1 Developing entrepreneurial competences in biotechnology early career researchers to support long-term entrepreneurial career outcomes

This paper explores how early career biotechnology researchers develop entrepreneurial competences through participation in a bespoke entrepreneurship education competition and whether this affects their longer-term entrepreneurial actions. Specifically, we discuss the pedagogy and evaluate the short- and long-term impact of a long-running entrepreneurship competition, where biotechnology doctoral and postdoctoral researchers address societal and environmental challenges through hypothetical new venture creation. We present evidence regarding the efficacy of this experiential education, where online mentoring is blended with a team-based residential competition utilising inspirational speakers, practitioner support and peer learning in encouraging ECRs to consider commercialising their research. We conclude that long-term entrepreneurial career outcomes can be fostered through tailored short-term interventions.

2 Socialization of business students in ethical issues: The role of individuals’ attitude and institutional factors
Socialization of business students in ethical issues_ The role of individuals’ attitude and institutional factors-2020
This study focuses on the socialization of business students on ethical issues. To this end, we explore personal and institutional factors that influence the acquisition of business ethics com- petences. Drawing on the case of the European higher education framework, we analyse data from questionnaires about the experience of 599 undergraduates studying Business Management at a European university. The results show that a favourable attitude of business students towards ethics competences has a positive effect on their acquisition of such competences. Moreover, the study reveals that favourable perceptions of the teachers ethical leadership and the Universitys ethical climate are relevant institutional factors in the effective acquisition of business ethics competences. The findings also reveal that the Universitys ethical climate positively moderates the relationship between individuals attitude towards business ethics competences and their acquisition of such competences. This research sheds light on the need to study the influence of informal socialization mechanisms in business ethics competences development, in particular, the “hidden curricula” acquired via students perception of teachers ethical leadership and university ethical values.

3 A conceptual model of entrepreneurial competencies and their impacts on rural youths intention to launch SMEs

The present research aimed to first specify entrepreneurial competencies required for launching small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) among rural youth. Then, weights were assigned to the components by key experts of rural entrepreneurship using a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. Finally, the impact of entrepreneurial competencies was assessed on rural youths intention to launch SMEs. The research population in the survey part was composed of the rural youth of Kangavar County in Kermanshah province, Iran (N = 6207). The sample size was estimated to be 361 individuals who were taken by the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire whose face and content validity was confirmed by a panel of experts and its reliability was confirmed through a pilot study. Pairwise comparisons by experts showed that strategic, communicative, psychological and opportunistic competences were the most to least important factors underpinning the rural youths intention to establish SMEs. Also, among entrepreneurial competencies, five components including entrepreneurial vigilance, networking ability, individualism, tolerance of ambiguity, and market analysis accounted for 39.2 percent of the variance of the rural youths intention to launch SMEs. It is recommended to empower rural youth in capabilities such as planning to initiate a business and the analysis of markets in order to strengthen their strategic competencies.

4 Building integration skills in supply chain and operations management study programs

The modern business world requires, in addition to substance knowledge, an extensive set of more practical and generic skills from engineering graduates. Supply Chain and Operations Management (SCM/OM) experts often work as business process developers. This requires skills related to for example cross-functional coordination and the ability to comprehend the big picture and dynamics of supply chains and operation environments. Sharing experiences of generic skill descriptions and teaching methods would facilitate the translation of generic skills into different engineering education disciplines. The aim of the paper is to present a way of describing and categorizing the focal SCM/OM generic skills and to analyze how the skills can be adopted and implemented in SCM/OM study programs. The paper is based on an empirical case analysis of a SCM/OM study program. The main generic skills related to the SCM/OM discipline are described and categorized into two skill areas: the ability to design feasible improvement solutions and the ability to carry out improvement work in organizational networks. These described skill-sets are named integration skills. Teaching integration skills in SCM/OM study programs should be fully integrated with the teaching of substance knowledge, and integration skills should be developed progressively in stages throughout the studies using activating teaching methods. In teaching integration skills, the recognized and analyzed pedagogical methods are the use of increasingly challenging real-life assignments and empowering working processes for students. A combination of the methods in teaching sets gradually increasing requirements for students in learning both integration skills and substance knowledge.

5 Entrepreneurship education: Time for a change in research direction?

Entrepreneurship education has blossomed as an area of research due to its practical significance and role in expediting the economic wellbeing of the global economy. Despite its popularity there is still some way to go before we fully understand the nature and ability of entrepreneurship education to transform society. The goal of this article is to highlight the current trends in entrepreneurship education by providing some paths for future research that take an an thropcosmic view of education. This will help more researchers embrace the distinctive nature of entrepreneurship by tying it to new emerging employment trends such as the gig economy and the digital transformation of the workplace. Suggestions for how entrepreneurship education needs to further progress are given as a way of shaping the future development of the field.

