1 Community knowledge, attitudes and practices towards environmental conservation: Assessing influencing factors in Jor Bay Lombok Indonesia

Local people surroundings Jor Bay in Lombok, Indonesia, have an established knowledge system, which role an important factor that determines the success of bay management. Knowledge, attitudes, and management practices by the community significantly affect the effectiveness of Jor Bay management. The study aims to identify knowledge systems and community management practices in conserving marine resources of Jor Bay which are related to the effectiveness of management of the bay, as well as identifying factors that influence KAP in the management of Jor Bay. This study uses a mix-approach both quantitative and qualitative, with statistical tests. Data collected using a questionnaire. The study found that there were gaps between community knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Community knowledge and attitudes aspects are in the medium category, while com- munity practices are low. Socio-economic factors, which are education, age, and occupation, were affected by KAP status. The community knowledge system is a significant factor that influencing succeeds the bay man- agement. In Jor Bay, fishers are the most active bay users and closest to bay resources; paradoxically, the fisher has the lowest KAP level than other occupations. An adaptive management change in socio-economic, cultural, and knowledge system-based strategy is needed to improve Jor Bay conservation and management.

2 A Training Framework for the Synthesis of a Consistent System of Objectives in Modular Design

Modular design (MD) enables a set of methods to reduce development costs. There are extensive scientific findings on MD, but in practice, many companies still find it difficult to harvest the full potential of introducing and sustaining MD. One challenge are the highly interactive objectives of MD and the associated products. These different objectives have to be managed in such a way that a consistent System of Objectives is created. To this end, the various stakeholders can develop a common understanding in their MD processes. Consequently, a framework to support a consistent System of Objectives in MD can support this. In this paper a demand and target group oriented training concept to bridge this gap between theoretical findings and in practice-exploited potential as well as to improve the introduction and sustaining of MD is introduced. An important cross-functional insight is thereby how training concepts for Systems of Objectives in modular development can be designed. With expert interviews different requirements, such as “corporate structure”, “dealing with conflicting objectives”, “temporal robustness of products against changes”, “product configuration”, “change management”, “product architecture” and “process integration of suppliers” were identified. Based on these findings a three-stage framework was developed to identify the relevant fields of knowledge for each training concept individually. The training is based on a multi-media approach with participative learning and gamification elements. The concept is modular and round-based, so that the difficulty level can be increased in each round, in order to maximize training effects. It focuses on intra-corporate stakeholder management and communication between different disciplines, such as management and engineering.

3 Innovation, quality management and learning: Short-term and longer-term effects

Quality-orientated management change and innovation are central strategies for firms. Implementing both quality improvement and innovation poses significant managerial, organisational and technical challenges, and may also involve significant lags before benefits are realised. Here, using data on a large group of Irish manu facturing plants and econometric analysis, we establish the short- and longer-term influence of plants’ adoption of quality improvement methods (QIMs) on product innovation performance. Our study highlights the short term disruptive and longer-term beneficial effects of QIM adoption on product innovation performance. In ad dition, we find evidence of complementarities and learning-by-using effects from QIM adoption. Our results suggest that maximising the returns to innovation and quality improvement requires consideration of the soft and/or hard nature of individual QIMs and the timing and sequencing of their adoption.

4 Evaluation of how a curriculum change in nurse education was managed through the application of a business change management model: A qualitative case study

Background: Curriculum changes are a regular feature of nurse education, yet little is known about how such changes are managed. Research in this arena is yet to emerge. Objective: Evaluation of how a curriculum change in nurse education was managed through the application of a business change management model. Method: A qualitative case study: the single case was the new curriculum, the Primary Care Pathway. Participants and Setting: One executive, three senior managers, two academics and nineteen students participated in this study in one faculty of health and social care in a higher education institution. Results: The findings suggest that leadership was pivotal to the inception of the programme and guiding teams managed the change and did not take on a leadership role. The vision for the change and efforts to communicate it did not reach the frontline. Whilst empowerment was high amongst stakeholders and students, academics felt dis-empowered. Short-term wins were not significant in keeping up the momentum of change. The credibility of the change was under challenge and the concept of the new programme was not yet embedded in academia. Conclusion: Differences between the strategic and operational part of the organisation surfaced with many challenges occurring at the implementation stage. The business change model used was valuable, but was found to not be applicable during curriculum changes in nurse education. A new change model emerged, and a tool was developed alongside to aid future curriculum changes.

در دهه های گذشته مهندسی مجدد فرایندهای کسب و کار BPR)) بعنوان یک رویکرد محبوب برای بهتر کردن بازدهی و بهره وری ارگانها شناخته شده است . انجام بررسی بر روی مقالات مرتبط با BPR نشان میدهد که مدلهای موجود BPR که بطور گسترده ای مورد استفاده قرار میگیرند دارای محدودیتهایی میباشند و ملاحظات مربوط به فاکتورهای انسانی و دیدگاههای تغییر مدیریت را مد نظر قرار نداده اند. مطالعات آکادمیک و بررسی های انجام شده در صنعت نشان داده اند که دو گپ اساسی وجود دارد. این مقاله فرایندهای مدل BPR که مدل حلزونی یکپارچه مهندسی مجدد فرآیند (PRISM) نامیده میشود بررسی میشود. PRISM یک مدل حلزونی سیستماتیک است که میتواند شانس سازمانها برای انجام موفق پروژه ها و نیز ایجاد نواوری در BPR را افزایش دهد.
