Determinants of schooling and academic achievements: Comparison between children with and without disabilities in India
عوامل تعیین کننده مدرسه رفتن و موفقیت های علمی: مقایسه بین بچه های با و بدون ناتوانی در هند-2018 Using nationally representative data from the 2005 India Human Development Survey, we identified the determinants of children’s school progression and academic achievements. Results revealed important dynamics of disability and income, both negative in educational attainment, completion, dropout and academic achievements. The effect of father’s education was small when it interacted with children’s disability whereas mother’s education had a positive association in secondary school completion as well as reading and writing skills. Policies addressing disability based discrimination, accessibility of school environment and social protection schemes are recommended to improve the education of children with disabilities.

Do dropout and environmental factors matter? A directional distance function assessment of tunisian education efficiency
آیا ترک تحصیل و عوامل محیطی مهم هستند؟ یک بررسی روی تابع فاصله هدایتی کارآمدی آموزش تونس-2018 The purpose of this paper is to investigate the education efficiency in Tunisia based on a sample of secondary schools. We place some special focus on schools resources and corresponding dropout levels. We use the Directional Distance Function (DDF) methodology to simultaneously deal with bad outputs and non-discretionary inputs. Our assessment is based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. The data is extracted from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2012 survey. We generate four models through various inputs and outputs specifications while considering dropout levels and education environment. Our empirical study reveals strong influence between education performance and both school infrastructure and educational resources. In particular, the financial constraints seem to have real effect on the dropout levels.

Testing a path-analytic model of adult dropout in online degree programs
بررسی یک مدل تحلیل مسیر در ترک تحصیل بزرگسال در برنامه های درجه آنلاین-2018 Using large samples from multiple online degree programs, this study aimed to empirically identify the direct and indirect relationships between major adult dropout factors (i.e., basic scholastic aptitude, physical constraints, interaction with course content, satisfaction, and GPA) and provide educational practitioners with insights that will enable them to indirectly handle uncontrollable adult dropout factors based on the empirical evidence. To achieve these purposes, we formulated and empirically tested a hypothesized path model encompassing multiple hypotheses derived from related literature. We found that the physical constraints variable has statistically significant direct and indirect relationships through interactions with course content, satisfaction, and GPA with adult students’ dropout decisions, and the basic scholastic aptitude variable has an indirect relationship with dropout decisions through interactions with course content and GPA. This paper concludes by discussing the implications of our findings for educational practitioners in online degree programs.

Is the learning crisis responsible for school dropout? A longitudinal study of Andhra Pradesh, India
آیا بحران یادگیری مسئول ترک تحصیل است؟ یک مطالعه طولی آندرا پرادش، هند-2018 Having achieved remarkable improvements in basic education, India now faces the issues of low learning levels, and a high dropout rate. This paper examines whether the learning crisis is responsible for students dropping out of school using unique panel data that followed nearly 1000 Indian children from 2002 to 2013. We discover that literacy skills acquired by the age of 12 have long-lasting, positive effects on subsequent school progression. We also find that local job opportunities influence school progression. Further, we find that time spent on household chores negatively affects literacy acquirement during primary school years.

Arts education and the high school dropout problem
آموزش هنر و مشکل ترک تحصیل دبیرستان-2015 Arts education advocates belief that quality education in the arts can
engage at-risk students in ways other subjects cannot and is therefore an important
tool in preventing high school dropout. Although some studies point to lower
dropout rates, most do not follow a large number of students over time or account
for student and school characteristics expected to influence one’s educational path.
We fill this gap in the current literature by tracking nearly 175,000 first-time 9thgraders for 5 years using survival analysis with longitudinal administrative data
from Texas. We find that cumulative credits in the arts are consistently associated
with reduced dropout, even after controlling for prior achievement and contemporaneous course completion in core subjects. Our results provide evidence that the
arts are a potential lever in education reform. Experimental and/or quasi-experimental research studies are needed to isolate the salient conditions under which arts
participation can reduce dropout.
