The impact of social power and influence on the implementation of innovation strategies: A case study of a UK mega infrastructure construction project

the context of megaprojects. This research intended to fill this knowledge gap by identifying and
describing the influence strategies that a strategic project manager applies when implementing innovation
strategies on megaprojects. A qualitative case study was used to examine the complex social
processes involved in a major UK capital investment programme. The findings underline a critical subset
of influence strategies, notably higher-management support, inspirational appeal and bargaining. The

A heuristic buffer sizing algorithm for implementing a renewable energy project

projects makes it more probable that projects will face delay. This research aims to introduce a heuristic algorithm
to determine the sizes of project buffer and feeding buffers as well as dynamically control buffer consumption,
named as Fuzzy Overlapping Buffer Management Algorithm (FOBMA). In this paper, the pentagonal
fuzzy numbers were used to determine the appropriate amount of project activity resources. Also, an overlapping
method was applied to obtain more realist activity durations. The FOBMA algorithm was compared to other
algorithms using the data of 15 real-world wind farm projects as well as 15 randomly generated numerical
examples. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis was conducted to validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
The findings demonstrate that the proposed FOBMA algorithm outperforms the other algorithms and

Discrete symbiotic organisms search method for solving large-scale time-cost trade-off problem in construction scheduling
روش جستجوی ارگانیسم های همزیستی گسسته برای حل مسئله تجارت هزینه زمان در مقیاس بزرگ زمانبندی ساخت-2020 Construction projects are becoming increasingly larger and more complex in terms of size and cost. An optimization tool is necessary for the construction management system to develop the desired construc- tion schedule to save time and cost. However, only a few effort s have been made to deal with the time-cost trade-offproblem (TCTP) in the large-scale construction projects, and the existing optimiza- tion methods are slightly limited by the trouble of parameter tuning. As TCTP is known to be an NP-hard problem, this paper aims to introduce a new variant of Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) algorithm that does not contain control parameters, called DSOS (Discrete Symbiotic Organisms Search) which gener- ates the parasite organism using a heuristic rule based on the network levels. This enhancement helps to improve the exploration phase and avoid premature stagnation. Performances are evaluated on project instances with different numbers of activities varying from 180 to 6300, as well as nine newly gener- ated project instances with 720 activities but different network structures. The obtained results show a good performance of DSOS in terms of robustness and deviation from optimum in comparison with other meta-heuristics and variants of DSOS without using the heuristic rule. The good performance implies that DSOS is sufficient to serve as an effective tool to generate an optimized construction schedule. Environmental impact assessment of water-saving irrigation systems across 60 irrigation construction projects in northern China
ارزیابی اثرات زیست محیطی سیستم های آبیاری صرفه جویی در آب در 60 پروژه ساخت و ساز آبیاری در شمال چین-2020 With increasing water shortages partly due to increasing demands, water has become a globally relevant
issue especially in arid and semi-arid regions. Water-saving irrigation technologies provide new ways for
improving the efficiency of water use for agricultural production. Although efficient irrigation management
could lead to water savings and increased yields, the water consumption and greenhouse gas
emissions during the construction of irrigation projects also puts pressure on environmental health.
However, little research has considered the environmental impact of the construction process and materials.
To fill this gap, the water footprint (WF) and carbon footprint (CF) of irrigation projects were
calculated using life cycle assessment (LCA) methods. The results for sixty typical irrigation projects in
northern China showed that the WF accounted for only 0.2e1.5% of the total agricultural WF and 2.3
e8.8% of the water saved. When the WF to construct modern irrigation systems is not considered, the
water-saving effects of these systems are generally overestimated by 13%. The CF for irrigation projects
was 42.0% of all agricultural activities. Due to the difficulty to obtain detailed information for irrigation
projects, this paper established the relationship between financial investment or area and CF for three
kinds of irrigation projects. It provided a simple quantitative method for assessing its environmental
impacts. By comparing environmental impacts and production benefits under different scenarios, using
drip irrigation over the long-term could increase crop yield and reduce water footprint, but carbon
footprint was increased at the same time. This study suggests that it is necessary to assess the environmental
impacts of irrigation construction projects from a life cycle perspective rather focusing only on

Analyzing green building project risk interdependencies using Interpretive Structural Modeling

owing to numerous benefits of green practices for sustainable development. However, existing research
efforts on GB project risk management are very limited, and no prior in-depth research has focused on
studying the risk interdependencies in GB projects from the perspectives of both the project life cycle
and multiple project risks. This paper begins by identifying and distinguishing GB project constraints
from multiple GB project risks using a systematic literature review and then investigates, based on the
Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) method, the risk interdependencies taking into account the
identified 16 constraint factors, 22 risk factors and 11 objectives throughout a GB project life cycle. The
importance of constraints and risk factors associated with GB project objectives was calculated based on
the influence transmission through network paths in the established ISM-based model. In addition, the

A novel approach for occupational health and safety and environment risk assessment for nuclear power plant construction project

safety and environment (OHSE) risks, and it is necessary to propose an approach for the OHSE risk
assessment so as to prevent the OHSE accidents or reduce their outcomes. However, there has not been
such an approach due to the high uncertainty and complexity of NPP construction project. Therefore, this
paper proposed a novel approach for the OHSE risk assessment which includes systematically identifying
the OHSE risks by using brainstorming method, establishing an OHSE risk assessment index system by
using Delphi method, and formulating a mathematical model by combining set pair analysis (SPA),
trapezoidal fuzzy number (TPFN), and set-valued statistics (SVS) methods for determining the overall
OHSE risk level for NPP construction project. The approach was used to assess the OHSE risks for the NPP
construction project in East China, and its overall OHSE risk level was assessed at level 2 (low OHSE risk
level). In addition, the problems in the OHSE risk management were found, and the corresponding OHSE
risk treatments for these problems were implemented. The results showed that the approach helped

Knowledge dynamics-integrated map as a blueprint for system development: Applications to safety risk management in Wuhan metro project

projects due to the inherent uncertainty in geotechnical conditions and the complexity of the tunnel construction
process. Literatures and practices highlight the importance of safety knowledge to the construction safety.
However, safety knowledge is not always provided in a convenient and timely manner. This paper develops a
Knowledge-dynamics Integrated Map (KIM) to visualize safety knowledge flow in tunnel construction safety risk
management. The KIM highlights the what, the who, and the why of knowledge flow by portraying its dynamics
associated to the working processes. With the use of KIM, the safety knowledge flow barriers are identified so
that knowledge flow facilitators can be designed. The KIM has been applied in Wuhan metro project as a
blueprint for systematically developing effective safety knowledge management systems.

Early-warning performance monitoring system (EPMS) using the business information of a project
سیستم هشدار قبلی نظارت بر عملکرد با استفاده از اطلاعات تجاری یک پروژه-2018 An early-warning performance monitoring system (EPMS) is proposed to objectively measure and monitor the performance of a project for early detection of inherent poor performance problems. The EPMS is built based on project progress data and consists of a database of business information, an optimized theoretical model used as a performance measurement baseline, and an index for monitoring and forecasting the performance. By monitoring the performance through an application of the EPMS to the Korean construction project, the quarterly variation of index was found to differ by project type. These results could explain the environmental changes in the project execution. Therefore, the EPMS is expected to be an alternative for objective performance monitoring and forecasting while applying the existing methods is difficult because of the limited available data on performance indicators. The development procedures may also be useful to researchers interested in approaches to quantitatively analyze trends in various industries.
