1 Developing a two-stage model for a sustainable closed-loop supply chain with pricing and advertising decisions
Closed-Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) has become a critical problem due to its effects on various factors including economic motivations, environmental concerns, and social impacts. Moreover, there are coordination tools, such as pricing and advertising, which impact its performance. In this paper, we offer a two-stage approach to model and solve a sustainable CLSC, taking into account pricing, green quality, and advertising. In the first stage, optimal decisions on pricing, greening, and advertising are made, while in the second stage, a fuzzy multi- objective Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is used to maximize the total profit, reduce CO2 emissions, and improve social impacts. Suitable solution methods are introduced according to the scale of the problem. For small-scale instances, an augmented ϵ-constraint method is used to solve the problem. For large-scale instances, approximations are required, and a Lagrangian relaxation algorithm solves the problem in polynomial time. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated through various numerical examples. The results illustrate the applicability and efficiency of the model, while confirming significant improvements in sustainable objectives under optimal pricing, green quality, and advertising. Besides, the proposed Lagrangian relaxation method significantly reduces the computational time for large-scale instances, with only a 2.308% deviation from the optimal results.

2 Efficient and sustainable closed-loop supply chain network design: A two-stage stochastic formulation with a hybrid solution methodology
In recent years, consumers and legislators have pushed companies to design their supply chain networks to consider environmental and social impacts as an important performance outcome. Due to the role of resource utilization as a key component of logistics network design, another primary goal of design is ensuring available scarce resources are used as efficiently as possible across all facilities. To address efficiency issues in a sustainable closed-loop supply chain network, a stochastic integrated multi-objective mixed integer nonlinear programming model is developed in this paper, in which sustainability outcomes as well as efficiency of facility resource utilization are considered in the design of a sustainable supply chain network. In doing so, efficiency is assessed using a bi-objective output-oriented data envelopment analysis model. A hybrid three-step solution methodology is presented that creates a linear form of the original mixed integer nonlinear programming problem using piecewise McCormick envelopes approach. In the second step, an aggregated single objective programming model is derived by exploiting the multi-choice goal programming. Finally, a Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is developed to effectively solve the latter stochastic single objective mixed integer linear programming problem. The application of the proposed approach is investigated with data drawn from a case study in the electronics industry. This case study illustrates how firms may balance sustainability and efficiency in the supply chain network design problem. Further, it demonstrates the integration of efficiency results in improving economic aspects of sustainability as well as social responsibility outcomes, but also highlights the trade-offs that exist between efficiency and environmental impacts.

3 A hybrid modeling approach for green and sustainable closed-loop supply chain considering price, advertisement and uncertain demands
The closed-loop supply chain network design (CLSCND) has garnered a lot of attention since it can handle economic and environmental issues. Likewise, supply chain coordination (SCC) tools can play an important role in enhancing the performance of the supply chains. This paper proposes a new hybrid method, in which SCC decisions and CLSCND objectives are simultaneously involved. First, this approach makes price, greenness, and advertisement decisions, and then it aims at maximizing profit and minimizing CO2 emission. A new nonlinear programming (NLP) model is developed based on the sensitivity of the return rate to green quality and the customers’ maximum tolerance, while the demands are uncertain. In order to overcome the uncertain demands, a robust optimization (RO) model is used. A Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is also employed to solve large-scale instances in a logical running time. The applicability of the proposed approach is corroborated through several examples. The results indicate an improvement in the performance of economic and environmental objectives under greening and advertising decisions. Furthermore, the proposed RO model outperforms the model that does not consider a robust approach.

4 A novel representation of time-varying viscosity with power-law and comparative study
Time-varying viscosity of viscoelastic materials has been found to induce complex rheology behaviors, which cannot be well characterized by the classical viscoelastic models. In this paper, different types of time-varying viscosity, namely, linearly varying viscosity, exponentially varying viscosity, and the proposed power-law viscosity are introduced with the applications to describing experimental data. Subsequently, these time-varying viscosities are embedded into the classical viscoelastic models. The relaxation and creep responses of the modified viscoelastic models are analytically derived and compared with the performance of the corresponding fractional models. The results indicate that the proposed power-law viscosity and the exponentially varying viscosity are capable of characterizing both thixotropy and rheopexy. The modified Maxwell model with power-law viscosity agrees well with the creep and relaxation responses of time-varying materials. It is also found that viscoelastic materials exhibiting thixotropy show faster rheological responses than the materials exhibiting rheopexy.

