A sticky chocolate problem: Impression management and counter accounts in the shaping of corporate image
مسئله شکلات چسبنده: مدیریت تاثیر و حساب های متقابل در شکل دادن به تصویر شرکت-2021 Demand for chocolate is at an all-time high. However, producing chocolate comes with
some sticky social, environmental and economic problems. This paper focuses on the
issues of child labour, forced child labour and unsustainable farming practice within the
chocolate industry, and specifically on the discourse about Nestlé’s Ivory Coast cocoa
supply chain. We analyse corporate disclosures, related counter accounts and
subsequent responses in new and old media as a dynamic communication process. A
mobilising of Goffman’s (1959) dramaturgical metaphor of impression management
contextualises each communication as a performance towards an audience. Behind the
communications is Nestlé’s need to repair its legitimacy – because child labour and
unsustainable farming exist in its cocoa supply chain – and the audience’s vested
interests in their counter-performances. The Nestlé case offers substantive and nuanced
insights into corporate disclosure and communication practices, how the Internet is
changing the more unidirectional performances of the past, and how appreciation of
counter accounts and subsequent responses to counter accounts contributes to
theoretical understanding as well as provides insights into the plight of cocoa’s child
labourers.

A framework for effective corporate communication after cyber security incidents
چارچوبی برای ارتباط موثر شرکت های بزرگ پس از حوادث امنیت سایبری-2020 A major cyber security incident can represent a cyber crisis for an organisation, in particular because of the associated risk of substantial reputational damage. As the likelihood
of falling victim to a cyberattack has increased over time, so too has the need to understand exactly what is effective corporate communication after an attack, and how best to
engage the concerns of customers, partners and other stakeholders. This research seeks to
tackle this problem through a critical, multi-faceted investigation into the efficacy of crisis
communication and public relations following a data breach. It does so by drawing on academic literature, obtained through a systematic literature review, and real-world case studies. Qualitative data analysis is used to interpret and structure the results, allowing for the
development of a new, comprehensive framework for corporate communication to support
companies in their preparation and response to such events. The validity of this framework
is demonstrated by its evaluation through interviews with senior industry professionals,
as well as a critical assessment against relevant practice and research. The framework is
further refined based on these evaluations, and an updated version defined. This research
represents the first grounded, comprehensive and evaluated proposal for characterising effective corporate communication after cyber security incidents. How financial crisis history informs ethical corporate communication: Insights from corporate communication leaders
چگونه تاریخچه بحران مالی به ارتباطات شرکت های اخلاقی می پردازد: بینش از رهبران ارتباطات شرکتی-2018 This study explored how financial crisis history can inform corporate crisis communication
practice across industries and over time. Thirty-eight interviews with chief communications of
ficers (CCOs) and their counselors were conducted to explore what lasting lessons these corporate
communication leaders learned from their crisis communication practice during the 2008
Financial Crisis. Key lessons learned include: 1) the importance for corporations to tailor their
financial communication strategies according to victim vs. perpetrator perception and ethical
response expectations held by stakeholders; 2) the importance of stakeholders, and employees in
particular, when creating and implementing the plan; 3) the balance between speed and legal
concerns, as well as the need for reducing complexity by making sure stakeholder communica
tions are delivered with clarity and accessibility; and 4) a recipe for success includes honesty,
transparency, trust/integrity, taking action to reform questionable practices, and abiding by one’s own
personal morals. Insights from this study shed light on how learning contributes to ethical cor
porate communication practice in times of crisis and crisis spillover.

Islamic financial institutions, corporate governance, and corporate risk disclosure in Gulf Cooperation Council countries
موسسات اسلامی مالی، اداره امور شرکت ها، و افشای ریسک شرکت های بزرگ در کشورهای شورای همکاری خلیج فارس-2015 Using content analysis we evaluate the determinants of corporate
risk disclosure in a sample of 424 publicly traded firms in the Gulf
Cooperation Council countries. We hypothesize that corporate risk
disclosure will be lower in Islamic financial institutions when com
pared to conventional financial institutions and higher in firms that
have high quality corporate governance contexts. We also argue
that corporate risk disclosure will vary across the Gulf Cooperation
Council countries despite sociocultural and regulatory similarities.
Results are generally supportive ofour hypotheses. Implications for
theory and practice are discussed.
