1 Hybrid governance and performances of environmental accounting
Multiple centers of authority in hybrid forms create conditions of radical openness where questions of value and fitness are in flux. Environmental accounting is suggested as a condition for steadying hybrid forms and opening up possibilities for institutional innovations. This paper advances a critical social science analysis of environ- mental accounting to help specify how, when, and in what ways strengthening accounting capacity advances hybrid governance. Social studies of accounting argue that accounting systems are contingent on institutions: rules and social conventions, not only data or science. Our practice-centered analysis of two cases of building environmental accounting tools to advance high profile institutional innovations in US agri-environmental governance finds that the systems of rules that structure and legitimize accounting protocols are not pre- given. The same radical openness that presents opportunities for hybridity also reinforces uncertainties in building accounting standards. We identify two major frictions: a) Conventions for determining technical consensus and b) Rules for determining levels of transaction costs. We conclude by identifying a need to think about hybrid forms critically. Although hybrid forms are an expression of creativity and collaboration, they are also performances of a certain contemporary political covenant that delegitimizes state-centered governance. The challenge ahead is to understand when and where hybrid arrangements add to socio-ecological regulation and where they undermine the possibility of more functional approaches through a performance of seriousness.

2 R&D internationalization in medium-sized firms: The moderating role of knowledge management in enhancing innovation performances
The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between SMEs’ R&D internationalization and their innovation outcomes. Most studies on the topic focused on large multinational companies (MNCs), leaving several gaps in the literature with regard to SMEs. Using data from 106 Italian SMEs we performed an OLS regression analysis to test and find evidence of a positive linear relationship between SME’s R&D internationalization and innovation performance. In addition, we found that this relationship is positively moderated by knowledge management (KM) orientation. Main contributions are directed to the empirical test of the aforementioned relationships in a specific under developed research area, i.e. non-high tech SMEs, thus highlighting the positive effect of foreign acquisition of diverse cross-cultural knowledge on innovation. Moreover, KM orientation has been found to amplify this effect in the context of SMEs, due to a better management and integration of key internal and external knowledge.

3 Knowledge spillover, knowledge management capabilities, and innovation among returnee entrepreneurial firms in emerging markets: Does entrepreneurial ecosystem matter?
The paper brings an entrepreneurial ecosystem approach to examine the conditions under which returnee en- trepreneurs can overcome their liabilities and promote innovation in emerging markets. The existing literature has focused on how returnee entrepreneurial firms can transit knowledge to local firms with the assumption that the former are more innovative than the latter. However, returnee entrepreneurial firms themselves experience difficulties in achieving superior innovation performance as they face liabilities when returning to their home countries. In this paper, we argue that such firms can take advantage of the knowledge spillover in the entre- preneurial ecosystem to promote innovation performance by enhancing their own knowledge management capability. The empirical evidence supports this proposition. Although we proposed that this relationship is likely contingent upon the attributes of entrepreneurial ecosystem, empirical evidence does not support it. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

4 Improving high-tech enterprise innovation in big data environment: A combinative view of internal and external governance
The emergence of big data brings both opportunities and challenges to high-tech enterprises. How to keep competitive advantages and improve innovation performance is important for enterprises in big data environment. Except from organizational learning ability and the use of advanced technology, the corporate governance also plays an important role in the process of enterprise’s innovation practice. This article creatively combines with the insights of internal and external governance, and explores how the managerial power and network centrality affects enterprise’s innovation performance in big data environment. Considering about the differences among distinct regional big data environment (strong/weak), this paper also takes classification research on it. The research findings show that managerial power has a significant positive impact on innovation performance, managerial power could enhance enterprise’s centrality in network, and the enterprise which located in network central position has more advantages in obtaining resources and significantly improves firm’s innovation performance. Network centrality plays a mediating role on managerial power and innovation performance. Further research finds that the positive effects of managerial power and network centrality are more significantly in the strong big data environment. These findings enrich the research of high-tech enterprise innovation from a combinative governance view, and contribute to the literatures on enterprise innovation in big data environment

5 Big Data Analytics for Venture Capital Application:Towards Innovation Performance Improvement
By using the panel date of Chinese enterprises, this paper analyzes the influence of venture capital on innovation performance. In this paper, the number of patent application and the patent quality(invention patent applications, number of effective patents, IPC number of international patent classification, and patent claims) are used to measure the innovation performance of enterprises, and the regression results show that the innovation performance is significantly promoted by the venture capital; for industries with higher dependence on external financing and high technology intensity and areas with better protection of property rights, venture capital promotes innovation performance more significantly. In this paper, it further distinguishes the characteristics of venture capital institutions, and finds that the promotion effect of non-state-owned venture capital on innovation performance is significantly greater than that of state-owned venture capital; the venture capital institutions with high reputation and high network capital play a more significant role in promoting innovation performance.

