Internet of Things-enabled Passive Contact Tracing in Smart Cities
2022 Contact tracing has been proven an essential practice during pandemic outbreaks and is a
critical non-pharmaceutical intervention to reduce mortality rates. While traditional con-
tact tracing approaches are gradually being replaced by peer-to-peer smartphone-based
systems, the new applications tend to ignore the Internet-of-Things (IoT) ecosystem that is
steadily growing in smart city environments. This work presents a contact tracing frame-
work that logs smart space users’ co-existence using IoT devices as reference anchors. The
design is non-intrusive as it relies on passive wireless interactions between each user’s
carried equipment (e.g., smartphone, wearable, proximity card) with an IoT device by uti-
lizing received signal strength indicators (RSSI). The proposed framework can log the iden-
tities for the interacting pair, their estimated distance, and the overlapping time duration.
Also, we propose a machine learning-based infection risk classification method to char-
acterize each interaction that relies on RSSI-based attributes and contact details. Finally,
the proposed contact tracing framework’s performance is evaluated through a real-world
case study of actual wireless interactions between users and IoT devices through Bluetooth
Low Energy advertising. The results demonstrate the system’s capability to accurately cap-
ture contact between mobile users and assess their infection risk provided adequate model
training over time.

Deployment-Ready Quantum Key Distribution Over a Classical Network Infrastructure in Padua
2022 Current technological progress is driving Quantum
Key Distribution towards a commercial and worldwide scale
expansion. Its capability to deliver secure communication
regardless of the computational power of the attackers will be a
fundamental feature in the next generations of telecommunication
networks. Nevertheless, demonstrations of QKD implementation in a real operating scenario and their coexistence with the
classical telecom infrastructure are of fundamental importance
for reliable exploitation. Here we present a Quantum Key
Distribution application implemented over a classical fiber-based
infrastructure. We exploit a 50 MHz source at 1550 nm, a single 13
km-long fiber cable for both the quantum and the classical channel,
and a simplified receiver scheme with just one single-photon
detector. In this way, we achieve an error rate of approximately
2% and a secret key rate of about 1.7 kbps, thus demonstrating the
feasibility of low-cost and ready-to-use Quantum Key Distribution
systems compatible with standard classical infrastructure.

Direct Quantum Communications in the Presence of Realistic Noisy Entanglement
2022 To realize the Quantum Internet, quantum
communications require pre-shared entanglement among quantum nodes. However, both the generation and the distribution
of the maximally-entangled quantum states are inherently contaminated by quantum decoherence. Conventionally, the quantum
decoherence is mitigated by performing the consecutive steps of
quantum entanglement distillation followed by quantum teleportation. However, this conventional approach imposes a long delay.
To circumvent this impediment, we propose a novel quantum
communication scheme relying on realistic noisy pre-shared
entanglement, which eliminates the sequential steps imposing
delay in the standard approach. More precisely, our proposed
scheme can be viewed as a direct quantum communication
scheme capable of improving the quantum bit error ratio (QBER)
of the logical qubits despite relying on realistic noisy pre-shared
entanglement. Our performance analysis shows that the proposed
scheme offers competitive QBER, yield, and goodput compared
to the existing state-of-the-art quantum communication schemes,
despite requiring fewer quantum gates.

iRestroom : A smart restroom cyberinfrastructure for elderly people
iRestroom: زیرساخت سایبری سرویس بهداشتی هوشمند برای افراد مسن-2022 According to a report by UN and WHO, by 2030 the number of senior people (age over 65) is
projected to grow up to 1.4 billion, and which is nearly 16.5% of the global population. Seniors
who live alone must have their health state closely monitored to avoid unexpected events (such as
a fall). This study explains the underlying principles, methodology, and research that went into
developing the concept, as well as the need for and scopes of a restroom cyberinfrastructure
system, that we call as iRestroom to assess the frailty of elderly people for them to live a
comfortable, independent, and secure life at home. The proposed restroom idea is based on the
required situations, which are determined by user study, socio-cultural and technological trends,
and user requirements. The iRestroom is designed as a multi-sensory place with interconnected
devices where carriers of older persons can access interactive material and services throughout
their everyday activities. The prototype is then tested at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. A Nave
Bayes classifier is utilized to anticipate the locations of the sensors, which serves to provide a
constantly updated reference for the data originating from numerous sensors and devices installed
in different locations throughout the restroom. A small sample of pilot data was obtained, as well
as pertinent web data. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) has approved all the methods. keywords: اینترنت اشیا | حسگرها | نگهداری از سالمندان | سیستم های هوشمند | یادگیری ماشین | IoT | Sensors | Elder Care | Smart Systems | Machine Learning |

