Performance evaluation of web service response time probability distribution models for business process cycle time simulation

of building new capabilities, enhancing existing ones, and measuring process performance to identify bottlenecks. It is essential to compute the cycle time of the process to assess the performance of a business
process. The cycle time typically forms part of service level agreements (SLAs) and is a crucial contributor
to the overall user experience and productivity. The simulation technique is versatile and has broad applicability for determining realistic cycle time using historical data of web service response time. BPM tools
offer inadequate support for modeling input data used in simulation in the form of descriptive statistics or standard probability distributions like normal, lognormal, which results in inaccurate simulation
results.
Objective: We evaluate the effectiveness of different parametric and non-parametric probability distributions for modeling data of web service response time. We further assess how the choice of probability
distribution impacts the accuracy of the simulated cycle time of a business process. The work is the first
of such a study using real-world data for encouraging Business Process Simulation Specification (BPSim)
standard setters and BPM tools to enhance their support for such distributions in their simulation engine.
Method: We consider several parametric and non-parametric distributions and explore how well these
distributions fit web service response time from extensive public and a real-world dataset. The cycle time
of the business process of a real-world system is simulated using the identified distributions to model the
underlying web service data.
Results: Our results show that kernel distribution is the most suitable choice, followed by Burr. Kernel
outperforms Burr by 86.63% for the public and 84.21% for the real-world dataset. The choice of distribution affects the percentile ranks like 90 and above than the median. The use of single-point values
underestimates cycle time values at higher percentiles.
Conclusion: Based on our empirical results, we recommend the addition of kernel and Burr to the current

Advanced cyberinfrastructure for intercomparison and validation of climate models
زیرساخت های پیشرفته سایبر برای مقایسه و اعتبار مدل های آب و هوایی-2020 The current routine of comparison and validation in climate science is frequently static and of low efficiency,
which hinders evidence-based decision making and scientific confidence. Due to the aggressively increasing
resolution, complexity, and associated data volumes of climate models, objectively comparing multiple models
and assessing their accuracy against observations is an ever-increasing challenge. We propose an integrated
framework for harmonizing state-of-the-art cyberinfrastructure techniques with the user habits formed by longterm
familiarity with existing community-oriented software. An open source prototype named COVALI is
implemented and used to compare and validate the results of several widely-used climate models and datasets.
Our results show that the proposed cyberinfrastructure-based strategy can significantly automate the comparison
and validation processes in climate modeling. More importantly, the new strategy retains the existing user habits

A technology framework for remote patient care in dermatology for early diagnosis
چارچوبی فناوری برای مراقبت از راه دور بیمار در پوست برای تشخیص زودرس-2019 Healthcare in India has been organized into a three-tier structure. The Primary Health Center (PHC) is a part of
the first tier, District Hospitals are in the second tier, and the Tertiary Care Center (TCC) forms the third tier. The
PHCs have been set up to meet the healthcare requirements of the rural population, where limited diagnostic
facilities are available. The District hospitals have better diagnostic facilities as compared to the PHCs, and the
TCCs provide advanced diagnostic facilities.
Studies suggest that the rural population is significantly affected by skin diseases and requires services of
dermatologists. However, the PHCs do not have the required number of healthcare specialists, including dermatologists
to provide treatment for all patients, and they do not have sufficient diagnostic facilities to detect
skin related diseases. This lack of healthcare specialists and diagnostic facilities delays intervention and treatments
that should be administered to the patients visiting the PHCs. We can enhance the quality of service at the
PHCs by providing access to dermatologists and diagnostic facilities through Tele-dermatology, to address and
avoid this delay in the onset of intervention. This can be administered to the patient at the rural center with the
help of technology.
The proposed Tele-dermatology framework connects the PHC to the TCC, equipped with an expert system to
provide diagnostic suggestions. Patient details, along with skin lesion images, are acquired at the PHC and then
transferred over the Internet to the TCC. The TCC archives the details of a patient and processes the patient
image and text data. The expert system at the TCC derives the possible diagnosis of the case being referred. The
suggested diagnosis is communicated back to the PHC. Alternatively, the PHC can retrieve the diagnostic suggestions
from the TCC even at a later point in time. This diagnostic information would help the health worker at
the PHC to begin preventive treatment, to avoid worsening of the patient condition until a physician could
attend the case.
The implementation of the framework is done using a mobile device and Simple Object Access Protocol
(SOAP) based Web services. The developed framework could be a platform for providing suitable services and

OCPMDM: Online computation platform for materials data mining
OCPMDM: پلت فرم محاسبات آنلاین برای داده کاوی مواد-2018 With the rapid development of the Materials Genome Initiative (MGI), scientists and engineers are confronted
with the need to conduct sophisticated data analytics in modeling the behaviors of materials. Nowadays, it is
inconvenient for material researchers to carry out materials data mining work without an efficient platform for
materials machine learning. So, it is meaningful to develop an online platform for material researchers in urgent
need of using machine learning techniques by themselves. The typical case study is given to demonstrate the
applications of the online computation platform for material data mining (OCPMDM) in our lab: The quantitative
structure property relationship (QSPR) model for rapid prediction of Curie temperature of perovskite material can
be applied to screen out perovskite candidates with higher Curie temperature than those of training dataset
collected from references, efficiently. Material data mining tasks can be implemented via the OCPMDM, which
provides powerful tools for material researchers in machine learning-assisted materials design and optimization.