5 Dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC) in dental restorative materials: Implementation of a DCC-based adaptive interface (AI) at the resin–filler interface for improved performance
Objective. Dental restorative composites have been extensively studied with a goal to improve material performance. However, stress induced microcracks from polymerization shrinkage, thermal and other stresses along with the low fracture toughness of methacrylate-based composites remain significant problems. Herein, the study focuses on applying a dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC)-based adaptive interface to conventional BisGMA/TEGDMA (70:30) dental resins by coupling moieties capable of thiol–thioester (TTE) DCC to the resin–filler interface as a means to induce interfacial stress relaxation and promote interfacial healing. Methods. Silica nanoparticles (SNP) are functionalized with TTE-functionalized silanes to covalently bond the interface to the network while simultaneously facilitating relaxation of the filler–matrix interface via DCC. The functionalized particles were incorporated into the otherwise static conventional BisGMA/TEGDMA (70:30) dental resins. The role of interfacial bond exchange to enhance dental composite performance in response to shrinkage and other stresses, flexural modulus and toughness was investigated. Shrinkage stress was monitored with a tensometer coupled with FTIR spectroscopy. Flexural modulus/strength and flexural toughness were characterized in three-point bending on a universal testing machine. Results. A reduction of 30% in shrinkage stress was achieved when interfacial TTE bond exchange was activated while not only maintaining but also enhancing mechanical properties of the composite. These enhancements include a 60% increase in Young’s modulus, 33% increase in flexural strength and 35% increase in the toughness, relative to composites unable to undergo DCC but otherwise identical in composition. Furthermore, by combining interfacial DCC with resin-based DCC, an 80% reduction of shrinkage-induced stress is observed in a thiol–ene system “equipped” with both types of DCC mechanisms relative to the composite without DCC in either the resin or at the resin–filler interface. Significance. This behavior highlights the advantages of utilizing the DCC at the resin–filler interface as a stress-relieving mechanism that is compatible with current and future devel- opments in the field of dental restorative materials, nearly independent of the type of resin improvements and types that will be used, as it can dramatically enhance their mechanical performance by reducing both polymerization and mechanically applied stresses through- out the composite lifetime.

6 Keep calm and carry on (ethically): Durable moral courage in the workplace
We develop a model of factors that enable morally courageous actors to carry on even after encountering organizational opposition. The model specifies that durable moral courage facilitates continued moral action and that demoralization inhibits it, and presents the perceived manageability of the organizational response as a factor affecting the extent to which an actor experiences durable moral courage and/or demoralization. It is proposed that moral efficacy, hardiness, and planning for endurance insulate the actor before an act of moral courage, by enhancing the perceived manageability of the organizational response; and that emotional self-regulation fortifies the actor by enhancing the perceived manageability of that response once it comes. It is also posited that moral efficacy and hardiness contribute directly to durable moral courage, hardiness and planning for endurance increase durable moral courage by promoting moral efficacy, and emotional self-regulation augments planning for endurance. Implications for research and practice are offered.

8 Perceiving emotions in robot body language: Acute stress heightens sensitivity to negativity while attenuating sensitivity to arousal
Reliance on socioemotional assistive robots is projected to increase, yet little is known about how our ability to perceive their emotional expression is impacted by psychological factors. In high-risk and high- tension domains such as emergency services and healthcare, how might the cognitive and physiological stress we are experiencing influence how we read a humanoid robots nonverbally conveyed emotions? Using a novel paradigm, we asked participants under experimentally-induced acute stress vs. low stress to evaluate a set of normed emotional body language poses conveyed by a physically-present vs. virtually-instantiated humanoid robot. Participants rated each pose for emotional valence (negativity/ positivity) and arousal (calm/excited). Acute stress increased the perception of negative valence in negative high arousal poses, consistent with stress-induced hypervigilance. Surprisingly, stress dimin- ished the perception of arousal in high arousal poses, whereas repeated presentation of the low arousal poses increased perception of arousal. Participants rated emotion similarly for the physically-present vs. virtually-present robot, although positively-valenced poses conveyed by the physical robot were perceived as more positive and more animate. We propose that perceptions of emotional arousal may be especially vulnerable to context effects and misattribution. These findings have implications for how assistive robots can best be designed for high-risk and high-tension contexts.© 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

9 TensiStrength: Stress and relaxation magnitude detection for social media texts
Computer systems need to be able to react to stress in order to perform optimally on some tasks. This article describes TensiStrength, a system to detect the strength of stress and relaxation expressed in social media text messages. TensiStrength uses a lexical ap proach and a set of rules to detect direct and indirect expressions of stress or relaxation, particularly in the context of transportation. It is slightly more effective than a compara ble sentiment analysis program, although their similar performances occur despite differ ences on almost half of the tweets gathered. The effectiveness of TensiStrength depends on the nature of the tweets classified, with tweets that are rich in stress-related terms being particularly problematic. Although generic machine learning methods can give better per formance than TensiStrength overall, they exploit topic-related terms in a way that may be undesirable in practical applications and that may not work as well in more focused contexts. In conclusion, TensiStrength and generic machine learning approaches work well enough to be practical choices for intelligent applications that need to take advantage of stress information, and the decision about which to use depends on the nature of the texts analysed and the purpose of the task.

10 Parallel methods for weakly singular Volterra integral equations on GPUs
The purpose of this paper is to employ graphics processing units for the numerical solution of large systems of weakly singular Volterra Integral Equations (VIEs), by means of Waveform Relaxation (WR) methods. A CUDA solver based on different kinds of WR iterations is developed. Numerical results on large systems of VIEs arising from the semi discretization in space of fractional diffusion-wave equations are presented, showing the obtained speed-up.
