iRestroom : A smart restroom cyberinfrastructure for elderly people
iRestroom: زیرساخت سایبری سرویس بهداشتی هوشمند برای افراد مسن-2022 According to a report by UN and WHO, by 2030 the number of senior people (age over 65) is
projected to grow up to 1.4 billion, and which is nearly 16.5% of the global population. Seniors
who live alone must have their health state closely monitored to avoid unexpected events (such as
a fall). This study explains the underlying principles, methodology, and research that went into
developing the concept, as well as the need for and scopes of a restroom cyberinfrastructure
system, that we call as iRestroom to assess the frailty of elderly people for them to live a
comfortable, independent, and secure life at home. The proposed restroom idea is based on the
required situations, which are determined by user study, socio-cultural and technological trends,
and user requirements. The iRestroom is designed as a multi-sensory place with interconnected
devices where carriers of older persons can access interactive material and services throughout
their everyday activities. The prototype is then tested at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. A Nave
Bayes classifier is utilized to anticipate the locations of the sensors, which serves to provide a
constantly updated reference for the data originating from numerous sensors and devices installed
in different locations throughout the restroom. A small sample of pilot data was obtained, as well

A holistic approach to health and safety monitoring: Framework and technology perspective
رویکردی جامع برای نظارت بر سلامت و ایمنی: چارچوب و دیدگاه فناوری-2022 Existing H&S monitoring methods are manual, cumbersome, time consuming and issues with
safety compliance and use of PPE remain a concern. With the existing manual H&S processes,
there are significant delays and, in some cases, even failure to report incidences, resulting in no or
slow improvements to safety. This paper proposes a prototype PPE access monitoring system
which combines smart PPE and an indoor/outdoor personnel location monitoring system. The
paper also proposes a generic framework to be used for smart gateway services within a
manufacturing site to augment and enable smart PPE, separating areas of high and low risk. The
prototype automated PPE detection gate presents a practical use of the framework and demon-
strates a suitable method for assessing workforce/visitor PPE compliance. Its secondary function
is to act as a location waypoint system to support other location tracking methods, identified in
the literature and throughout the testing protocol. The system could be further adapted to support
augmented personnel within the Operator 4.0 paradigm to improve site safety, monitoring and

Intellectual engagements of accounting academics: The ‘forecasted losses intervention
تعاملات ذهنی دانشگاهی حسابداری: مداخله زیان پیش بینی شده-2021 This paper explores the social and political potential of accounting scholarship, presenting and
discussing an intellectual intervention challenging a legislative reform that significantly affected
Spanish industrial relations. In this reform, an accounting artifact (forecasted losses) played an
unexpected role and was misrepresented, prompting a sizeable number of scholars to sign two
manifestos in 2010 and 2012 against the use of forecasted losses made by the new legislation. As
promoters of this manifesto, we perform in this paper a collaborative autoethnography to reflect
on the context, events, reactions, and significance of this intervention for both the academic and
the industrial relations fields. We mobilize Pierre Bourdieu’s ideas on the public intellectual to
think more generally about academic engagements in the interplay between accounting, poli-
cymaking, and social issues. This intervention illustrates the different manners in which admin-
istrative and economic powers interfered in the Spanish accounting academic field, limiting the
disposition of Spanish scholars to engage in public debates. We also interpret our engagement as
mobilizing intellectual capital to expose how the notion of forecasted losses was used to produce a
form of symbolic violence and how this capital is more effective as it produces messages

Disaster management training in the euregio-meuse-rhine: What can we learn from each other to improve cross-border practices?

might not halt at administrative borders. Cross-border coordination is therefore required. As integral part of
cross-border collaborations initiative in the Meuse–Rhine Euregio (EMR), we reviewed published evidence
informing on existing initiatives dedicated to disaster education in the EMR. A search based on the PRISMA
guidelines for scoping reviews was conducted to retrieve articles in the following databases: Medline, PsychInfo
and Scopus. The searches were limited to English, French, Dutch and German language articles and the period
between January 2010 and June 2019. No restrictions were set for the study design or the type of methodology
used. A total of 18 articles met the inclusion criteria out of a total of 1771 publications. Training development
was found in two studies while nine studies focused on the state of knowledge in disaster management. Seven
articles referred only to technical skills, three only to non-technical skills and eight combined both types of skills.
For the technical nature, Knowledge was found seven times, Skills five times and Attitudes twice. On the non-
technical side, Knowledge was found three and both Skills twice and Attitudes three times. Five studies
trained and assessed all the Knowledge, skills and attitudes. Most of the studies constitute inventories with
descriptive reporting and very few experimental studies of quality have been carried. Non-technical skills for
disaster preparedness have been well considered among the articles. Cross-border collaboration needs to be