Measuring web service security in the era of Internet of Things
اندازه گیری امنیت سرویس وب در عصر اینترنت اشیاء -2017 Technologies such as Internet of Things allow small devices to offer web-based services in
an open and dynamic networking environments on a massive scale. End users or service
consumers face a hard decision over which service to choose among the available ones, as
security holds a key in the decision making process. In this paper a base linguistic evalua
tion set is designed, based on which all the other fuzzy term sets that used for describing
security attributes are uniformed and integrated for calculating an overall security value
of the services. This work, to the best of our knowledge, is the first practical solution to
offer direct comparisons and rankings of network services based on multiple security at
tributes such as confidentiality, availability, privacy and accountability. We analysed four
major cloud service platforms to illustrate the proposed approach.

Running climate model on a commercial cloud computing environment: A case study using Community Earth System Model (CESM) on Amazon AWS

performance computing (HPC) resources. This study investigates an alternative to the usual approach, i.e.
carrying out climate model simulations on commercially available cloud computing environment. We test the
performance and reliability of running the CESM (Community Earth System Model), a flagship climate model in
the United States developed by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), on Amazon Web Service
(AWS) EC2, the cloud computing environment by Amazon.com, Inc. StarCluster is used to create virtual
computing cluster on the AWS EC2 for the CESM simulations. The wall-clock time for one year of CESM
simulation on the AWS EC2 virtual cluster is comparable to the time spent for the same simulation on a local
dedicated high-performance computing cluster with InfiniBand connections. The CESM simulation can be
efficiently scaled with the number of CPU cores on the AWS EC2 virtual cluster environment up to 64 cores. For
the standard configuration of the CESM at a spatial resolution of 1.9° latitude by 2.5° longitude, increasing the
number of cores from 16 to 64 reduces the wall-clock running time by more than 50% and the scaling is nearly
linear. Beyond 64 cores, the communication latency starts to outweigh the benefit of distributed computing and
the parallel speedup becomes nearly unchanged.

Smart Energy Utilities based on Real-Time GIS Web Services and Internet of Things
ابزارهای انرژِی هوشمند مبتنی بر وب سرویس GIS در زمان واقعی و اینترنت اشیاء -2017 Problem: The power & electric outages cause business disruptions that result in economic impacts to cities. A web map service
(WMS), as a RESTful API with URL, that makes real-time information of power outage and economic loss estimation accessible
and available across the web would be valuable and important for decision makers in smart cities and smart energy utility.
Objective: This paper presents a web-based system that is capable of creating real-time WMS. Our system enables geo-enabled
applications (such as web mapping, mobile GIS app, operations dashboard) to access, query, and display a web map of real-time
outage status and economic loss information associated with outages in the county scale.
Method: Our method is based on the Internet of Things (IoT), web services, GIS web services, web mapping, and web GIS
(Geographic Information Systems). To implement our system, we used esri ArcGIS for Server, SQL Server Spatial, Amazon Web
Services, and C#.NET. The system architecture consists of autonomous computer program, spatial database, GIS Server, cloud
computing platform, a WMS, web feature service (WFS). Our insight is in real-time by continuously 1) connecting to web sensors
and collecting outage data, 2) connecting to web services for calculating economics loss associated with outages, 4) manipulating
(modify, insert, delete) our spatial database over the Internet, 4) publishing a real-time WMS.
Result: The system implementation resulted in a back-end server that includes /serves a real-time WMS. A data record includes:
name of county, name of state that contains this county, total number of costumers located within the county, total number of
costumers without electricity who are located into the county, and total economic losses (modeled as total jobs loss, total GDP loss,
and total cost in $) caused by outages for the county.
Findings: Real-time WMS created by our system can be used by applications to display and query a web map of electric outage
status and their macroeconomic loss in real-time. They provide a decision support tool for disaster emergency management in
the energy sector by aiding in prioritization of restoration operations and recovery phase in electric utilities in order to reduce
the economic impact of outages. Our system provides an important platform for smart cities, real-time GIS, Internet on Things,
map-based crowdsourcing applications, real-time intelligent systems, and for real-time monitoring and analytical applications.
