Information systems action research: Debunking myths and overcoming barriers
تحقیقات کنش های سیستم های اطلاعاتی: آگاه کردن از اسطوره ها و غلبه بر موانع-2018 The relevance of action research as a research method in the information systems (IS) discipline is not disputed. Nevertheless, the extent to which action research is published in good journals is infrequent enough to indicate a serious problem. In this article, we explore the reasons underlying this situation and make recommendations aiming to increase both the practice and the publication of action research. To identify both the barriers to undertaking action research and potential ways of overcoming those barriers, we survey 218 authors of 120 articles demonstrating empirical action research published in 12 of our good journals during the period 1982–2016. We received 70 usable responses. We also surveyed 52 editors of selected IS journals and received 25 usable responses. Our findings are revealing as they indicate both genuine barriers associated with action research and some apparent barriers that are in reality misperceptions or myths. In reflecting on these, we emphasize the special qualities of action research. We also reflect on the critical role that action research plays in the IS field as a whole and its potential for further contributions to research and practice, given the strong and close connections with organizational problem contexts that action research requires. Finally, we make a number of recommendations that are designed to increase the incidence of action research in the IS discipline

Effects of group arguments on rumor belief and transmission in online communities: An information cascade and group polarization perspective
تاثیرات بحث های گروهی روی باور و انتقال شایعه در جوامع آنلاین: یک دیدگاه آبشار اطلاعات و قطبی سازی گروهی-2018 The proliferation of the Internet and online communities has greatly increased the number and transmission speed of online rumors. To take more effective measures to counter the negative effects of these rumors, researchers and companies should understand the underlying mechanism of online rumor transmission. Therefore, this study takes an early initiative by focusing on users’ arguments in online discussion forums on the rumors and their effects on an individual’s belief in rumor and belief change, which is guided by the informational cascade and group polarization theories. In turn, belief and belief change on the online rumor lead to intention to spread the rumor. A lab experiment was conducted to test research hypotheses. The results, implications, limitations of the study, and conclusion are presented.

Self-control, organizational context, and rational choice in Internet abuses at work
خود-کنترلی، زمینه سازمانی، و انتخاب منطقی در سوء استفاده های اینترنتی در کار-2018 Cyber criminals use the Internet as a major platform to launch malware and social engineering attacks. Employees’ violation of Internet use policy (IUP) elevates a firm’s security risks from cyber-attacks. In the literature, such deviant behavior is generally considered to be the result of a cost-benefit calculus. However, this study shows that dispositional factors such as self-control and procedural justice moderate the cost-benefit calculus. We conclude that self-control and procedural justice need to be integrated with the Rational Choice Theory to better explain Internet abuses at work.

Revisiting the cluster-based paradigm for implicit search result diversification
بررسی مجدد الگوی مبتنی بر خوشه برای تنوع نتیجه جستجوی ضمنی-2018 To cope with ambiguous and/or underspecified queries, search result diversification (SRD) is a key technique that has attracted a lot of attention. This paper focuses on implicit SRD, where the subtopics underlying a query are unknown. Many existing methods appeal to the greedy strategy for generating diversified results. A common practice is using a heuristic criterion for making the locally optimal choice at each round. As a result, it is difficult to know whether the failures are caused by the optimization criterion or the setting of parameters. Different from previous studies, we formulate implicit SRD as a process of selecting and ranking k exemplar documents through integer linear programming (ILP). The key idea is that: for a specific query, we expect to maximize the overall relevance of the k exemplar documents. Meanwhile, we wish to maximize the representativeness of the selected exemplar documents with respect to the non-selected documents. Intuitively, if the selected exemplar documents concisely represent the entire set of documents, the novelty and diversity will naturally arise. Moreover, we propose two approaches ILP4ID (Integer Linear Programming for Implicit SRD) and AP4ID (Affinity Propagation for Implicit SRD) for solving the proposed formulation of implicit SRD. In particular, ILP4ID appeals to the strategy of bound-and-branch and is able to obtain the optimal solution. AP4ID being an approximate method transforms the target problem as a maximum-a-posteriori inference problem, and the message passing algorithm is adopted to find the solution. Furthermore, we investigate the differences and connections between the proposed models and prior models by casting them as different variants of the cluster-based paradigm for implicit SRD. To validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approaches, we conduct a series of experiments on four benchmark TREC diversity collections. The experimental results demonstrate that: (1) The proposed methods, especially ILP4ID, can achieve substantially improved performance over the state-of-the-art unsupervised methods for implicit SRD. (2) The initial runs, the number of input documents, query types, the ways of computing document similarity, the pre-defined cluster number and the optimization algorithm significantly affect the performance of diversification models. Careful examinations of these factors are highly recommended in the development of implicit SRD methods. Based on the in-depth study of different types of methods for implicit SRD, we provide additional insight into the cluster-based paradigm for implicit SRD. In particular, how the methods relying on greedy strategies impact the performance of implicit SRD, and how a particular diversification model should be fine-tuned.

Leveraging exploratory search with personality traits and interactional context
اهرم بندی جستجوی توضیحی با ویژگی های شخصیتی و زمینه تعاملی-2018 Exploratory search is a type of information seeking used by searchers who are either unfamiliar with the domain of their goal, are unsure about the ways to achieve their goals or uncertain about their goals in the first place. We present a method that utilizes interactional context and personality information in order to proactively prompt users to undertake actions for improving exploratory search and its outcome. Our approach is based on inferring exploration patterns based on the logged past behavior of users in order to produce models of behavior, which in turn are used to predict the next action in the current context. The user is classified into specific groups of users that share personality traits for which we have analyzed their search behaviors. At the same time, we assume that the users who belong within the same group show similar exploration tactics to reach their goal such as the sequence of actions performed. Having the models, we show how we can predict the next interaction of the user given a specific sequence of actions of the current session. In this way, we assist users in their exploration process and act proactively by providing meaningful recommendations and prompts towards possibly undiscovered facets of the topic under investigation.