Is the Internet of Things a helpful employee? An exploratory study of discourses of Canadian farmers
2022 The increasing global population and the growing demand for high-quality products have called
for the modernization of agriculture. “Internet of Things” is one of the technologies that is pre-
dicted to offer many solutions. We conducted a discourse analysis of 19 interviews with farmers in
Ontario, Canada, asking them to describe their experience of working with IoT and related
technologies. One main discourse with two opposing tendencies was identified: farmers recognize
their relationship with IoT and related technology and view technology as a kind of “employee”,
but some tend to emphasize (1) an optimistic view which is discourse of technology is a “Helpful
Employee”; while others tend to emphasize (2) a pessimistic view which is a discourse of tech-
nology is an “Untrustworthy Employee”. We examine these tendencies in the light of the literature
on organizational behavior and identify potential outcomes of these beliefs. The results suggest
that a farmer’s style of approaching technology can be assessed on a similar scale as managers’
view of their employees and provide a framework for further research. keywords: فناوری اینترنت اشیا | کشاورزی | تحلیل گفتمان | سبک استفاده از تکنولوژی | Internet of things technology | Agriculture | Discourse analysis | Style of use of technology |

The physical and mechanical properties for flexible biomass particles using computer vision
2022 The combustion and fluidization behavior of biomass depend on the physical properties (size, morphology, and
density) and mechanical performances (elastic modulus, Poisson’s ratio, tensile strength and failure strain), but
their quantitative models have rarely been focused in previous researchers. Hence, a static image measurement
for particle physical properties is studied. Combining the uniaxial tension and digital image correlation tech-
nology, the dynamic image measurement method for the mechanical properties is proposed. The results indicate
that the average roundness, rectangularity, and sphericity of present biomass particles are 0.2, 0.4, and 0.16,
respectively. The equivalent diameter and density obey the skewed normal distribution. The tensile strength and
failure stress are sensitive to stretching rate, fiber size and orientation. The distribution intervals of elastic
modulus and Poisson’s ratio are 30–600 MPa and 0.25–0.307, respectively. The stress–strain curves obtained
from imaging experiments agree well with the result of finite element method. This study provides the operating
parameters for the numerical simulation of particles in the fluidized bed and combustor. Furthermore, the
computer vision measurement method can be extended to the investigations of fossil fuels. keywords: ذرات زیست توده | مشخصات فیزیکی | اجرای مکانیکی | تست کشش | آزمایش تصویربرداری | بینایی کامپیوتر | Biomass particle | Physical properties | Mechanical performances | Tensile testing | Imaging experiment | Computer vision |

Head tremor in cervical dystonia: Quantifying severity with computer vision
2022 Background: Head tremor (HT) is a common feature of cervical dystonia (CD), usually quantified by subjective
observation. Technological developments offer alternatives for measuring HT severity that are objective and
amenable to automation.
Objectives: Our objectives were to develop CMOR (Computational Motor Objective Rater; a computer vision-
based software system) to quantify oscillatory and directional aspects of HT from video recordings during a
clinical examination and to test its convergent validity with clinical rating scales.
Methods: For 93 participants with isolated CD and HT enrolled by the Dystonia Coalition, we analyzed video
recordings from an examination segment in which participants were instructed to let their head drift to its most
comfortable dystonic position. We evaluated peak power, frequency, and directional dominance, and used
Spearman’s correlation to measure the agreement between CMOR and clinical ratings.
Results: Power averaged 0.90 (SD 1.80) deg2/Hz, and peak frequency 1.95 (SD 0.94) Hz. The dominant HT axis
was pitch (antero/retrocollis) for 50%, roll (laterocollis) for 6%, and yaw (torticollis) for 44% of participants.
One-sided t-tests showed substantial contributions from the secondary (t = 18.17, p < 0.0001) and tertiary (t =
12.89, p < 0.0001) HT axes. CMOR’s HT severity measure positively correlated with the HT item on the Toronto
Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale-2 (Spearman’s rho = 0.54, p < 0.001).
Conclusions: We demonstrate a new objective method to measure HT severity that requires only conventional
video recordings, quantifies the complexities of HT in CD, and exhibits convergent validity with clinical severity