6 Breaking through innovation barriers: Linking effectuation orientation to innovation performance
This study aims to understand how firms overcome market-based innovation barriers and achieve innovation performance using the effectuation orientation construct. In so doing, we provide more nuanced insights into how the combination of mindsets and actions helps firms to overcome barriers. Based on a quantitative research design, data from 157 established organizations show variations in how effectual actions are related to perceived innovation barriers. Among the conclusions we draw from the results is the fact that effectual contingency and effectual means orientation are negatively associated with market-based innovation barriers, which are in turn negatively associated with a firm’s innovation performance. Overall, the empirical results provide new insights into the literature of both innovation and entrepreneurship.© 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

7 External knowledge modes and firm-level innovation performance: Empirical evidence from sub-Saharan Africa
This paper examines the significance of external knowledge sources as impacting factors on innova-tion by incorporating a variety of external sourcing strategies, the firm’s internal competencies and theindustry attributes, into a unique analytical framework in predicting the innovative capabilities of firmsin developing countries. The World Bank Enterprise and Innovation follow-up dataset for manufacturing, service and retail firms in 11 countries in sub-Saharan Africa is utilised to assess the degree to which firmsutilize external sources of information (customers, competitors, consultants, new employees and work-shops) in the implementation of product, process, marketing and organizational innovation. Sectoral andcountry-specific estimations are performed with IV binary treatment and Tobit models, respectively. Thefindings demonstrate that, although internal sources are essential, external sources of information arealso necessary to attain the desired level of innovativeness. These findings confirm the open innovationliterature in that firms that open their innovation process and utilise distinct knowledge sources havea superior capability to introduce innovations. The paper provides significant contributions to the lit-erature. The paper uncovers three sources of external knowledge linking indirect players in the marketthat are not common in the literature (consultant, new employees and workshop). The study shows thatthe baggage of knowledge inherent in these three sources is indeed essential to the innovative capabil-ities of the firms. Second, the results also reveal that the essentiality of external sources of knowledgediffers conditional on the type of innovation considered (product, process, marketing or organisational),dependent variable operationalisation, sectoral, methodical configurations, and country specifics. Third, the study contributes to the understanding of how firms in emerging economies develop competenciesfor innovativeness through the interplay of knowledge from both direct and indirect market players. Thefindings offer essential insights on how management could invest in the distinct, useful and preferredexternal sources to best foster a compelling introduction of any innovation. The study further providesrobust and novel evidence of the role of new consultants, employees and workshops on firms’ propensityto innovate.

8 Assessing the impact of big data on firm innovation performance: Big data is not always better data
In this study, we explore the impacts of big data’s main characteristics (i.e., volume, variety, and velocity) on innovation performance (i.e., innovation efficacy and efficiency), which eventually impacts firm performance (i.e., customer perspective, financial returns, and operational excellence). To address this objective, we collected data from 239 managers and empirically examined the relationships in the proposed model. The results reveal that, while data variety and velocity positively enhance firm innovation performance, data volume has no significant impact. The finding that data volume does not play a critical role in enhancing firm innovation performance contributes novel insights to the literature by contradicting the prevalent belief that big data is better data. Moreover, the findings reveal that data velocity plays a more important role in improving firm innovation performance than other big data characteristics.

9 Knowledge transfer and innovation performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs): An informal economy analysis
SME operators in the informal sector of developing economies have a significant influence on their nations economies through their involvement in international business relationships. However, the existing deficiency in the literature to show empirical relationships between knowledge transfer, from these SMEs and their international business partners, and innovation performance is a significant gap in the strategic management and international business literature. Therefore, this paper explores the link between knowledge transfer and innovation performance of informal economy SMEs that are involved in international business relationships. The study included a survey of 370 owners-managers and managers of small and medium enterprises in Nigerias informal electronic market. Using Structural Equation Model (AMOS 22) this study shows that knowledge transfer dimensions, such as R&D and social networking, have varying levels of impact on innovation performance of informal sector SMEs. Knowledge transfer from training showed an inverse and insignificant relationship with innovation performance. The study established implications and recommendations that will be useful for theory and practice.
