1 IoTracker: A probabilistic event tracking approach for data-intensive IoT Smart Applications
Smart Applications for cities, industry, farming and healthcare use Internet of Things (IoT) approaches to improve the general quality. A dependency on smart applications implies that any misbehavior may impact our society with varying criticality levels, from simple inconveniences to life-threatening dangers. One critical challenge in this area is to overcome the side effects caused by data loss due to failures in software, hardware, and communication systems, which may also affect data logging systems. Event traceability and auditing may be impaired when an application makes automated decisions and the operating log is incomplete. In an environment where many events happen automatically, an audit system must understand, validate, and find the root causes of eventual failures. This paper presents a probabilistic approach to track sequences of events even in the face of logging data loss using Bayesian networks. The results of the performance analysis with three smart application scenarios show that this approach is valid to track events in the face of incomplete data. Also, scenarios modeled with Bayesian subnets highlight a decreasing complexity due to this divide and conquer strategy that reduces the number of elements involved. Consequently, the results improve and also reveal the potential for further advancement.

2 Duality Between Source Coding With Quantum Side Information and Classical-Quantum Channel Coding
In this paper, we establish an interesting duality between two different quantum information-processing tasks, namely, classical source coding with quantum side information, and channel coding over classical-quantum channels. The duality relates the optimal error exponents of these two tasks, generalizing the classical results of Ahlswede and Dueck [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 28(3):430–443, 1982]. We establish duality both at the operational level and at the level of the entropic quantities characterizing these exponents. For the latter, the duality is given by an exact relation, whereas for the former, duality manifests itself in the following sense: an optimal coding strategy for one task can be used to construct an optimal coding strategy for the other task. Along the way, we derive a bound on the error exponent for classical-quantum channel coding with constant composition codes which might be of independent interest. Finally, we consider the task of variable-length classical compression with quantum side information, and a duality relation between this task and classical-quantum channel coding can also be established correspondingly. Furthermore, we study the strong converse of this task, and show that the strong converse property does not hold even in the i.i.d. scenario.

3 Fault-Tolerant Coherent H∞ Control for Linear Quantum Systems
Robustness and reliability are two key requirements for developing practical quantum control systems. The purpose of this article is to design a coherent feedback controller for a class of linear quantum systems suffering from Markovian jumping faults so that the closed-loop quantum system has both fault tolerance and H∞ disturbance attenuation performance. This article first extends the physical realization conditions from the time-invariant case to the time-varying case for linear stochastic quantum systems. By relating the fault-tolerant H∞ control problem to the dissipation properties and the solutions of Riccati differential equations, an H∞ controller for the quantum system is then designed by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities. In particular, an algorithm is employed to introduce additional quantum inputs and to construct the corresponding input matrices to ensure the physical realizability of the quantum controller. Also, we propose a real application of the developed fault-tolerant control strategy to quantum optical systems. A linear quantum system example from quantum optics, where the amplitude of the pumping field randomly jumps among different values due to the fault processes, can be modeled as a linear Markovian jumping system. It is demonstrated that a quantum H∞ controller can be designed and implemented using some basic optical components to achieve the desired control goal for this class of systems.

4 Mapping Nearest Neighbor Compliant Quantum Circuits Onto a 2-D Hexagonal Architecture
Quantum algorithms can be described as quantum circuits and are supposed to be carried out on an ideal quantum device that is far from current ones. The current quantum devices have a significant limitation on the connectivity between quantum bits. In other words, a quantum bit is only allowed to interact with its nearest neighbors (NNs). In reality, quantum bits have to be placed on a grid, where the connectivity between quantum bits is predefined. The predefined connectivity of a grid further determines the possible range of architectures of a quantum device after the placement of quantum bits. In this article, we propose to place quantum bits based on a 2-D hexagonal architecture rather than a 2-D Cartesian architecture. To validate the effectiveness, we leverage a workflow for mapping NN compliant quantum circuits onto targeting grids, where the workflow consists of a global reordering strategy and a local reordering strategy. With the advantages of the hexagonal grid, the overhead of making quantum circuits NN compliant is reduced significantly compared with the Cartesian grid. We also provide a comprehensive set of ablation analyses to gain a better understanding of the contributions of the components within our workflow. According to the experimental results, when changing the grid type from Cartesian to hexagonal, the global reordering strategy is crucial for small quantum circuits. In contrast, the local reordering strategy is more important than the global reordering strategy for large quantum circuits.

