Integrated management systems as a key facilitator of occupational health and safety risk management: A case study in a medium sized waste management firm
سیستم های مدیریت یکپارچه به عنوان تسهیل کننده اصلی مدیریت خطر و ایمنی شغلی: مطالعه موردی در یک شرکت مدیریت پسماند با اندازه متوسط-2020 The positive impact of introducing Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards at the organization level is recognized by governments, employers and workers. Nevertheless, the knowledge on its effective use in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises is still limited. This case study aims to provide a better understanding of how the implementation of Integrated Management Systems (IMSs) influences the improvement of OH&S risk management process in medium-sized business. Particular attention was given to employees’ awareness about risk management effectiveness. The study was conducted in a company working in the area of solid waste treatment certified in 2009 with an IMSs for Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety. The evolution of accidents before and after the implementation of the IMSs was analyzed and a questionnaire was used to capture the perceptions of the technicians on the risk management system. The questionnaire was answered by 16 technicians of the company from different departments and in a second phase were conducted interviews with the Chief Executive Officer and the Technician responsible for the Management System. Finally, it was proved that there was an improvement in the record of occupational accidents and that the IMSs brought a greater involvement of workers in risk management activities, but their participation has not yet reached the desired level.© 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Integrated water, waste and energy management systems : A case study from Curauma, Chile
سیستم های مدیریت یکپارچه آب ، زباله و انرژی: یک مطالعه موردی از Curauma ، شیلی-2020 The demand for energy and water by urban populations will increase in the next few decades, mainly due to
migration of people. Enhanced living standards will also increase the demand for both resources. As both energy
supply and water are limited, efficient use is a sine qua non for any future development of cities. This study
elaborates the resource and environmental impacts of implementing an integrated water, waste and energy
management system, using the medium-sized but rapidly growing settlement of Curauma, Chile, as a case study.
The Integrated System is designed by separating wastewater at the source and mixing blackwater with organic
municipal solid waste to generate electricity and heat by fermentation. By recycling greywater the demand for
drinking water can be reduced. The analysed Integrated System could raise the share of renewables in the energy
mix up to by 19% (electricity) and 51% (heat), and save fresh water resources by 30%. The depletion potential of
the Integrated System regarding water, fossil and metal resources is notably lower (up to 52%) compared to the
Conventional System. The same is true with respect to Climate Change, Freshwater Ecotoxicity, Freshwater
Eutrophication and Human Toxicity: up to 45%. The impacts of the Integrated System related to Terrestrial
Acidification are up to 174% higher due to emissions in the anaerobic digestion process, and heat and power
generation with biogas. Keywords: Water-energy nexus | Urban wastewater system | Organic municipal solid waste | Anaerobic digestion | Environmental assessment |

Lean Integrated Management Systems in MSME Reasons, Advantages and Barriers on Implementation
سیستم های مدیریت یکپارچه در MSME دلایل، مزایا و موانع در پیاده سازی-2017 MSMEs have been globally considered as an engine of economic growth and as key instruments for promoting equitable
development. The organization with the help of the lean integrated management system will be able to attain the quality
objectives and targets with the lesser paperwork, simpler integrated system requirements and also the better hygienic conditions
and environment friendly waste disposal practices. 5 S coupled with safety now becomes 6S.The implementation of 6S with
Integrated EHS management system will lead to safer working conditions with increased productivity and building the image of
MSMEs to customers. Basic concept on lean integrated management system (IMS) into MSMEs and analysis on reasons,
advantages and barriers at lean IMS implementation are presented in this paper.