Efficient Quantum Network Communication Using Optimized Entanglement Swapping Trees
2022 Quantum network communication is challenging, as the no-cloning theorem in the quantum
regime makes many classical techniques inapplicable; in particular, the direct transmission of qubit states
over long distances is infeasible due to unrecoverable errors. For the long-distance communication of
unknown quantum states, the only viable communication approach (assuming local operations and classical
communications) is the teleportation of quantum states, which requires a prior distribution of the entangled
pairs (EPs) of qubits. The establishment of EPs across remote nodes can incur significant latency due to the
low probability of success of the underlying physical processes. The focus of our work is to develop efficient
techniques that minimize EP generation latency. Prior works have focused on selecting entanglement paths;
in contrast, we select entanglement swapping trees—a more accurate representation of the entanglement
generation structure. We develop a dynamic programming algorithm to select an optimal swapping tree for a
single pair of nodes, under the given capacity and fidelity constraints. For the general setting, we develop an
efficient iterative algorithm to compute a set of swapping trees. We present simulation results, which show
that our solutions outperform the prior approaches by an order of magnitude and are viable for long-distance
entanglement generation.

AI-based computer vision using deep learning in 6G wireless networks
6G-2022 Modern businesses benefit significantly from advances in computer vision technology, one of the
important sectors of artificially intelligent and computer science research. Advanced computer
vision issues like image processing, object recognition, and biometric authentication can benefit
from using deep learning methods. As smart devices and facilities advance rapidly, current net-
works such as 4 G and the forthcoming 5 G networks may not adapt to the rapidly increasing
demand. Classification of images, object classification, and facial recognition software are some
of the most difficult computer vision problems that can be solved using deep learning methods. As
a new paradigm for 6Core network design and analysis, artificial intelligence (AI) has recently
been used. Therefore, in this paper, the 6 G wireless network is used along with Deep Learning to
solve the above challenges by introducing a new methodology named Optimizing Computer
Vision with AI-enabled technology (OCV-AI). This research uses deep learning – efficiency al-
gorithms (DL-EA) for computer vision to address the issues mentioned and improve the system’s
outcome. Therefore, deep learning 6 G proposed frameworks (Dl-6 G) are suggested in this paper
to recognize pattern recognition and intelligent management systems and provide driven meth-
odology planned to be provisioned automatically. For Advanced analytics wise, 6 G networks can
summarize the significant areas for future research and potential solutions, including image
enhancement, machine vision, and access control. keywords: SHG | ارتباطات بی سیم | هوش مصنوعی | فراگیری ماشین | یادگیری عمیق | ارتباطات سیار | 6G | Wireless communication | AI | Machine learning | Deep learning | Mobile communication |

EntangleNetSat: A Satellite-Based Entanglement Resupply Network
-2022 In the practical context of quantum networks, quantum teleportation plays a key role in
transmitting quantum information. In the process of teleportation, a maximally entangled pair is consumed.
Through this paper, an efficient scheme of re-establishing entanglement between different nodes in a
quantum network is explored. A hybrid land-satellite network is considered, where the land-based links
are used for short-range communication, and the satellite links are used for transmissions between distant
nodes. This new scheme explores many different possibilities of resupplying the land nodes with entangled
pairs, depending on: the position of the satellites, the number of pairs available and the distance between
the nodes themselves. As to make the entire process as efficient as possible, we consider the situations of
direct transmissions of entangled photons and also the transmissions making use of entanglement swapping.
An analysis is presented for concrete scenarios, sustained by numerical data.