6 Model of Teachable Entrepreneurship Competencies (M-TEC): Scale development

Purpose: In this paper, literature regarding the definition and classification of entrepreneurship competencies is revised and areas of improvement are identified. Based on this literature review, the paper proposes the theoretical Model of Teachable Entrepreneurship Competencies (M-TEC) that is also tested empirically.
Design/methodology/approach: Data is collected from 562 college students enrolled in an entrepreneurship course to test the multi-item and multi-dimensional scale developed to measure the M-TEC in this paper. The scale is tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM).
Findings: The scale consists of 38 items related to nine types of competencies classified in four dimensions: entrepreneurship, management and business, human resources and interpersonal competencies. The empirical findings of the study demonstrate the reliability and validity of the new measurement scale for the global sample, and when it is tested for male and female students independently. The findings also corroborate the adequacy of the scale to be included in causal research. Originality/value: Although research on entrepreneurship competencies has notably increased in recent years, the definition and measurement of the concept still concern researchers and practitioners. To close this gap in literature, we focus on the identification, definition and measurement of the entrepreneurship competencies that can be specifically developed through formal education and training.

7 Social entrepreneurship and organizational performance: A study of the mediating role of distinctive competencies in marketing

Social economy is considered as the option that offers the best response in times of crisis. In this context, social economy companies play an essential role in the promotion of sustainable growth. This research wants to present the importance of social entrepreneurship in the organizational performance of a company. It also aims to show the positive relationship between the extent to which social entrepreneurship is implemented and the creation of distinctive marketing competences, as well as the mediating role these competences have between social entrepreneurship and organizational performance. For this purpose, an analysis of 221 Spanish social-economic entities has been developed from January to May 2014. In order to evaluate organizational performance, a validated scale has been used (Nakata, 2008), since it integrates sociometric characteristics that are necessary for this research. For the two remaining constructs, that is to say, social entrepreneurship and distinctive marketing competences, specific items have been developed by taking into consideration the analysis of their sociometric properties that could lead to the validation of the relationship among the three proposed variables. The results show a positive relationship between the extent to which an organization introduces social entrepreneurship and its organizational performance, social entrepreneurship and the creation of distinctive marketing competences, as well as the influence of distinctive marketing competences as a mediating variable in the relationship between the degree of implementation of social entrepreneurship and organizational performance.

8 Nepotism, employees’ competencies and firm performance in the tourism sector: A dual multivariate and Qualitative Comparative Analysis approach

The paper identifies the critical competencies affecting Egyptian travel agents performance while assessing the negative influence of nepotism on such competencies. To address this aim, the study uses a holistic dual approach employing a multivariate technique using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) and a configuration method through a fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). Based on a sample of 500 travel agents employees, the results show that: (1) none of the competencies is sufficient to drive travel agents’ performance, (2) two distinct configurations of employee competencies are likely to result in high performance, and (3) nepotism has a direct negative influence on some of these competencies. The study holds important implications for both theory and practice.

9 Knowledge management processes and sustainable competitive advantage: An empirical examination in private universities

In modern times, it has come to the realization of organizations that acquiring knowledge and using it in an effective manner is the only way to have a sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) in the marketplace. This means that the resources of an organization must include knowledge, which should always be cared for and developed upon. When it comes to private colleges and universities, these are really just investments for the future businesspeople of the world. Through knowledge management processes (KMP), the knowledge they end up processing from these educational institutions will help them decide the direction in which they go in the future and how competitive they will be in the business world. But when it comes to knowledge-based view (KBV) and resource-based view (RBV), there is no clear explanation between them and how much the compe titive advantage that KMP provides can be sustained. In this study, we will look at how and why SCA can be created by KMP from the educational environments KBV and RBV. In order to achieve the objective, a hy pothesis was created along with a quantitative survey method of design. The initiation of the structural equation modelling (SEM) method helped determine the relationship between the study variables through deductive approach. The respondents of this study are comprised of 525 academic leaders with varying positions from 44 private Iraqi universities. The results show a significant relationship between KMP and SCA. To attain a better SCA, private universities must generate knowledge, store knowledge, share knowledge and apply knowledge that is backed by identify of knowledge and formulating of its goals throughout every aspect of the organization. The research adds to the active group of knowledge that is currently available in the area of strategic knowledge management.

10 Religious tourism and spiritual leadership development: Christian leadership conferences

Christian leadership conferences are an increasingly relevant form of special events for leaders within ministry roles. Despite considerable anecdotal research, it is largely unknown what intrinsically motivates these leaders to attend a Christian leadership conference and if this motivation/s is homogenous. Through employing spiritual leadership and core competencies to identify intrinsic motivations to attend a Christian leadership conference, five segments are conceptualised. Whilst two motivations that mirror the key event theme and manifest the internal reward for most respondents, the segments differ significantly on key criterion, most notably their usual place of residence. Tourism and event academics and practitioners should carefully use the research findings when seeking to develop theory or attract attendees to Christian leadership conferences.
