1 Agility and system documentation in large-scale enterprise system projects: a knowledge management perspective
The growth of the agile approach usage comes with a deemphasis on formal documentation (explicit knowledge) and an increased reliance on personal interactions (tacit knowledge) for knowledge transfer. However, the sharing of tacit knowledge poses challenges. The agile approach is prone to knowledge hoarding, as well as knowledge loss from employee turnover and reassignment during periods of significant organizational changes. This study proposes a model that frames documentation and personal interactions as co-agents of system knowledge transfer. We report the preliminary confirmation of crucial antecedents along the dimensions of codification and personalization strategies to support our model. We present a set of findings on current practices, as well as a set of knowledge-sharing issues on system documentation based on three main categories. The first category incorporates system development approaches applied in large-scale enterprise systems projects. The second and the third categories comprise eight knowledge management themes, classified into the dimensions of personalization and codification for knowledge sharing and document practices. Finally, we put forward five propositions based on our findings.

2 Knowledge management and humanitarian organisations in the Asia-Pacific: Practices, challenges, and future pathways
While there is growing recognition amongst humanitarians that knowledge sharing and exchange are essential components of organisational efficiency and effectiveness, knowledge management processes in many human- itarian organisations are still inadequate. The review of knowledge management and international relations literature reveals limited research on the institutional memory of humanitarian organisations. This article aims to start filling this research gap by examining the use of explicit and tacit knowledge transfer in the humanitarian sector in the Asia-Pacific. It points to the embryonic stage of knowledge management and the reliance on tacit knowledge management consistent with the early stage of sector professionalization in the region. It reviews and analyses existing scholarly literature and manuals and draws on fieldwork interviews with key humanitarian personnel that primarily focus on natural hazards. The findings suggest institutional memory in the humanitarian sector remains ad hoc with limited long-term capture. There is a broad tendency in the region to rely on tacit knowledge transfer – interpersonal relationships and informal decision-making – as the dominant knowledge management practice. This reliance challenges knowledge management at the institutional level and indicates a weakness in the institutional memory of humanitarian organisations in the region. Our research raises questions about how to improve knowledge management practices within humanitarian organisations in the Asia-Pacific with significant implications for the sector more generally. A recalibration of tacit and explicit knowledge management would build institutional memory in humanitarian organisations. This requires a dual-track approach with codified documentation of experiences and greater emphasis on an institutional culture of knowledge sharing.

3 New Knowledge Management framework for manufacturing SMEs working in strictly regulated sectors
A new and practical Knowledge Management framework for manufacturing SMEs operating in strictly regulated sectors has been developed based on a research project focused on the aquisition, synthesis, internalisation and extension of the knowledge and requirements related to hazardous environments regulations. The study of KM theory and practice was focused on SMEs, manufacturing sector and compliance constraints. The project used a complex case-study centred methodology to create a compendium of knowledge based on the compliance requirements and on existing intangible knowledge. The resulting framework is suitable for use in similar situations, and it emphasises low resource use, cost-effectiveness and usability.

4 Application of multivariate statistics and 3D visualization analysis in tacit knowledge diffusion map
Tacit knowledge is an important factor for enterprises and institutions to enhance their knowledge innovation and value-added capabilities, and it is also a basic link to enhance organizational learning capabilities. With the development of technology, the dissemination of tacit knowledge has increasingly shown complex and dynamic trends. In order to make the tacit knowledge in the enterprise better circulate and generate greater economic value, therefore, this paper proposes a study on the diffusion map of tacit knowledge based on multivariate statistics and 3D visualization analysis. First of all, this paper analyzes the internal relationship between orga- nizational learning and organizational tacit knowledge integration and organizational tacit knowledge innova- tion, and combines multiple statistical methods to propose an organizational tacit knowledge integration method based on tacit knowledge management. Secondly, we combine 3D visualization and generative confrontation network methods to analyze the data of tacit knowledge dissemination, and visualize the distribution of knowledge dissemination in three dimensions. In the simulation experiment test, this paper reveals that the spreading efficiency of tacit knowledge in the network is affected by related factors. Through this model, we hope to explore the behavioral laws of different types of nodes in the network and propose effective countermeasures to improve the efficiency of knowledge dissemination.

5 Managing global knowledge transfer: Inpatriate manager embeddedness and firm innovation
The purpose of this study is to explore the role of tacit knowledge transfer in a particular type of global manager - the inpatriate manager who is typically relocated from the MNC’s subsidiary to headquarter. To do so, we draw on social embeddedness theory. Our paper suggests that if an inpatriate manager becomes embedded within the MNCs headquarter, tacit knowledge transfer will occur resulting in innovative practices and a global mindset within the MNCs headquarters. This study takes the unique approach of studying the barriers that inpatriate managers face in the transfer of tacit knowledge and highlights the role of human resources in facilitating the transfer of knowledge across the MNC. The paper articulates the implications for policy and practice and a future research agenda.