7 Resource Management for Edge Intelligence (EI)-Assisted IoV Using Quantum-Inspired Reinforcement Learning
Recent developments in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) enable interconnected vehicles to support ubiquitous services. Various emerging service applications are promising to increase the Quality of Experience (QoE) of users. On-board computation tasks generated by these applications have heavily overloaded the resource-constrained vehicles, forcing it to offload on-board tasks to other edge intelligence (EI)-assisted servers. However, excessive task offloading can lead to severe competition for communication and computation resources among vehicles, thereby increasing the processing latency, energy consumption, and system cost. To address these problems, we investigate the transmission-awareness and computing-sense uplink resource management problem and formulate it as a time-varying Markov decision process. Considering the total delay, energy consumption, and cost, quantum-inspired reinforcement learning (QRL) is proposed to develop an intelligence-oriented edge offloading strategy. Specifically, the vehicle can flexibly choose the network access mode and offloading strategy through two different radio interfaces to offload tasks to multiaccess edge computing (MEC) servers through WiFi and cloud servers through 5G. The objective of this joint optimization is to maintain a self-adaptive balance between these two aspects. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the transmission latency and computation delay.

8 The Accuracy vs: Sampling Overhead Trade-off in Quantum Error Mitigation Using Monte Carlo-Based Channel Inversion
Quantum error mitigation (QEM) is a class of promising techniques for reducing the computational error of variational quantum algorithms. In general, the computational error reduction comes at the cost of a sampling overhead due to the variance-boosting effect caused by the channel inversion operation, which ultimately limits the applicability of QEM. Existing sampling overhead analysis of QEM typically assumes exact channel inversion, which is unrealistic in practical scenarios. In this treatise, we consider a practical channel inversion strategy based on Monte Carlo sampling, which introduces additional computational error that in turn may be eliminated at the cost of an extra sampling overhead. In particular, we show that when the computational error is small compared to the dynamic range of the error-free results, it scales with the square root of the number of gates. By contrast, the error exhibits a linear scaling with the number of gates in the absence of QEM under the same assumptions. Hence, the error scaling of QEM remains to be preferable even without the extra sampling overhead. Our analytical results are accompanied by numerical examples.

9 Timing and Resource-Aware Mapping of Quantum Circuits to Superconducting Processors
Quantum algorithms need to be compiled to respect the constraints imposed by quantum processors, which is known as the mapping problem. The mapping procedure will result in an increase of the number of gates and of the circuit latency, decreasing the algorithm’s success rate. It is crucial to minimize mapping overhead, especially for noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) processors that have relatively short qubit coherence times and high gate error rates. Most of prior mapping algorithms have only considered constraints, such as the primitive gate set and qubit connectivity, but the actual gate duration and the restrictions imposed by the use of shared classical control electronics have not been taken into account. In this article, we present a mapper called Qmap to make quantum circuits executable on scalable processors with the objective of achieving the shortest circuit latency. In particular, we propose an approach to formulate the classical control restrictions as resource constraints in a conventional list scheduler with polynomial complexity. Furthermore, we implement a routing heuristic to cope with the connectivity limitation. This router finds a set of movement operations that minimally extends circuit latency. To analyze the mapping overhead and evaluate the performance of different mappers, we map 56 quantum benchmarks onto a superconducting processor named Surface-17. Compared to a prior mapping strategy that minimizes the number of operations, Qmap can reduce the latency overhead (LtyOH) up to 47.3% and operation overhead up to 28.6%, respectively.

10 A new DTN routing strategies ensuring high message delivery ratio while keeping low power consumption
This study proposes Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) routing strategies for disaster information delivery under the existence of obstacles that are based on the message relay decision (MRD) method. The proposed methods include a new added obstacle detection procedure to deliver messages to destinations while bypassing the obstacles. Efficient and precise relief activities are required immediately after disasters, and it is well known that obstacles appearing after a disaster will degrade message forwarding performance. Hence, the proposed schemes maintain communication performance by using a node to detect the existence of obstacles around itself. If there are obstacles, the message strategy is altered to bypass the obstacle. In this study, human-beings are the main mobile nodes and mobile phones are the creators and forwarders of messages. A multiple obstacle model is used to evaluate the schemes in terms of obstacle-resistance. Three routing schemes are proposed: MRD with area increase (MRDAI), Sub-Relay Station (SRS), and Adapted Predict Obstacle (APO). This model tests MRDAI and SRS at the macro level and APO under the existence of concave obstacles. The MRDAI scheme could autonomously perceive the existence of a huge obstacle and intelligently enlarge the original message relay area. The SRS scheme could re-establish sub-relay areas based on MRDAI. The APO scheme demonstrated resistance to concave obstacles, stability (less affected by environmental changes), and a high delivery ratio while ensuring low energy consumption. These proposed strategies for information delivery in a disaster area can be used to launch rescue activities more quickly.