Collaborating to innovate: Effects on customer knowledge management and performance
همکاری به نوآوری: بررسی اثر بر مدیریت دانش و کارایی مشتری-2015 Scholars regard customer knowledge management (CKM) as a strategic resource for businesses to improve inno
vation, facilitate the detection of new market opportunities, and support long-term customer relationship man
agement. However, literature suffers from a lack of understanding of customer collaboration's role in the
innovation process and innovation orientation in CKM. Accordingly, this paper tests a model examining how
both variables act as antecedents of CKM. The model also explores CKM and customer collaboration's effect on
marketing results. Findings have important academic and managerial implications, and show that collaboration
with customers and openness to innovation are key inputs because of their effects on CKM and marketing results

Knowledge management as a strategy for the administration of education in the Research University
مدیریت دانش به عنوان یک استراتژی برای مدیریت آموزش و پرورش در تحقیقات دانشگاه-2015 The article studies the substantiation of the changes in the Classical University when its liberal model is transforming into the
pragmatic model in modern knowledge society. The content of pragmatic model (commercialization of knowledge, education
market, competitions) is against its classical model. Therefore, there is a need to clarify the criteria of the Classical University.
The corporate culture is considered as its new criterion. The corporate culture aimed towards shaping of the professional and
the person who is relevant to the modern knowledge society. Therefore, the modern Research University continues the
traditional Idea of the Classical University in conditions of information (knowledge) society. Secondly, new strategy for the
management of education in the Research University is the knowledge management. Thirdly, the corporate culture of the
Research University can join complementarily the classical criteria of University and modern orientation to the market and
commercialization of education. The specific content of the corporate culture as a new criterion of the University is relevant
to the conditions of information or knowledge society. The corporate culture of the Research University provides not only
competitiveness of professional, but also in its spiritual and moral characteristics.

Nannies’ Knowledge, Attitude, and Management o f Food Allergies of Children: An Online Survey
آگاهی، نگرش، و مدیریت دایه-2015 BACKGROUND: Rates of food allergies in children as well as
the rate of families who employ nannies have increased
dramatically over the past decade. It is essential that nannies
have the knowledge and tools necessary to recognize and treat
food allergy reactions.
OBJECTIVE: To identify gaps in knowledge in the nanny
population with regard to food allergy in children.
METHODS: A Web-based survey was sent by e-mail to 709 nannies.
RESULTS: A total of 153 nannies (22%) completed the online
survey: 26% of respondents had formal educational training at a
nanny school; 99% recognized food allergy as a potentially fatal
event; 37% reported caring for a child with food allergies. Of
these, 71% had food allergy action plans, and 63% had
epinephrine available. A total of 71% reported training on
administering epinephrine. The nannies’ major concerns
included accidental ingestion and discomfort in administering
epinephrine. A total of 36% were uncomfortable with
recognizing a food allergy emergency, whereas 46% were
uncomfortable administering epinephrine; 6% thought that a
sensitized child could safely eat a small amount of allergenic
food, whereas 14% believed that dilution with water might
reduce an allergic reaction. A total of 66% desired additional
information about recognizing food allergies, and 71% agreed
that food allergy training should be required for all nannies.
CONCLUSION: Nannies demonstrated gaps in knowledge with
regard to food allergy in children, which refl ects the need for
more stringent training and education. Increased
communication among parents, nannies, and physicians is
needed to protect children with food allergy

Collective symbolic capital and sustainability: Governing fishing communities in a knowledge economy
سرمایه جمعی و پایداری نمادین: جوامع صیادی حاکم در اقتصاد دانش-2015 The sustainable management of shared fishery resources remains a research concern despite the
theoretical advances of recent decades. In the context of globalization, governance of fisheries resources
cannot be conceived aside from a general restructuring of the value chain and without taking into
account the evolution of the standard of living of fishing communities. This paper argues that in
knowledge-based economies, value creation is based on proper management of the friction between
material and immaterial vectors associated with the activity of fisheries. The case study of the shellfish
community of Carril in northwestern Spain is presented and analyzed, setting out potential labeling
alternatives to empower local producers.

Information culture and its influences in knowledge creation: Evidence from university teams engaged in collaborative innovation projects
فرهنگ اطلاعات و تأثیرات آن در خلق دانش: شواهدی از تیم دانشگاه درگیر در پروژه های نوآوری و همکاری-2015 This paper empirically analyzes the typology of information cultures (TICs) developed by Choo ((2013).
International Journal of Information Management, 33, 775). The primary objective is to identify information behaviors and values that could describe the information culture in the context of project team
work while knowledge creation occurs, resulting in technological innovation. The secondary aim is to
find resulting relationships between the TICs and the modes ofknowledge conversion. Twelve university
project teams were selected to participate in the study. The teams are part of the Partnership for Technological Innovation Research Program (PITE) from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Brazil.
The qualitative technique of categorical content analysis was used. The data analysis is based on a set
of five attributes: (i) the primary goal of information management; (ii) information values and norms;
(iii) information behaviors in terms of information needs, (iv) information seeking, and (v) information
use. The main results are twofold. First, we confirmed the existence of two dominant culture profiles, as
hypothesized by Choo ((2013). International Journal ofInformation Management, 33, 775). Second, results
also showed plausible relationships between the risk-taking culture and externalization of knowledge;
the rule-following culture and the combination ofknowledge; result-oriented culture and internalization
of knowledge; and the relationship-based culture and socialization of knowledge.