6 The effects of subsidiary?s leadership and entrepreneurship on international marketing knowledge transfer and new product development
This study investigates the role of a strong subsidiary leadership and entrepreneurial culture in the promotion of marketing knowledge inflows. We further examine their consequences on the subsidiary’s ability to develop new products when moderated by the tacitness of knowledge. The data were collected from 202 Portuguese sub- sidiaries of multinational corporations and were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that subsidiaries’ strong leadership support and entre- preneurial culture are fundamental mechanisms that foster marketing knowledge inflows from both the head- quarters and peer subsidiaries. Moreover, marketing knowledge inflows enhance the focal subsidiary’s innovation abilities. We also find that tacit knowledge exerts contradictory moderating effects on the transfers of marketing knowledge, carrying distinct implications for a subsidiary’s knowledge management. The results expand our understanding of the effectiveness of transferring marketing knowledge among multinational cor- porations’ (MNCs) subsidiaries.

7 Taking digital soil mapping to the field: Lessons learned from the water smart agriculture soil mapping project in Central America
The goal of the Water Smart Agriculture (WSA) program is to improve food security in Central America through changes in policies, programs, and practices in water use efficiency. The Digital Soil Mapping (DSM) project is a component of WSA that aims to create human capital with knowledge and skills in sustainable soil and water management through the production of informative soil maps, under the guiding principle of “managing soils to manage water”. DSM provides a platform for producing detailed maps of soil types, properties and functions. However, the transition of DSM from research to operational levels brings a new set of challenges related to input, data processing and outputs. The major challenges identified during the pilot stage of the DSM project were: (i) soil data availability, quality and compatibility; (ii) lack of DSM skills; and (iii) lack of product delivery platforms. Training based on pilot projects was conducted to build local DSM capacity and infrastructure and incorporate tacit knowledge. Expanding from pilot stage to national level required the establishment of DSM teams that are multi-institutional and interdisciplinary. In order to achieve buy-in from the local and national governments, the DSM teams were comprised of members from public institutions and professional organizations and they adopted a participatory DSM approach and produced functional soil maps capable of supporting decisions at multiple levels.

8 The tacit knowledge of entrepreneurial design: Interrelating theory, practice and prescription in entrepreneurship research
An important challenge facing entrepreneurship researchers is the “three-body” knowledge problem of how to use “theoretical knowledge” to produce “prescriptive knowledge” that communicates the “practical knowledge” of situated practice to students and practitioners of entrepreneurship. We argue that a contribution can be made to solving this problem by theorizing practical knowledge as the “know-how” to do a situated entrepreneurial practice. “Know-how” is a cognitive “capacity to act” that prescribes for a practitioner how to produce a type of outcome in a range of circumstances. This “know-how” can potentially, therefore, be reconstructed theoretically as explicit micro-prescriptive guidelines for third-party practice. To exploit this connection between practical knowledge and prescriptive knowledge, however, we first need to overcome the problem that “know-how” is largely tacit in the moment of real-time forward-looking practice. In other words, the practitioner is not directly aware of their tacit “know-how”, or “tacit knowledge”, at the time of practice. In this article, we explore the contribution design theory can make to empirically eliciting, and conceptually inferring, the real-time “tacit knowledge” of entrepreneurial practice as a precursor to producing micro-prescriptive knowledge.

9 Capturing and managing knowledge using social software and semantic web technologies
It has often been claimed that implicit knowledge is the most important kind of knowledge within organizations. The surge of social software offers new ways to elicit and diffuse this kind of knowledge. Social software also proved to be effective knowledge management in struments, particularly when combined with semantic web technologies. The logical next step - supporting the management of implicit knowledge by using semantic web-enabled social software–has been only episodically explored. In this article we present KnowBest, a platform based on social software and semantic web tools to manage a specific class of im plicit how-to knowledge in organizations. Our approach leverages social software intrinsic characteristics and extends them to allow for both knowledge and its structure to emerge and be collectively managed in a cooperative way using online tools with simplified in terfaces. We use semantic web technologies to externalize implicit knowledge and enable reasoning on the knowledge base; we exploit reasoning within the platform itself in the form of a semantic recommender that is meant to enhance the ability of the users to find documented practices possibly related to the work they have at hand, affecting positively internalization too. We performed an evaluation in the context of a specific case study collecting feedbacks from users and showing that KnowBest can be successfully deployed to effectively promote how-to knowledge circulation within a community.

10 The advent of customer experiential knowledge management approach (CEKM): The integration of offline & online experiential knowledge
This paper builds a conceptual reflection leading to the proposition of the customer experiential knowledge management (CEKM) approach. The challenge, here, is how to connect the customer knowledge management to the customer lived service experience. Hence, a conceptual analysis ascertains that the customer knowledge, as retrieved from his lived experience, plays a key role in the implementation of an experiential innovation. In this regard, the customer experiential knowledge is drawn from the lived service experience in situ, both online and offline. The customer experiential knowledge is redefined by integrating the experience lived and shared online. Then, a strategic model of CEKM, that integrates the customer experience processed through the knowledge management, is proposed. Research gaps are highlighted through a critical review of the literature in order to defend CEKM approach and give way to the proposition of practical implications in terms of competencies and research questions.
