploitation. Consumers now increasingly expect sellers to disclose information on social sustainability, but sellers are confronted with the challenge of traceability in their multi-tier global supply chains. Blockchain offers a promising future to achieve instant traceability in supply chain social sustainability. This study develops a system architecture that integrates the use of blockchain, internet-of-things (IoT) and big data analytics to allow sellers to monitor their supply chain social sustainability efficiently and effectively. System implementation cost and potential challenges are analyzed before the research is concluded.

9 A systematic review on green human resource management: Implications for social sustainability
This article identifies current progressions and research gaps in Green Human Resource Management literature and investigates the future of green practices in meeting the social sustainability requirements of an organisation. Considering the growing awareness on greening and sustainability, a systematic review of the domain specific literature was carried out using the Scopus and Google Scholar databases which resulted in a set of 174 scientific articles between 1995 and 2019. NVivo Plus software version 12 was used for quantitative processing as well as qualitative analysis of data. Content coding and cluster analysis were performed, the results of which exhibited three clusters namely, green human resource management practices, employee green behaviour at workplace and organisational sustainability. Further manual analysis revealed social sustainability to be the least explored area than economic and environmental pillars of sustainability. From this, the authors conceptually explored a theoretical model suggesting the mediational role of ‘employee green behaviour at workplace’ in the relationship between ‘green human resource management practices’ and ‘social sustainability’ of organisations using grounded theory approach. Therefore, prioritising social equity, health, wellness and well-being, this work examines the state-of-the-art in green human resource management research to unravel the enormous potential of core green practices envisioning social sustainability, which has not been established till date. Based on the content coding, clustering, and further analysis, propositions, future paths and implications are also presented.

10 Considering sustainability in cruise vessel design and construction based on existing sustainability certification systems
Interest towards sustainability in cruise industry has increased during recent years. This article focuses in the ship design and construction phase and what sustainability indicators can be collected e and adapted - from certification systems in other sectors. Certificates in land-based construction and hospitality sectors, as well as a general reporting scheme called Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), serve as a benchmark in this study. The indicators that can be collected already during the design and construction phase are categorized, the categories are linked to the phase in which the indicators have effect on, and the applicability of each category for cruise industry is considered. The certificates for land-based construction are more detailed than GRI and more thorough than certificates in hospitality sector. From the indicators affecting design and construction phase, indicators in general management of the project, material selection and waste management categories can be utilized in cruise industry similarly to existing sustainability systems. While social sustainability is seen important in cruise industry, in land-based construction sector the social sustainability indicators are scarce, whereas GRI or even hospitality sector certificates have more comprehensive set of indicators. In indicators affecting the operation time, modification and additions are required before usage in cruise industry. The environmental effects should be redefined taking into account especially the air pollution and waste management. In well-being effects and encouraging sustainable lifestyle there are plenty of unsuitable indicators due to the operational environment, but new indicators could be developed on the crew premises. Building efficiency and commissioning are suitable for cruise industry. Although there are only a few indicators affecting the deconstruction phase, they can be considered suitable.