Dynamic resilience for biological wastewater treatment processes: Interpreting data for process management and the potential for knowledge discovery

increasingly stressed, especially in countries like the UK, where many of these systems date back to the early part
of the 20th century. Understanding resilience dynamics for these ageing wastewater assets represents a funda-
mental step in classifying multi-dimensional water stressors toward preventing severe pollution incidents. This
paper explores the potential of a novel dynamic resilience approach to assess and predict the dynamic resilience
of biological wastewater treatment based on the separation of stressor events (cause) and process stress (effect) to
consider the deviation from reference conditions. The approach presented provides a fundamental link between
(1) conventional activated sludge modelling methodologies, (2) actual biological wastewater process instrument
data (potential for knowledge discovery) and (3) the characterisation of dynamic resilience in wastewater
treatment processes. Results first present the dynamic resilience approach by modelling simulated shock flow
conditions on an activated sludge plant, then incorporates ten years of wastewater process instrument data to
demonstrate the actual dynamic resilience. The aim is to represent the “dynamic resilience” as self-ordering
windows, a visual knowledge base (three dimensional, heat map), which operational staff can easily interpret.
The outcomes presented suggest that such an approach is feasible and has the potential for real-time identifi-
cation of conditions that result in pollution incidents based on actual historical process instrument data
(knowledge discovery). Also, the methods presented could be extended to develop an improved understanding of

Knowledge spillover, knowledge management capabilities, and innovation among returnee entrepreneurial firms in emerging markets: Does entrepreneurial ecosystem matter?

has focused on how returnee entrepreneurial firms can transit knowledge to local firms with the assumption that
the former are more innovative than the latter. However, returnee entrepreneurial firms themselves experience
difficulties in achieving superior innovation performance as they face liabilities when returning to their home
countries. In this paper, we argue that such firms can take advantage of the knowledge spillover in the entre-
preneurial ecosystem to promote innovation performance by enhancing their own knowledge management
capability. The empirical evidence supports this proposition. Although we proposed that this relationship is likely
contingent upon the attributes of entrepreneurial ecosystem, empirical evidence does not support it. Theoretical

Accounting for uncertainties due to high-impact low-probability events in power system development

balance between grid investment costs and security of supply, including the risk of power supply interruptions.
Cost-benefit analyses conducted for this purpose are associated with many uncertainties but have traditionally
focused on the expected value of the net socio-economic benefits of risk-reducing measures. This article focuses
on the large uncertainties that are associated with the possible occurrence of high-impact low-probability
interruption events (HILP events). The objective is to quantify and visualize the implications of uncertainties due
to HILP events in the context of power system development. More specifically, this article describes a method-
ology accounting for uncertainties in socio-economic cost-benefit analysis of measures for reducing the risk of
HILP events. The methodology accounts for the contributions of both aleatory and epistemic uncertainties and
comprises a hybrid probabilistic-possibilistic uncertainty analysis method. Applying the methodology to a real
case involving a grid investment decision, it is demonstrated how it provides additional insight compared to
conventional cost-benefit analyses considering expected values where uncertainties are not accounted for
explicitly. A knowledge-based Digital Shadow for machining industry in a Digital Twin perspective

of Digital Shadow (DS) which would be considered as the core component of a future Digital Twin. Knowledge
generated by experts and artificial intelligence, is transformed into formal business rules and integrated into the
DS to enable the characterization of the real behavior of the physical system throughout its operation stage. This
behavior model is continuously enriched by direct or derived learning, in order to improve the digital twin. The
proposed DS relies on data analytics (based on unsupervised learning) and on a knowledge inference engine. It
enables the incidents to be detected and it is also able to decipher its operational context. An example of this
application in the aeronautic machining industry is provided to stress both the feasibility of the proposition and
